Hiya Everyone!! Thanks for the wonderful comments you guys left me!!!❤️ You guys are wonderful😊...So here's chapter -1...
|| Married To Darkness ||
CHAPTER- 1
"There is a reason why I called you here, Anwar"
"Dilshad Aapa, is there any thing you want me to do? You know I can do anything for you...please don't hesitate". Anwar was tensed seeing his beloved Aapa in this condition, lying almost lifelessly on the hospital bed. He knew that there was something very important she wanted to talk to him about and that's why Anwar had to come all the way from New York to meet her.
"Anwar..." Dilshaad slowly lifted her hand and held Anwar's firmly,
" Beta I want to ask your Zoya's hand for marriage to my son, Asad"
Anwar didn't see this coming at all. He was more than confused as Dilshad had met Zoya only once, that too five years back. He wasn't too sure as to why she would want Zoya to be married to her son.
"Aapa lekin aap tho Zoya ko jaante bhi nahin ho?"
"Kisi ko jaanna hamesha zaroori nahin hota Anwar. Aur Zoya tumhare parvarish mein pali badhi hai, mujhe yakin hai ki who mere bete aur mere parivar ko puri tarah se apna legi. Mere paas waqt bahut kam hai Anwar aur mujhe pata hai ki mere jaane ke baad Asad bilku akela ho jayega, mein marne se pehle apne bete ka ghar baste hue dekhna chati hoon...Please meri akhri khwaish puri kar do..." Tears welled up in her eyes as she thought of parting away from her son. Her only wish was to see him happy and move on in life.
"Aap fikr naa karein aapa, Zoya zaroor apke ghar ki bahu banegi..." Anwar promised Dilshaad and headed back to the Hotel where he was staying with his wife Zeenat and Zoya.
He had to talk to them and most importantly convince Zoya to enter this alliance. Somehow he still felt obliged to Dilshad for all she had done to help him. Because of her he had been able to make a name for himself and sustain his family. But at the same time he also knew what Zoya had always wished for and her dreams of marrying a man she loves. He sincerely hoped that she understands his situation this time.
--------------------------------
Dilshad managed to brush away her fears in front of Anwar but couldn't help think about it once she was alone in her room. Anwar might not have realized but she had asked him for a huge favor. Knowing that her son was not the easiest man to live with, she might just have spoiled the girl's future by asking her to marry him. She was well aware of the fact that Asad will never accept her in her life, at least not easily, but she earnestly hoped that he would eventually. Somehow her heart told her that Zoya was the only one who could bring light in her son's dark life. She truly hoped so.
----------------------------------------------------------
Zeenat did not like what Anwar was proposing. She was more than apprehensive of marrying Zoya off to a complete stranger. She understood the respect her husband had for Dilshad and also the fact that he knew her for a very long time, but even that wasn't enough for her to be convinced.
"Magar...aap-"
"Ab kuch nahin Zeenat...Zoya ka nikah ab Asad se hi hoga" Anwar said firmly.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Zoya was comfortably sitting on the couch in her hotel room with her eyes fixed on the TV screen and her heart melting at the beautiful dialogues-
"So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me, every day. Will you do something for me, please? Just picture your life for me? 30 years from now, 40 years from now? What's it look like? If it's with him, go. Go! I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If I thought that's what you really wanted. But don't you take the easy way out."
"Oooh! So sweet..." she gushed like a love struck teenager hearing Ryan Gosling mouth the famous lines from her favourite movie of all time, The Notebook. For a second she escaped into her dreamland, imagining herself as Ellie, standing in front of her Noah with nothing but love in her heart.
Where will I find such a man? Ya Allah please please find me such a person who would love me like there is no tomorrow! Is it too much to ask for? PUH-LEASE!!!
She broke from her trance as she heard someone open the door.
It was Anwar and Zeenat.
"Zoya, beta we need to talk to you."
"Not now Jiju...I am watching my favourite movie. I'll talk to you guys once I finish"
" You probably have seen this movie a thousand times! Please Zoya, come naa...there is something very important we want to tell you"
She noticed the urgency in his voice and half-heartedly switched off the TV.
"Uff ho! I'm coming" She went on to sit besides her Aapi and Jiju on the sofa.
"Z...Zoya" Zeenat hesitated in breaking the news to Zoya but finally went ahead, "Beta, your Jiju has arranged your marriage to Dilshaad Aapa's son. She insisted on making you her bahu." Zeenat noticed the change of expression on Zoya's face and fondly held her hand, "Beta you are very lucky that you will be married to such an influential man. Asad Ahmed Khan, her son, is one of the richest businessmen in India. You will be very happy with him.."
