Jalal is not an inch less than a shehensha. The way he has handled things (post mc track) in Agra and amer is very shehensha-ish. His equation with jodha begum is personal. The fights, arguments and still the desire to see her are very personal. It has nothing do with his throne or his capabailities as a shehensha. Why he gives attention to a particular begum? how he wants to handle her? How he should behave with her? is for jalal to decide and not the shehensha. For a shehensha, there is no begum, no relative he is above all and all are his subjects. For a husband, he can use any strategy to handle his errant wife. He is always a shehensha when he needs to be. I salute him for that.
As for jodha I am gonna copy-paste my comment from a previous thread-
I have always found jodha's character very interesting. Contrary to common belief I find her very layered. She is not an epitome of sacrifice nor she is understanding all the time. In short she is human, very human. I do not understand why her words are always taken at the face value? She says "I don't care" doesn't mean she doesn't . Focussing on yesterday's interaction: it all started with jodha asking jalal to leave because his life is in danger. The moment jalal asked are you concerned? Pat came the reply "no". Didn't jalal do the same thing when he rescued her? The girl said let me die and pat came the reply "no, will not let you compromise sultanate's izzat". Not once he said forget sultanate 'I' don't want you to die. Does that mean he saved jodha only to restore the sultanate's izzat? Nothing can be far from truth than this.
Jodha from day one of her existence on this earth has been told and taught that "all invaders are enemy", "every invader will trample on your self respect and self esteem", "death before dishonour". Every day of her 17 years this woman has been hammered with such prejudices, how is she suppose to let go of them so easily? The next question arises why can't she? Can't she see jalal is so nice to her?precisely because of this It's all the more difficuilt for her. A sworn enemy being nice to her beyond normal. Why? Why me? Is he gonna hurt me where it hurts the most? I shall keep the pretence on. What if I bare my soul and he walks all over it? Am I strong enough to take such an enormous risk? Jalal has a ruqaiya, a Salima to turn to: jodha's world will crash to pieces if jalal doesn't turn out to be what her heart believes he is.
