Chapter 8: Even Walls Have Ears by TINA!

Teaser

"That's it.." the detached voice enticed from the shadows

beside Khushi. "Just a bit farther.."

She found herself following its alluring call. Her bare feet

padded across the palace's marble tiles, each step hesitant. A breeze drifted

past her, its chill making her shiver.

Almost there.. turn left now.. good, very good. Now push

open the door and step inside."

Once again, she didn't know why she was complying with the

voice's demands. But it was as if she was in a haze, a fog that knew no end.

As her foot crossed the threshold, something even stranger

happened. A fear threatened to choke her. Her heart stilled with alarm. A cry

escaped her as she stumbled backwards, trying to get away from the unknown

door.

But very pale, bony hands caught her wrists, dragging her

deeper inside the darkness.

"KHUSHI!"

She would have recognized Arnav's voice anywhere; it was

coming from down the hall. He sounded anxious.

The voice heard him too. Its unfamiliar hands immediately

recoiled, disappearing from sight.

Khushi would have fallen on the tiles, but Arnav caught her,

clasping her shaking body close.

"Khushi?">

She couldn't speak, pointing to the now locked door. "There

was something.. someone.."

Arnav frowned at the ornate door and then stepped forward,

turning the knob.

"Arnav! NO!" she screamed.

But it was too late. The door stood ajar, beckoning them in.
