KHUSHI

I woke up with a thud! I looked around and realised that I was on the floor. How did I end up sleeping on the sofa? The last night's events came flooding to my mind. Arnav had a wonderful match and bagged the man of the series award. I was so proud of him, still was missing him. OMG! I slept while I was talking to him over the phone. That had happened the previous time also.

Twice in a month's time, what will he think of me?' I thought to myself.

Days became weeks, but were determined not to become months. Arnav had a one and a half month long tour, as they were to play two tests after the tri-series, which India won comfortably.

While I was absorbed in my thoughts I heard Anya speak.

"Khush, if you are awake attend the call." That was when I noticed that it was ringing.

Not Arnav I prayed before looking at the caller ID.

I breathed in relief when I saw Samar flashing on the screen.

"Hey Sam"

"Hi sister, how are you?"

"I am absolutely fine, tell me where you were?"

"Well, I had to leave urgently to Australia for some official work, now I am back, home."

"Australia? Did you meet..." before I could finish my question he answered.

"Yeah I did meet Niveda."

"I was about to ask you whether you met Mr. Tony Abott?" I said with a smile.

"Oh him? He came in to receive me from the airport and dropped me at Niveda and Liam's house personally." He played along.

" Yeah, I remember seeing the Australian Prime Minister with you in the news." I finished.

I heard him laugh and it took him a few minutes to stop.

"Okay, jokes apart, did you really meet them?"

"Yup, I did. You know after telling you all everything, I am over her now."

"Well, that is great news. So do I get a sister in law anytime soon?"

"Yeah, I'll tell Arnav to marry you soon and you will surely get one."

"I asked for a wife for my brother, not a husband and his sister."

"So you don't want to get married to Arnav?" He asked in mock horror.

"Nope, I want to get married to him. Speaking of Arnav, did you tell him that you went to meet Nivi? I don't remember him saying anything about that."

"Do you really think he would call me in between the tour? Never. He used to call Nivi, but his calls are diverted to you these days, I think."

"He did call me. I think about ten or twelve times. He doesn't get enough time and when he has that, the network problems arises. We tried skyping a few times too."

"I tried to call him a few times but was unreachable."

"I'll tell him when he calls. I'm expecting a call tonight."

"Speaking of the night let me tell you why I called."

"Why?"

"Have some patience sis, what are you and Anya doing tonight?"

"Nothing much, missing our boyfriends aka your best friends. Anya stays with me these days."

"Okay then, be ready by eight. Tonight your brother will take you both out for dinner."

"Why? What is the occasion?"

"I got promoted."

"Again?"

"Yup, after the Australian trip. I got a call yesterday."

"Congratulations bro, we'll be ready. What about the others? Don't they get a treat?"

"I guess NO would do. They never called me after leaving India. I am taking Rishabh's mom out for lunch today. She told me that Rishabh did not even call her once. She is the only mother left for us."

"Yeah, I can understand."

"Keep on understanding Khush, you will be late for work today." Anya said coming out after a shower.

"Oh no, Sam talk to her. I have to go get ready."

"Okay" I heard Sam say.

"Congratulate him, he got promoted." I said to Anya while handing over my phone to her.

I had a quick shower and got dressed in my black and white office dress. Anya had already made breakfast and I helped myself to it.

"Yummy parathas." I said to Anya as she kept my phone on the table.

"I am on a half day leave today. Shopping with my mother in law."

"So where are you guys meeting?"

"Sam just told me that he would drop her off at my office."

"Okay."

"Sam is a great guy isn't he?"

"Yeah, totally agree. I really hope that someone comes in his life soon." I said taking a bite from my paratha.

"Yeah right."

"See you later Anya, I'll leave now or else I will be late for work."

"Bye. I am leaving soon too. Take care."

"You too." I shouted as I opened the door of my car.

"Good morning Mr. Sharma." I said.

I was in his cabin because his secretary had told me that he wanted to meet me as soon as I came in.

"Good morning Khushi. How are you today?"

"I am good sir, thanks for asking."

"You are welcome my kid. Do you have any idea on why I called you here?"

"No sir."

"Well then, I called you to say that there is a happy news awaiting you." He said with a smile.

"And what would that be sir?" I asked curiously.

"Find it out yourself." He said.

"What? That is not fair sir. You just cannot do that. If you did not want to tell me then you should not have asked me to come up."

"Patience child, patience. That is what you need to have."

"But sir..."

"No buts Khushi."

"Sir..."

"No more arguments." He said and dismissed me with a wave of his hand.

Oh my, that was just too rude. Why did he have to say that? What did he mean by Find it out yourself'?

What else Khush, he might have meant that it was for you to find out.' I told myself as I walked to my cabin.

"I am sorry." I said as I crashed with Rachel on the way.

