So the past few weeks I've been reading the various threads that talk about the serial and how Ekta Kapoor depicts the different story lines and what the reactions of the members of this forum are and all I have to say is GIVE IT A REST!
First off, how many people in this forum are a producer/director that they can speak with such confidence as to how a soap should be depicted or how a story line should be shaped? I mean seriously, you guys act like you're in show business and know exactly what it takes to make a show successful.
Secondly, do you guys have any idea how hard it must be to keep the TRP's of a show staying strong, even after the show has been on air for almost a decade? I dont think so.
Thirdly, there has been a major uproar about KT's rape. Although I agree that rape is not a social case that one should depict so vulgarly in a serial. But, lets not forget, that we live in a society where a woman who has been raped is mocked by all, and is told to keep quiet for the sake of her family.
Ekta's serials have brought out many different socially taboo subjects and has made society more cognizant of it. The rape of Mukti, in the serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki, was not depicted because Ekta wanted to boost the TRP and viewing of her shows. Rather, it was portrayed and bought into the storyline to let society know that a woman has the right to defend herself against any wrongdoings that has been forced upon her in masoginistic society that forces women to submissive, ashamed, and think that the rape was her fault. (Btw, i should let you guys know, that i am a male and i can still say all of this)
Ekta, in my opinion, is a genius and has proven that she is a very savvy business woman. Even after 7 years of KSBKBT on air, the TRP of the show are still high, and everyone still watches it. Yes her story lines are at some times very unrealistic, but it's a TV show, it's not meant to portray the idiosyncracies and monotony of every day life. Rather it is meant to take you away from your own problems and show you, look there are others that are worse off then you.
Lastly, lets not forget, that although you mock her mercilessly, you ALL STILL WATCH HER SHOWS! So unless you can say with pride that you have produced and written a successful serial, I think you should all keep your mouth-shut and just let her do her job.
