The cast of Ramayan was not that great. The story was twisted too and it made no sense to have Mahadev in every scene or being a narrator and spectator. SRJ as Ram might have made some difference but even he wouldn't be able to salvage it if story was a sham.

In my opinion SRJ is more suited to play Krishna than Ram. His personality and screen presence are more in tune with the former.

This is also a fact that in a show on Lord Shiva viewers would prefer to watch stories related to Lord Shiva and his family rather than Ramayan!

Dont know.
But SRJ has a huge fan following(me included),so yes,i guess it would have received a better viewership I feel.

I found the ramayan track utterly boring.

The current track although is a total opposite!Very gripping.

Plus,im loving Mohitwa's aghori look! =)

Piyush was better suited to play Hanuman than Ram, no offense to his fans. His facial structure, especially around the mouth area, would have made him an excellent choice for Hanuman. He had the physique too, but as Ram he was only OK, not bad but not great either. I liked him better than Gagan Malik though, who played Ram recently in Zee Tv's Ramayan.

Regardless of that, this Ramayan track did not become a flop because of the actors. It became a flop because no one wanted to see Ram as a main lead in a Mahadev-centric show. How would people feel if Shiv Puran was shown in Ramayan, or Skanda Puran in Mahabharat? It would be totally unrelated.

Also, we have had too many Ramayans already, no one wanted to see a 4th one in DKDM. So yeah, even with SRJ I doubt the Ramayan track would have been a success.

I agree with you @JanakiRaghunath! I has same opinion on Piyush. He seemed more suited to play Hanuman than Ram, especially give facial structure around the mouth.

Given how Mahadev appeared at Lanka, around Tadaka etc. one wondered what was he waiting for and why was Ram needed if he could handle all troubling elements himself?

I agree Ramayan has been shown far too many times already in films and serials and even references to it have been made in a load of films/shows. So why would anyone like to watch it a show on Mahadev?

They can show only those events where Mahadev has appeared in Ramayan or MB. And finish off with that instead of showing these epics from the start.

I don't know why Mahadev was weeping so much in that track too. He wept when he told Janak about importance of becoming a parent, he wept at Ram's birth, he wept at his naamkaran, he was moist eyed when Ram was at gurukul...WHY was he crying?

DKDM spoiled the story, spoiled Mahadev's role in it, chose a bad cast...often so much was happening that it didn't look cohesive. Sometimes episodes were about Hanuman's birth and soul searching, sometimes it was about Raavan's frustration, sometimes it was about Sita and her dreams, sometimes it was Ram and Laxman (getting lecture from Mahadev also), sometimes Mahadev and Parvati talked only to themselves!

It somehow didn't come together properly. More often than not it left viewers with a feeling of "Yeh ho kya raha hai?!" or "Acha? Mahadev yahan bhi the?" It was simply confusing and senseless.

Yes, there's nothing wrong with that either. I didn't mean it as an insult, as Lord Hanuman's character is just as great as Lord Rama's. It is just that Piyush's facial structure doesn't fit the bill of Ram. He's a good actor, no doubt about that, but that's just how I felt.
Given how Mahadev appeared at Lanka, around Tadaka etc. one wondered what was he waiting for and why was Ram needed if he could handle all troubling elements himself? That's another reason why this Ramayan didn't work. Mahadev interfered in everything, so what was the need of Ram avatar? He could have killed Ravan himself. 😕

That also didn't sit well with me. Mahadev is one of the Trimurti. He was not an emotional character. Seeing Mahadev, Vishnu, and Brahma with such human feelings is not something I like. Their incarnations may have been emotional and humanistic, but the Trimurti were more poised and all-knowing.

Yeah, I agree. It was not just the actors. The execution of this Ramayan and the storyline were very faulty. No one wanted to see DKDM's Ramayan when there are far more accurate serials based on the epic.

It somehow didn't come together properly. More often than not it left viewers with a feeling of "Yeh ho kya raha hai?!" or "Acha? Mahadev yahan bhi the?" It was simply confusing and senseless.

As a fan of Piyush, I am sorry for him, he has the ideal look for playing divine roles (its unfortunate that Mahabharatal on star plus have established all their cast!) if only they made a different serial to accommodate the Ramayana katha then people would have been more willing to watch it, but the clash in trying to fit 2 in 1 was never going to work. I read somewhere that piyush claims to be a huge fan of Krishna, and I wish for his sake he could play Arjuna from Mahabharata, it would have suited him perfectly.