"It is okay. I will go now. I have to get this signed by Mr. Sharma before I leave."

"Before you leave?" I asked her.

"Yeah, I have been transferred to the Kolkata office."

"What? But why? How come I did not know?"

"Actually, I had requested a transfer and everything happened so fast. I got my mail yesterday night and today I am here."

"Oh, then who will be handling your section here? Elections are coming up and we need people like you here."

"I know, but my replacement will handle everything perfectly." She assured me.

"Who?"

"Find it out yourself."

"What? You too?" She winked as she left me there, wondering.

As I was about to enter my cabin, I saw a crowd on the ground floor.

What was happening there?' I wondered as I walked down.

"Hey guys, what is happening there?" I asked as I reached them.

"See." Tina, an intern replied and they all moved so that I could see what was happening.

"Ria!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah Ria."I heard from behind me.

I turned around to face Karan.

"Karan?"

"We are back." Ria said hugging me from behind.

"How come you both are here? Is there any special work assigned?"

"Nope darling, we are here to stay. We go transferred."

"Back here?" I could not believe that.

"Absolutely dear, now don't ask us how. We do not know. It just happened."

"I mean in a few months?" I could not stop myself from questioning."

"Well, it is okay if you don't want us to be around." He said and I glared at her before engulfing her in a long hug.

"Can I join too?" Karan asked and we nodded a Yes.

"One more news, we are your new neighbours." She said coming out of the hug.

I just stood there with a smile on my face

"What?" she asked me.

"Nothing, just that Life is full of surprises."

"Absolutely. So dinner tonight..." I cut her off before she could invite me for dinner.

"No dear, you guys just came in and...:

"Well I am not inviting you to dinner. I was inviting us to yours for dinner." She said pointing at Karan and her.

"Oh, I got you wrong darling. Still dinner tonight is not possible."

"Why? That boyfriend of yours is also not in town then?"

"Samar is taking his sisters out for dinner."

"Oh, in that case we would invite ourselves to one of our parent's place."

"Yeah, they too would be surprised." Karan said.

"Enough of the re-union guys, get back to work. Khushi, I want you in my cabin now." I heard Mr. Sharma say as he came out of his cabin. The crowd dispersed very soon at the sight of him.

"I'll be back soon." I said to Ria before leaving.

Mr. Sharma gave me enough work to keep me busy for the day. The day passed very well and soon it was time to leave the office.

"So from tomorrow we can ride together right?" Ria asked me happily.

"Yeah, it is okay with me if you guys don't want any privacy."

"Oh come on Khush, have you ever felt like the third wheel when you were with us? Dont answer if the answer is yes." She said.

"No darling, the answer is an absolute NO." I said stressing on the last two letters.

"So, it is decided then." Karan said as we walked to the parking lot.

"How is that boyfriend of yours?"

"Doing as well as he can be without me."

"You are missing him very much."

"Right."

"Do not worry. You will soon get bored of him once you get married." She said.

"Ouch, it hurts." Karan said faking pain in his heart.

"I was talking about them Karan, not us." Ria said to him.

"Well, thanks dear. Your words really did magic to my misery." I said sarcastically as I opened the door of my car.

"Okay guys, I'll go now. Anya might be waiting for me and Sam might be on his way. It is past seven and I am already late."

As I had expected Anya was waiting for me. She was already dressed in some casual jeans and so I went up to freshen up.

"You girls ready to go?" I heard Sam speak as I came down.

"When did you reach?"

"You would have known if you had not taken so much time to get ready." Anya said and I wondered what took me so long.

I wasn't even trying to look beautiful because Arnav was not there to compliment me. Maybe I lost track of time thinking about him.

"Shall we go?" I questioned and they both agreed and went out. I closed the doors before we left.

We went to a restaurant, not far away from the city, unlike the days Arnav and Rishabh our celebrity partners were with us. We tonight were normal people not surrounded by fan girls.

We had placed our orders and were waiting when Anya's phone rang.

"Really?" I heard her speak into the phone. She was smiling, but I was sure, that was not Rishabh. If it were him then she would by now be blushing hard. The next phone to ring was mine.

It was a call from mom.

"Hi mom." I said smiling.

"So you still do remember me?"

"Yeah mom." She was a little angry at me for not calling her all these days, so I decided to change the topic.

"Mom Ria and Karan are back here and today I realised how much I missed them. I miss you both too."

We talked about anything and everything. Mom brought Arnav up by saying that his score of 127 the previous day was brilliant.

I heard a beep in between and one glance at my watch told me that it could only be Arnav.

"Mom, I will call you later. Bye, love you."

"Love you too dear." she said before disconnecting the call.

"Hey lover boy" I said hoping that I fell asleep yesterday while talking to him.

