I wasnt dating Alia:Sidharth Malhotra

It's been a year since the release of his debut film Student Of The Year, but Siddharth Malhotra's continuing to bask in the glory of its success.

Touted as one of the most promising newcomers of his generation, he believes that he is destiny's favoured child. "(Or else) a boy next door from Delhi couldn't have succeeded in making it to the big screen," he says with a grin, talking about the journey.

While counterparts like Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Ayushmann Khurrana ensure that they are seen at the right place at the right time, Siddharth has been lying low. Any reason? "It is not a calculated or planned move. I'm not the kind who thrives on being on Page 3. I won't fret and fume if my pictures and interviews don't appear in the papers. I do go for parties and events, but I do it keeping my comfort level in mind. If I feel like it, I attend, if I don't, I don't pressurise myself. I'm happy being low profile," he says.

However, Siddharth does admit that there is tough competition in the industry. "I feel really lucky to be a part of the film industry when it's undergoing a big transition. There are good films and filmmakers who have the ability to take cinema to the next level. And yes, that does put pressure on me. The constant effort to make the right decision is a task. Like Karan (Johar) always says, one wrong move can finish you and one right move can work wonders. There is competition, insecurity and the desire to be better than the best but I don't let that be my focus. At the risk of sounding selfless, I want Sushant, Varun and all the actors to do well in their respective careers. But I want to be better than the best," he says.

Siddharth has also been in the news for his now-on, now-off relationship with Alia Bhatt. The actress was also rumoured to be dating their other SOTY co-star, Varun Dhawan. "I was never dating Alia," Siddharth says. "She is an attractive girl, but she is too young for me. However, for her age, Alia is very sorted. She understands the difference between love and relationships. In fact, she was one of the girls who made me understand that you can date without falling in love."
So, has he applied that rule to his love life? "There is no love life," Sid laughs. "I do go out but that can't be termed as being in a relationship. I have had my share of relationships and attractions but nothing worth talking about."

At the moment, Siddharth's focus is his film Hasi Toh Phasi and his other untitled project. "I want to make it big in the industry. I want to buy a huge house like Shah Rukh (Khan) sir. If my career matches 50 percent of SRK's successful innings, I'll consider myself a winner," he says.