Saying that Zoya was shocked would be an understatement. She was most certainly confused and baffled. It was all too sudden for her.
Marriage? And that too to a person I don't know?!
She didn't care that he was the richest man or whatever. All she cared about was the kind of man she would be married to.
"But Aapi. I don't even know him. Forget about knowing, I haven't even seen him once! How can I marry a person I don't even know?"
Anwar knew that Zoya would not agree so easily.
"Zoya don't you trust your Jiju?...Please trust me... The family is really good. Yes, It' s true that I haven't met Asad personally but I am sure he is very nice. After all he is Dilshaad Aapa's son."
Zoya wasn't sure how to react at that point of time. Her Aapi and Jiju have always been on her side and loved her like their own daughter. She would never in the world, let them down. She remembered when she was a little girl, and they bought her home from the orphanage. She recalled how she was scared and Zeenat and Anwar comforted her and gave her all their love. Not even once had they asked her for something in return, as they were always the ones giving. But this time it was Zoya's turn. And if they had decided something for her, agreeing to it would be the least she could do.
"O..Okay" said Zoya meekly trying to sound as calm as possible, " Jiju I trust you with the world! I am sure that whatever you descide for me would be in my best interests. I am ready for this marriage."
Anwar was moved seeing Zoya's trust in him and his decisions. He was more than proud of her and the upbringing that he and Zeenat gave to her.
Managing a wide smile he engulfed her in a bear hug with tears in his eyes. Zeenat swiftly joined in and like a perfect little family they held each other strongly, masking their inner fears and apprehensions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ma'am your son is here to see you", said a scared looking nurse as she opened the door of Dilshad's room, making way for a tall handsome man, Asad Ahmed Khan.
Dilshaad could very well notice his usual state. His red eyes told her about the many nights he hadn't slept for. The stern cold expression was almost a signature to Asad's persona. It wasn't very difficult to sense the negative vibes he carried along with him. Only a few people who knew him, understood, the complexity of his nature and the hatred he carried for the rest of the world.
"You have again started drinking, Beta?"
This was probably the only thing Dilshad enquired him about. His addiction to alcohol was slowly killing him and it was clearly evident in his demeanor.
Asad cleverly dodged his mother's question and posed one instead, "Ammi you called me? Is everything all right? You seem weaker than before...aren't these people treating you well?" . He never showed but Dilshaad knew how his heart breaks to see her like that. Dying. And he can't do anything about it.
"Beta your Ammi is dying" Dilshaad choked back her tears, " You have to stop worrying about me..."
The mention of death' scared him. His Ammi was the only person he was attached to and she meant the world to him. And that's why for him to understand, that a day would come when she would leave him, was very very difficult.
He held her hand softly and said, " Ammi you are not going anywhere...nothing is going to happen to you"
Dilshad smiled vaguely, "You can't change what Allah has decided Beta...you have to let me go. But this doesn't mean that your life ends with mine. Whatever happened in the past shouldn't affect your future...you have to learn to live"
"But I don't want to Ammi."
" Don't say that", she paused and continued, "Do you even look at yourself? And what you have made your life to be? One day you have to come out of your miseries Asad. This is how life works; you have to learn to forget. Tell me, why are you leading such a directionless life? Why do you treat life as a burden?"
"Because this is who I am Ammi! And there can be no change. This is how it will always be. I want it to be like this", he said harshly.
Dilshad tried to hide her tears but helplessly couldn't. Her heart broke seeing Asad in a condition like this, where he didn't even want to live.
She wiped off her tears and looked at Asad with earnest eyes, "Beta meri ek baat manoge?"
Asad nodded his head in agreement.
" Get married Asad. Aaj Anwar milne aye the. Who apni sali ka haath tumhare haath mein dene ke liye razi ho gayen hain beta. She is a very nice gir-"
Asad immediately stood up in defense, " Ammi why don't you understand? Marriage is not a solution to my problems!"
"I know it isn't. But at least it can give you new beginning. Tum apni Zindagi ek naye sirhe se shuru kaar sakte ho-"
"Meri zindagi jaisi hai who waisi hi rahegi aur mein koi nikah nahin karna chahta"
"Well this time you don't have a choice. You will get married and that's final. Abhi tum itne bade nahin hue ho ki apni ammi ki har baat se inkaar kar sako!"
He didn't say a word and walked away from the room, leaving a tearful Dilshad behind.
She knew that Asad hadn't agreed to get married but this didn't mean that he wouldn't. She was sure of the fact that Asad won't do a thing against his dying mother's wish. He would surely comply.
She prayed to Allah and asked for forgiveness. After all she was indirectly writing the fate of two lives, of Asad and of Zoya's. She asked for his blessings and wished for everything to fall into place.
