Answer: The two most bankable stars are undoubtedly Salman and Shahrukh. Both have consistently delivered 100 crore grossers with ease in the last few years. But since you have specifically asked us to pick just one actor (at the risk of being called biased by those who dislike him) it has to be Shahrukh Khan. For the simple reason that he has attempted different genres. Even some of his films that were universally ridiculed have managed to collect more than 100 crore in India.
Ra One (superhero) - With budget constraints, superhero films are risky. Ra One was slammed by the critics, ridiculed on social media.. but by the end of its run the film collected more than 200 crores worldwide.
Don 2 (thriller) - Had little or no mass-appeal and was mainly targeted towards the multiplex audience. The film had no songs, critics didn't praise it either. But, 100 cr+ in India, 200 cr+ worldwide.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (romance) - Yash Chopra tragically passed away a month before the film's release, A.R. Rahman's music was way below expectations, faced stiff competition from a massy-entertainer like Son Of Sardaar, lost a few crores due to Bal Thackerey's death.. But the result? 200 crore+ worldwide
Then came Chennai Express, which got the best release date and the rest is history.
Yes, Salman has been much more successful at the domestic box office. His last 5 films have all been blockbusters, but most belong to the same genre which is a mixture of action, comedy and romance. Aamir has a massive audience too, and Talaash would have easily collected 100 cr+ if it released during a holiday weekend without competition from so many films. But since it didn't cross 100, we cannot even consider him. Ranbir's Besharam is likely to wrap up under 100 and Hrithik has only one film in the 100 crore club.
