Today is Govatsa Dwadashi first day of Diwali

In Maharashtra Diwali starts with GoVatsa Dwadashi
GO means Cow & Vatsa means Calf
The day is celebrated to show gratitude towards Cow's
Cows and calves are worshiped on this day
Incase someone does not find any cow or calf around the house, then the worshipping in done by making an idol of cow with mud
Lord Krishna was fond of cows. It is believed that all the gods and goddesses reside a cow. The items/products made of milk such as cottage cheese, kheer, curd etc are used in havana and puja...

Govatsa Dwadashi is the day to worship the cow along with her calf.
The cow, who is sattva-predominant, nourishes the society with her milk and lends fertility to the soil with the manure of her dung, is worthy of worship everywhere. The Hindus call the cow as Mother with gratitude. Where there is protection and nurture of cow, the person, society and nation do not lack in prosperity
According to Shaka Samvat the day of Ashwin Krishna Dwadashi and according to Vikram Samvat, Kartik Krishna Dwadashi is called Govatsa Dwadashi

Spiritual importance of Govatsa Dwadashi:

Protection of environment from the instability generated during the period of Deepavali !

Expressing gratitude towards the cow Kamadhenu from the subtle Vishnu region: On Govatsa Dwadashi, the Absolute Water Principle-dominant frequencies of Shri Vishnu from the subtle Vishnu region are carried to the Universe by a cow called Kamadhenu from that region.

To express gratitude towards her, a cow is worshipped on this day.

The worship of cow teaches us to view Divine Principle in every animate and inanimate object.
