"Excuse me? How dare they ask for Shahenshah's fort? Its his pride , its the property of Mughals and they have the audacity to demand it in dowry? That fort is Shahenshah's and Amer or us have no right over it. If they are so interested in getting that fort, tell them to draw swords, fight a war with my husband and get it. There is no way that fort will be given to them. I don't care who said what , all i know is that Shahenshah is a man of word and commitment. If he says he never promised the fort to them, it means he didn't. And what's wrong with everyone here? Shahenshah tried his best to fix Sukanya's marriage , he brought the most expensive gifts, came all the way here with us to attend the wedding. He wanted this wedding to happen with all his heart. And what word and commitment are you talking about? His commitment is as do-or-die as Rajputs, so don't even challenge that. All this is a big misunderstanding and its Shahenshah who is being cheated and betrayed. I don't know how this chaos has risen , but what I know for sure is that I trust my husband's word and for me , his truth is the only acceptable truth. I am with him on this and i am telling you clearly once again . That fort is his property and nobody should ask him for it. So, tell Sukanya's to-be-in-laws to back off."
-Jodha.
Yes, she fights with him. She delivers a ghrinaa lecture at least 5 times every week. She is unruly, wild, aggressive , outrageous , dense, judgmental , stubborn. She is no ideal 'princess' or 'queen' material. She does not follow the dark ages' rule book of how a wife , princess, queen is supposed to behave. ...She makes Jalaal's life an exciting purgatory everyday , is an ace tantrum queen with him, is a hard-to-get wild tigress who will jump into dariyaas but won't admit that she cannot take a single blow to Jalaal... But... all this is within four walls of their relationship , all the badminton matches that lead to all the judgment on her, happen just between the two of them.
And everytime a third party raises a finger at Jalaal, everytime Jalaal comes within inches of a hanging sword , Jodha rises to the occasion - protecting him with her life and her honour. We have seen this happen before. Jodha has shielded Jaalal against judgment and ridicule ( the aawaam bashing Jalaal for being a cruel husband ) , against death ( the tiger attack and her famous " hum aapko marne nahiin dengge) , against Bairam's little son's doubts ( of course, Shahenshah loves you) ... and she did the same today , outside the fighting rink of the four walls.
What makes Jodha's aggressive and confident defence of Jalaal more touching is that it was against her own family. No matter what Bharmal, Hyperwati or the brother gang were saying. Jodha stuck to her " Keep your hands and accusations off Jalaal" drums. She argued and gave bhaashans to her own family to protect Jalaal. To make it clear to her own blood as well that no matter how critical the current situation is, neither is my husband a liar and nor is that Durg going to those shame-on-the-name-of-Rajvanshis.And those 6-7 people in the room stood no chance against Jodha's defence of Jalaal. She was that rigid, assertive and possessive of Jalaal's honour and even his fort.
Its not because she loves him , even though i agree that she is falling for him. Its more to do with her faith and confidence in Jalaal that he maybe 'dhoort', 'chhicchora' , 'attyachaari', 'duraachaari' ... BUT... he is not a liar. She may say otherwise on his face but she knows that he has kept every single promise made to her.She has seen his warmth and happiness as a brother-in-law and guest at Amer. She has seen his imperial honour and his respect for his crown. Aur Jalaal ko taane maarne ka matlab ye nahiin ki Jodha ko Jalaal ke bright zones nahiin maalum. This is from where her confidence springs that Jalaal can do anything but he can never lie or go back on his commitment. Its this confidence that makes her tell her folks to back off and not even think of asking Jalaal for the fort.
Tomorrow, maybe considering how sensitive the situation is , Jodha may speak to Jalaal about giving the Durg once her fire of ' how -dare-they-accuse-Jalaal' cools down. But today, it was temperamental and confident surge of defensive protection for Jalaal.
One wishes that Jalaal should have seen this spectacle. She stood up for him, defended him , fought for him, chided her own family and loved ones. It was like... whatever happens between her Jalaal is a story of a locked room . But no third person gets away with raising a finger at Jalaal. She cares about you Jalaal. She cares very much. More than that , she honours the man that you are . But its just that... she is not going to say it , she is not going to admit it, because this anger , arrogance and pride that she displays in front of you is her last line of defence.
Today Jodha shredded 'Humein Amer ki chintaa hai' to thin ribbons. Poor you, Jalaal. Jo nazaara dekhne laayak tha, woh to aap miss kar baithe. Chudail aaj sacch mein Baaghin ban gayee thi and that too in your defence .
The next person i want to talk about is Maharana Pratap. KUDOS! And there are just two reasons for that :
1. Maharana Pratap did not raise a single finger of accusation and betrayal on Jalaal. He was not even angry at Jalaal for telling New Sasurji to get lost and almost calling off the wedding. Just , as he is known in history ,he felt like slapping New Sasurji for daring to make marriage a trade fair . He was angry at the right person.
2. He reinstated the true Rajput principles. If we want something , we get it by war , not begging and definitely not by selling our brides and grooms. Get lost and don't you dare expect me to support you on this. Have some iota of shame and take Sukanya to your estate as the new queen. Aise poore Rajpuatana ki naak kaat ke plate mein mat sajaao.
Hats off, Pratap! Ise kehte hain vintage Rajputana aan-baan-aur-shaan.
And how can you not be proud of Jalaal? He was REGAL. HONORABLE. A COMMITTED HUSBAND.
1. Whatever New Sasurji said in the Sabhaa today was cheap, lowly , sabzee mandee types, disgraceful and extremely humiliating. Especially for Jalaal and core Mughals. Ideally, both Jalaal and Pratap should have made tandoori rotis out of him. But Jalaal... he bore it all, quietly and with one final warning. And why? Because " Humne apnee Jodha Beghum se waada kiyaa tha" that come what may , he will not raise a sword here or create any scene. If you are alive right now, its because of my commitment to Jodha that i will not lose my temper. And THAT, BTW, includes beizzati of Daayan Angaa as well.đ
2. Jalaal's bent towards Jodha one side, Jalaal refused to give away the Durg , as Alakh had said. A symbol of political stability, victory , memories and a Mughal property. It was the sign of a non-conceding king - I didn't make any promise and I am not going to deliver what I never committed. I can find a good groom for Sukanya , again. Thanks.
Yes, Jalaal didn't think from Amer's POV or what heartbreak this will bring to Sukanya. But Jalaal is not the one to be swayed by emotion...YET. So, its in sync with his character and the ideal character sketch of a no nonsense emperor. That's that.
For the rest, its not clear who has sent what to Jodha exactly in that letter , but after reading it and having met Vijendra ( who wants to marry Sukanya ) , she is taking a big risk of going vulnerable and risky with Cheapuddin . Its scary and she may land in trouble , if not on Monday , then in the long run. But what makes you smile is her confidence that if she knows the truth, she can convince Shahenshah and he will listen to her.
All in all, a brilliant episode where you applaud Jalaal's authority, Jodha's defiance and Pratap's principles.
P.S- Chudail does not hate you, Jalaal. She really doesn't. And you absolutely know it. CONFESS! đ
