I have done few films with Deepika, we have been in a relationship. She is my friend and shall always remain my friend. I second what Deepika said in a magazine, because I too have a special feeling for her." Ranbir kapoor

While the star is scared to meet his daddy's eye in real life on the sets he took the
onus of fathering his parents!

Ranbir Kapoor who will be sharing the screen space with his dad, Rishi Kapoor and mom, Neetu Kapoor inAbhinav Kashyap's, Besharam' for the first time, says that it reversed the father-son relationship as on the sets he took on the mantle of fathering his parents.

Taking about real life relationship with his dad, he shares, "Like any other father son relationship in India, kids always use their mom as mediators to dad. Similarly, my mother would take all my wishes to Rishi Kapoor (dad). As a son, I could never speak to dad while looking straight into his eyes. I had no guts to face him directly." But he shares how in the sets he took on the role of fathering his parents and says, "But working on the sets with mom and dad, I would act like their father. I always took care of mom and dad. I was more concerned that dad should not dislike anything and then get angry on the sets. I also cared for them so as to be working in comfortable conditions. I did not want them to perspire in the heat."
The actor however confesses that he was nervous while sharing space with his dad onscreen and says, "But let me tell you while enacting with dad, I would get nervous. I learnt how naturally he enacts every scene. He would not over act at any point of time. His dance would also translate so very naturally on the big screen. It is then I realized that he was doing so for the big screen."
Taking about how onscreen he got a chance to call his dad names that he would never do in real life, he shares, "Yes, in real I can never dis-respect my mom and dad, but in front of the camera I did call him many names like moottu', Kung Fu Pandey', Dharti par boojh' etc. In real life, during my college days too I never kept any names for dad."
Sharing his gladness about the film not coming as a package deal to the family, he says, "Also, I am happy that this film did not come as a combo-deal to us. Every one of us was narrated the roles at different point of time and we decided on an individual level whether to go ahead with it or not?" And adds, "I play the thief while both of them play the police. So the dynamics of the film looks great. Had it been a simple mother-father and son like character then the equation would have been different. We are happy to have gotten a chance to work together, yet for a dramatic, entertainment thriller. This is totally Abhinav's idea."
On Salman Khan's latest compliment he says, "I think it is very sweet of him to compliment my work. It feels great to hear such compliments from an actor of his caliber. This surely makes it evident that our seniors are not insecure at all." And adds, "Also, about defeating Shah Rukh Khan, I do not think I possess all the potentials. I would never like to take the credit of my latest film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' to have turned blockbuster because of me. I feel the buzz about our pair, Deepika Padukone-Ranbir had also garnered enough positivity while the promos were shown. Also the music had turned to be chart buster. Every element falling in the right place brings more numbers for the film at the box office windows. I only hope Besharam' brings success as the film has entertainment, comedy as well as thrill in it."
Talking about his friendship with Deepika, he shares, "I have done few films with Deepika, we have been in a relationship. She is my friend and shall always remain my friend. I second what Deepika said in a magazine, because I too have a special feeling for her." When asked about his special friendship with Katrina Kaif, he evades it by saying, "Katrina too is a special friend to me. As I have always been saying that I do not want my personal life to be hyped. I do not want to discuss anything about it. Wait until I am married!"
Talking about Besharam', he says, "It is a masala film. I wanted to do this genre. Usually as an actor I feel all of us want to try films on varied genres. I tried this genre merely because I feel the audiences too want to be fed with these kinds of films." About his future projects, he shares, "I am also doing a film titled, Jagga Jasoos' under my banner, this is like the God father series. My grandfather had attempted a film, Karam Chand' based on this genre; my role is somewhat like Sherlock Homes. Both I and Anurag Basu are jointly doing so." And adds, "I love to watch shows like Mr Selfridge'. Currently, I am watching The Killings'. This is based on a crime drama from Denmark. I am watching such shows also because my mysterious Jagga Jasoos' will go on floors in November this year. Basically mystery brings some kind of enthusiasm in me. I love watching such shows."
Sharing the experience of working with brothers, Anurag Kashyap and Abhinav Kashyap, he says, "Both are like moon and the sun. In Bombay Velvet', I play a boxer of the fifties and the sixties. While Anurag makes intense films, Abhinav is good at expressing very simple things naturally. I love to explore different genres, hence I have loved working with both the brothers."
Taking about his role model, he shares, "My grandfather, Raj Kapoor is my idol. He made a name for himself and also had turned producer at an early age. I have been able to turn a producer so late. He was a talented actor and had a vision far ahead than all of us at that point of time. I respect him and also feel happy that he is honoured worldwide. I cannot be like him but at least I shall try to follow his footsteps by putting in my sincere efforts."
Lastly, all praises for Dilip Kumar he says, "I can never forget how Dilip saab had visited me when my debut film Sawaariya' released. He had come at the gates of my bungalow and asked my gatekeeper to call me. I was shocked to see him there. He was sitting in the car and he blessed me for my performances in the film. He made me sit down and narrated all the stories of Mughal-E- Azam'. Also how they would go in support of my dad's film whenever his films released. During those days actors were not selfish, they all stood by each other. Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Dilip Saab, Raj Kapoor were all good friends. Though they may have been competitors but never had any ill feelings for each other. I wish him all the good health."
