Kareena Kapoor Khan - Will the real life begum become royal onscreen?

Her marriage to the Nawab of Pataudi was the talk of the town last year; and now she could use the experience in a new Tigmanshu Dhulia film

When Kareena Kapoor became Begum of Pataudi, it made headlines. And now news of her reprising that role in reel life is garnering just as much publicity. The story is that Mrs Khan will soon play a version of herself - she has replaced Rani Mukerji in Tigmanshu Dhulia's next, based on the dramatic history of Begum Samru. Tigmanshu said some time ago, "The film is set in the 1840s and will be based on a Hindi novel. The story is a different take on Umrao Jaan. The lead actress will be a begum, not anautch girl. The begum woos four men before falling in love with one of them and that's where the trouble begins." Interestingly, this role was tailor made for Rani; in fact, the filmmaker wrote the script keeping the Black actor in mind. However, the project was first delayed due to its extensive production work, and later the director decided to go ahead with two other films, both featuring Bebo's husband Saif Ali Khan - Bullet Raja andRevolver Rani. Now with Ms Mukerji backing out of the film citing date issues, we are not really surprised that Kareena Kapoor Khan was offered the role. After all, what better than to have a real life begum play the part!

Also, considering the great rapport that Tigmanshu shares with Saif, we are sure it would have been fairly easy to get KKK on board, never mind that the biwi-miyaan insist that their work is independent of their life together. Now while Kareena's spokesperson says that the actor will give this project a dekho only once she returns from her holiday with Saif in London and her big birthday bash, we are left wondering why Rani turned it down.

After all, Rani doesn't have many films in her kitty right now. So is the actor so busy helping alleged beau Aditya Chopra with running Yash Raj Films? Or is the much rumoured shaadi with Adi is what keeping her so occupied? Watch this space for more on that. Meanwhile, we think that Rani should take a cue from Kareena - remember how Bebo wrapped up all her work commitments just in time for her big day? As for Bebo, who earlier refused this film because of its lovemaking scenes, will she make an exception for this one? Only the begum herself can answer that one!

Talking about Kareena Kapoor's interest in the film, Tigmanshu's official spokesperson said in a statement: "It is too early to talk about the details of the film, but Kareena is definitely excited for this film."

She should, only if the script makes sense. But she should definitely have other movies releasing the yr this movie release. Balancing is an art that she still needs to learn.

Even if she accepts it, it wont release until late 2014 or 2015.

She has the Emraan Hashmi film in Aug- 2014.

Shuddhi in 2015.

I do know she said in an interview a month before she tied the knot, that she will conscientiously do less films now, coz she was exhausted with 4 film releases alongside promotions and endorsements.

I still cannot believe she only has one release next year. This is the same woman who lobbied aggressively for work, even if it was just one song in a film. I liked that tactic of hers, some exposure is always good. But you don't want people to completely forget you either. She's at a critical stage of her career, the choices she makes now will decide how her future professionally shapes up. The audience simply doesn't care anymore...it's the actors and actresses that have to constantly keep on working to remain in the news.

kareena fits the character...i am sure she will do justice to the role as she is such a power-packed performer...she is so beautiful...and it just a bonus marks for the role...

Yes she should go for it if she is comfortable with the script! She has nothing to lose & T.Dhulia is a very good director IMO!

Absolutely should.

This woman was a prostitute turned ruler turned warrior princess. The scope for performance is immense. You can't write characters like these. Seems like Tigmanshu wants to focus on the prostitute part and it might be too explicit for Kareena. There's no other reason to say no to something this massive. But, she should shed those inhibitions and just do it. Its a role of a lifetime.
