women today are handicapped by their own upbringing and thinking, of how a man would want a women to be. and that is a shame. This is the land and of Goddess Parvati and Laxmi. but it is also the land of Goddess Druga and Kali. if women can be soft, sweet, nurturing and obedient, she can also be stong, hard, ruthless, demanding and destructive .
women today have forgotten their roots and become subservient to men. if men today abuse and molest women the woman will suffer in silence, rather the speak up and fight for her honer and right to exist with selfesteem.

People who think that women in the 16th century were subservient to the husbands and men an a whole. you are wrong, women in powerful positions would have been just as aggressive and ambitious in any age. if England could have a powerfull woman like Queen Elizebeth rule Great Britain in the 16th century, why could not Jodha a Rajput princess married to the empror of india have oodles of attitude? to question her husband in privet and even rebuke him with her displeasure. if women rule the house hold in the 21st century. 16th century princess and queens would be even more powerful in their respective household. and if you notice Jodha does not insult or rebuke her husband in public, but in the privacy of their chambers. like any good wife. Jodha has no reason to respect a man like Jalal, she hated him before marriage, he didnt give her the respect of a wife after marriage, so why should he have any affection for him after all that he has done to her and her family.

Jodha may be married to emperor Jalaludin but she is not his wife yet, she is still Rajput princess Jodha. and till she is been given the honor of being Empress Jodha of India she will act like princess Jodha of Amer. strong and feisty.

and people should not forget that in India is the country where the Male God and the Female Goddess has equal power, status and reverence.

it is only the new 19th century that and western christian culture that has brought about this discrepancy between the importance of men and women. but India women were revived from time immemorial . we have two great epics to remind us of how much influence the women had over men. if were not of importance or influential wars would not have been fought in their honor and men would not want to kill or be killed for the honer of their women.

it is only the modern man who holds low esteem for women. they have forgotten their roots, if a woman can be sacrificing like sita, she can also be as destructive at Durga and Kali.

you should go back and read your history book and powerful woman like Rani Laxmi Bai. Razia Sultan. and other women who challenged the power of men will pop up. and for your information the were not 21st century women.

Thank you for making this post. I hate how Indian television thrive on glorifying and romanticizing female abuse and violence on women. And how if a heroine is even a little different from the doormat pattern, set by Indian television, everyone jumps in outrage. I mean, really dude? Little girls are watching these shows. You really want them to believe women are ridiculous, week, pathetic losers? That they always need a man? That violence is romantic? Shame on this society, man. A society which, once flourished with matriarchal pattern and glorified strong and independent women, now portrays women as meek, domestic cows. Pathetic.

Very well written...absolutely true Indian women are handicapped by their own upbringing and thinking...i hav seen many such instances...i really hate when in tv serials women were put on pedestal and being potrayed as great sacrificial lambs...they never fight for themselves, though fighting for family is one of their pastime...and the abuses they tolerate...sometimes i feel like smashing my tv set...Wholly agree with your post...but i wants to point out something...u wrote this is land of Goddess Laxmi and Parvati as well as Goddess Durga and Kali...it reminds me of a dialogue i heard in DABH...Bhavo saying she wanted Laxmi as bahu not Durga when Sandhya saved fasmily during bomb track...people often think goddess Laxmi is subservient types and i want to mention a story here...
There is a oriya festival of goddess Laxmi Manabasa, celebrated during December...story behind it goes like this...
There was a lady of low caste Sriya Chandaluni who performed this brat and Goddess Laxmi went to her house to bless her...it was against rules to go to house of low caste...Lord Balabhadra saw her and told Lord Jagannath and hence Lord ousted Goddess from Puri temple...before leaving the temple she cursed them that they wont get to eat anything unless she herself cooked for them...Goddess went and made her own palace with help of Viswakarma on sea beach and thought to teach Lords a lesson...she wanted men to respect their wives...due to her Maya whole Puri temple became scarce of food and water...Lords had to move out of Puri temple and beg for food...but they didnt eat and drink anything for 12 years...after roaming for so many years they reached the palace of the Goddess and beg her some food...when she herself cooked for them they could eat...
I love reading this story...this even Lords wont be spared if mistreat women...and there was saying in oriya if one would misbehave with women and they would suffer such like...

Great post ! Honestly d day Jodha becomes a docile sweet little queen, I'll quit watching d show happily. I want Jodha to be much more fiesty than she's right now.
I don't know what to say of those people in d forum who r asking to portray Jodha as a door mat. Just makes me sick thinking of them.
