Please note: Having seen today's episode, don't be too taken aback by the volteface from both JJ. Such jumps are usually indicative of a change in track or slight postponing of a track. In all logical probability , the recent hike in the ratings and the trend of ratings rise indicates that JJ's angst and their battle of wills , emotions and egos is being lapped up by the audience. Hence, no nursing , no truce "as such" - the melting point of JJ has been postponed and we are still at the boiling point. So, apnaa blood pressure upar neeche mut karo. And do not abuse the creatives and EK. Usually such decisions are from the channel aur gaaliyaan khaate hain bechaare lekhak. So, here on you assume that Jalaal has not forgiven Jodha for the tiger attack and that Jalaal ki badtameezi has made Jodha cheeni kum.😆
Onto the episode now , ppz.
" Jodha Beghum, tell me one thing , will you? How long does it take for the claw marks of a tiger to wear off? Am lucky, am i not? I mean, if a tigress ( Jodha) would have attacked me , i would have had my face permanently marked with claw marks, isn't it? Don't ask me , why am taking my troupe along . Its not that am doubting your family's ability to safeguard me. Its just that am worried about my protection from tigresses. Tigers i can handle, Beghum, but what about tigresses like you? You are no less than a tigress - your cannonball temper, your sword like words and your glittering sharp eyes. And as for what punishment i should be giving you for sending me to the lunch buffet of that tiger, well, let me think. There will be a million opportunities in Amer. Wow! I can make you do so much running around and you will have to do it - you'll have to take special care of me and do what i want. Can you imagine how elated i am by the very thought of the same? Infact, i am planning to have my entire food menu in Amer cooked by your hands - I have fallen in love with spices and am so used to them that no matter what cauldrons of chillies you put in my food , i can swallow them without batting an eye-lid. What say? "
-Jalaal.
And Jodha storms out of the Khwaabgah with a " What the Faaluda ki Dukaan" expression on her face while Jalaal, chuckles at his image in the mirror. Only to look at the bowl of the herbal paste and chide himself - " Silly you, Jalaal! It was such a golden chance to have Jodha's hands on my skin and i let it go? Never mind. Jodha is going to be cornered in Amer and she will do as i please . Am i already rubbing my hands in glee? You bet!
So, aakhir Jalaal ko ho kya gayaa hai? Kya Jodha ka diyaa marham unnke dimaag pe chadh gayaa hai?
Jalaal ko kya hua hai, ye use khud ko bhi pataa nahin hai. On the surface, Jalaal is back to his cool cat demeanour , making everyone wonder what has gone wrong with him. Aadham, Maaham and Ruqqu are almost sure that the tiger clawed at Jalaal's brain too. What's with the complete surrender to the Rajvanshajs , appeasing Jodha, accepting Sukanya's wedding invitation , and taking the whole close entourage with him? And why did he unconsciously end up calling Ruqqu " doobta hua sooraj"? Why did he choose to make a joke about madly falling in love with Jodha when he till date he had never said such a thing even in a lighter vein?
This is how you decipher it.
A. Peripheral Jalaal
On the periphery, all the logics that Jalaal gave today - to Maaham, to Jodha, to Adnal Saab, to Ruqqu made complete sense. As per him, Sukanya's wedding is a political move that will help him win the subjugation of another Rajvansh state , and binding people in relationships and loyalty is better than raising swords at them ( this is something that our historical Akbar believed as well - a very powerful political weapon that serves your purpose and keeps your image spick and span as well ) . He says that his presence at Sukanya's wedding to the Prince of Dhawalgarh will enhance his reputation as a tolerant , secular emperor , and raise his respect amongst the Rajvansh clan. I have to conquer India , by hook or crook , and me sitting at my precious palace filing my nails will not achieve that. Enemies are never gonna spare me but i will do what i have decided. This entire wedding jazz is a matter of political subjugation for me. That's it. And my first word is my final word.
B. Core Jalaal.
" Aisse bahot se mauke milenge Amer mein." So, is it just about political subjugation , Jalaal? Did you tell the TRUTH to Jodha and Ruqqu? Infact, did you tell the truth to yourself? Or is it just you alone who knows the truth? If its only about going to Amer and giving a guest Jamaata appearance and winning over the Rajvanshajs , why did you mention it so gleefully and suggestively to Jodha that she is going to be at your beck and call? Why are you looking forward to playing a tease with Jodha over there? ( And don't give that innocent crap that you didn't know Ruqqu was not coming . You are insightful enough to know that Ruqqu would never step on Jodha's soil) . And even if for a moment, we believe that you said all that to tease and frustrate Jodha , what about your monologue reverie after she had left? You are looking forward to cornering the tigress at her own homeground. Confess! Mohabbat na sahee, ye jo aadat Jodha Beghum ki lagee hai aapko, uskaa aap kya keejega?
Point being , political subjugation, public image , true feelings, revenge or no revenge , chessboard or no chessboard , it all comes back to " Jodha Beghum." The writers have done such an amazing job at this sudden volteface of Jalaal ( especially the dialogue writer ) that you can only pull out your hair and scratch your temples while wondering what is exactly going on in Jalaal's mind. The only thing that you can be sure of is that Jalaal's fixation with Jodha won't rest at all even in Amer. Whatever he has thought of , and even if his Cheshire cat mind is running in 20 directions regarding Jodha - he will put it into action . Jaisa ki Jalaal ne kahaa, abb uspar mirch ka koi asar nahiin hotaa. Toh zaahir si baat hai - abb mirch par Jalaal ka asar hone ka waqt hai.
JJ are all set for a dangerous game where emotions , dignity , self respect and their hearts will be put at stake - its a gamble that could actually change the course of history for JJ.
Coming to Jodha, well, the writers didn't have to scratch their heads too much to to put her new found softness and care for Jalaal in doubt. The " Aap ittne vichitraa praani kyun hain" Jodha is back in action - where she is never able to decide if Jalaal is good or bad. So, when she comes to Jalaal's chambers to thank him for fixing Sukanya's wedding , Jalaal's answer and his smirks and grins tease the fiery Jodha. She is unable to understand his mysterious prowl around her and she is reactive to his saas-bahu waale taane. Jalaal ko mirchi hi pasand hai - Jodha ki cheeni Jalaal se bardaasht nahiin hui.
Jodha truce ki ummeed lekar aayi thi ek doubt ke saath and what did Jalaal do? He gave a sharpener to her to sharpen her claws. * head desk*
Coming to the last scene , its symbolic and quite dark-humoured in many ways. Jalaal is looking at the setting sun when Ruqqu comes . Jalaal equates Ruqqu's entry with the setting sun . Dark humour much? Or is it a foretelling from the man himself that Jodha shall be the rising sun?
And as i end my post, just a few words for you, Jalaal... "Mazaak zubaan se tab tak nahiin nikaltaa jab tak wo khayaal zehen aur dil par dastak na de. Aur insaan ko kabhi bhi kisi baat ka daawa nahiin karnaa chaahiye. Kudrat uskaa ultaa hi karti hai. Aaj seene mein dil na hone ka daawa hai - kal yahee dil dhadhakna seekh jaayega aur Shahenshah-E-Hindustan, aapse ye sahaa nahiin jaayega."
P.S- Welcome new Cupids of JJ - Aadham, Shareef and Maharana Pratap. Wink. Wink. Wink.
