Inability to Deal with a Roadblock
I have not read the novel but from what I see on the telly show - it appears SC depicts the inability to deal with a roadblock.
What do I mean by this?
When there is a road accident and the cars ahead of you are stalled and lined up ahead of you and you want to move ahead what do you do? You either switch to a lane that is moving (albeit at a slower pace) and/or exit out at the earliest point and find an alternate route.
But this healthy solution is not embedded in the story. Instead, what we see is the protagonist's mother resorting to suicide; the protagonist hanging on to his sweetheart who is married to another man, and Kumud (the female lead) holding on stubbornly to an abusive and violent husband. Of course the rest of the cast believe in this type of behavior too and take foolish steps to goad Kumud into relentlessly holding on to her ridiculous decision.
Worse still the show conveniently chooses select observances of Hinduism to justify Kumud's inappropriate behavior totally neglecting the fact that Hinduism is Sanatana dharma which is a way of life with a coherent and rational view of reality. Something that Kumud and the rest of the cast in SC seem to lack.
Of course when the CVs lack the awareness and the masses (read TRP customers) are hooked - it follows that we can expect only more of such in the show!!
