Doctors-How much should they tell you?

I have seen one major difference between the doctors here in USA and those in India and that is,that the doctors in India won't tell you the whole problem unless and untill they are really sure that u need to know it ; whereas in US they will tell u even the smallest detail.

My son was born in India in one of the best hospitals of Delhi(comparable to any Hosp in US) and yet my gynec only told me only as much as i really needed to know but on the other hand the gynec here in US told me even the smallest detail when i was pregnant with my daughter.Often I used to think that what was the use other than that it made me nervous.

Which approach do u guys think is better, telling what is really reqd or telling u everything.I know that one of the reasons that the docs here tell u everything and do many tests is that they are afraid being sued whereas in India that is not the case, atleast not as yet.

My view is that tell me only that is reqd and don't tell me everything,it makes me nervous.

Tell me what do u think?

interesting topic

I think a patient should only know what they need to know. coz, not all patients will hear the news and start working to cure it in the positive way, especially if it is a big one, many will lose heart by just hearing the news, like Cancer or something. even if it is on first stage, most of the ppl start to think, as it is the end of their lives already. which is not good.

So i like how it works in India, and in my case Pakistan. patients are encouraged more, and are handled with way more cure. idhar tu in even emergency u have to wait for 4 hours for the doctor to come and check.

anyways, back to the topics. but yes I agree, that patients should only know, what they need to know, rest is doctor's job to cure it, and then maybe tell, what was wrong with them.

I think they should ask what kind of details the patient interested in and give out accordingly... since I would want to know to the minutest detail when they talk to me..and not some cursory info.. and somebody who doesnt want to know more can opt for that... 😊

As far as your body is concerned , the better informed you are , the better you can manage your health..
I suffer from seasonal allergies and didn't know the name until I moved out of Africa.. I was the kid who suffered from colds throughout the year when growing up not knowing it was allergies.. 😕

ya i agree with u Saba............😊but maybe in the case of cancer they do need to prepare the patient mentally for such a bad news but there is no point intelling little things.

I want to know as much as possible so I can also do my own research and be prepared about whatever I need to be with. I do not prefer to be in dark.

I think the doctors should tell thier patient each and every detail bec sometimes the smallest detail or problem can turn into a major problem which may be harmfull in the long run. Yes it defintly makes u nervous but atleast u take proper care because of it and if any problem occurs ur quick to catch the syntomphs. 😊