"Hey baby, how are you?"

"Doing good"

"And where are you?"

"Out for dinner."

"Oh, when your line went engaged I tried your land phone."

"Oh, I am out with Sam and Anya."

"Sam is there? Don't tell him it is me"

"As if he won't understand."

"Right. I could not attend his or Nivi's calls."

"Yeah right. You know something? He called you from Australia. He visited your sister and brother in law while he was on official duty."

"Really?"

"Yeah really and you know what, he got promoted again, and now don't ask really. He is in front of me ready to attack you over the phone."

"Oh"

As I talked to him I noticed that Anya had left the table.

"Vihaan, Ria and Karan are back."

"It seems like many things are happening while Rishabh and I are out."

"Yeah right, and one more thing they are my new neighbours. They were very happy, such a cute couple you know, so in love.

"We can be like that too."

"What do you mean?"

"I meant what I said." He said and I blushed.

"Aww my sister is blushing." Sam said and I heard Arnav laugh.

"Stop it both of you." I said and at once Sam brought a finger to his lips.

"Khushi I am sorry. I am missing you so much and he is adding fuel to the fire."

"I miss you too."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Enough guys, now give the phone to me." Sam said and snatched my phone from me. He stood up and walked away leaving me alone as he talked to my boyfriend.

"Oh my, look who do we have here?" I heard my voice from behind me. I did not have to turn around to say who it was.

Arnav's dad came and stood in front of me. Along with him stood a young girl around my, no Arnav's age probably. She had confusion written all over her face. Soon I guessed her to be his new wife about whom Arnav had told me.

"My son's girlfriend with his best friend? Does he know?" he continued.

"Mr. Raizada..." I began but he cut me off.

"He might not. How can he? He is away in South Africa right?"

"Mr. Raizada, if Arnav was here tonight he would have been against me offering an explanation to you. Still let me tell you, Sam is a good friend and my Rakhi-Brother."

"Oh really?"

"You can believe her Mr. Raizada." Anya said. I did not notice her coming back.

"Who the hell are you to talk in between?"

"I am Anya, her cousin and Rishabh's fiance."

"So what. Remember girl I have told you before that my blood runs through my son's veins too. He will dump you soon if you don't dump him sooner."

"You better get out of here before I hit you." This time it was Sam.

"Oh you, I heard your mother is dead, well that cheap woman deserved to die."

Anya and I had to hold Sam back to prevent him from attacking.

"One more word and these two will not be able to stop me. Get lost." He said seething in anger.

"Oh come one darling, we are wasting time talking to these stupid friends of my useless son."

"I am sorry." Sam said.

"It was never your fault Sam." Anya said and I nodded.

"I will be back." Sam said and walked to the washroom.

"Who called you earlier?" I asked.

"It was Rishabh's mom first. You know finally after all these days he called her today. After that it was him. The call got disconnected and I came back and saw you talking to him."

"Have you met him before? I mean how did you know it was him?"

"I just heard you address him as Mr. Raizada and it was not hard to guess."

"Hey, Rishabh is calling again." Anya said walking away from me.

"Excuse me."

I heard a girl speak.

"Yes"

"Your boyfriend, he dropped his wallet while he crashed with me. I called for him, but he rushed to the washroom.

"My boyfriend?" I asked bewildered.

"Yeah, the guy who left the table just now."

"Oh Sam, he is my brother." I said taking the wallet from her. I saw a smile appear on her face but she covered it up quickly.

"Oh, I am so sorry."

"It is okay and thank you for this." I said pointing at the wallet.

"You are welcome."

"I am Khushi." I said offering my hand for her to shake.

"Nice to meet you Khushi, I am Gowri. Have I seen you somewhere before?" she asked me.

"Chances exist. I am a sports journalist and presenter."

"The one who interviewed Arnav Singh Raizada?"

"The very same." I said with a smile

That would be another one of his female fans Khushi, enjoy!' I said to myself.

"I am very sorry, I have seen that program only once and that too because it was ASR's interview."

"I can understand. What do you do?"

"oh, nothing much. I am a struggling writer."

"That is a similar profession."

"Yeah right. Hey, I have to go. It was nice meeting you."

"Same here and yeah, thanks again."

"Bye" she said and turned around to crash to Sam again.

"Sorry" he said.

I saw her scan Sam before she spoke.

"It is okay." She walked away quickly.

"What was she doing here?" He asked me as he took his seat.

"Well she was here to return this wallet of yours."

"Oh. I might have dropped it while I crashed into her earlier."

"She told me so."

The food arrived and so did Anya. I had noticed that a long set of events had happened while we were waiting for the food.

After dinner, Sam dropped us both home and made sure that we were safely inside before he left.

A lot of things had happened today and something that would not leave my mind was ... GOWRI
