There's a proverb in Bengali which says wherever you see a heap of ash, try to blow it off, who knows you may find a priceless jewel hidden under it...and so is this piece of writing...just loved it to the core...

Chapter 2
"Ten thousand big ones for your services. Tell him you earned well at the beauty parlour or whatever shit show you say you work at".
She cupped Madhu's face in her hands and kissed her forehead. "Aloha bitches!" she announced to whoever was listening.
Just as one hellmaker left, another made himself comfortable on the bar stool across the kitchen island.
"What did she give you?" Rishabh asked, biting into an unwashed kiwifruit, with its furry skin still intact.
Madhu quickly slapped his hand, pulling the half eaten fruit out of his grip.
"You're going to get sick".
"You'd like that very much, wouldn't you?" he looked toward his wife a bit too long, much to her discomfort.
"What do you mean?"
Rishabh raised an eyebrow implying both parties knew exactly what he meant and that she wasn't allowed to question him further. She dropped the topic like a cold turkey, and moved on to washing the dishes as fast as humanly possible.
He walked up behind her, pressing his hand so deep into the skin of her stomach that he could unknot the tension pooling in there with his grip. With a slight slap on the head, he titled her neck to get access and whispered into it's crook, "What I mean, my dear wife, is that today is about time you should let your husband in on your dirty secret. Where'd you get the money from?"
His arm reached underneath the cabinet where Nina had hidden the cash earlier, getting the treasure out with ease. RK took pride in being a respectful man, if not in any other aspects of his life, then atleast in earning an honest living.
If the money wasn't his blood, sweat, and tears, he wouldn't want anything to do with it. Sure Madhu could earn a living but not if it was the devil's property. And right now, the load of cash sitting pretty on the countertop didn't help brighten her prospects of getting out of this mess unharmed. He asked again, this time with fear inducing determination in his words, where she got the money from.
"Please don't hurt me". As she backed away from his intimidating ambush, Madhu's hand tipped over the Karvachauth thali she'd prepared for the festival. Sindoor came crashing down coloring crimson anything in its wake. "I love you", said she wanting this nightmare to stop. "I am not wrong this time", she blurted out. Surprisingly, this made Rishabh stop dead in his tracks.
"Go on", he screamed settling comfortably on a cleared cabinet top.
"When we did this before, I let you, because one way or another, I had wronged you. But I am not wrong this time. I didn't do anything I shouldn't have. You are in trouble and as you wife, it is my job to protect you".
She knelt down before him, her eyes looking up to meet his.
"Please", her pleading tone softened his stance.
He jumped down to join her on the floor. He lifted up her top and traced his fingers around the wounds on her skin.
"I did this to you, didn't I?"
She didn't answer verbally but shook her head against his chest. She stepped on his toes as he pulled both their bodies upright.
"Do you love me, only me?" Rishabh's question rang through her head and his hand mapped her scalp with his touch.
"Yes", she answered without a breath. He tossed her a cigarette lighter and inched toward the stack of cash. His thumb forced open the flame and her hand hesitantly reached to light the money on fire. It was his only condition. If she didn't want him to question her, she should burn the money. They would never speak of the matter again and he wouldn't hit her.
A fear that, mind you, clouded her judgement more than it should. He'd never done the deed but, he'd gotten pretty close to it. His affections weren't those considered "out of love" by the normal human. Every touch turned into a hand mark printed on her skine, every kiss a nibble, every whisper a sharp bite, and every grab just short of a punch.
She'd endured it, and him, for as long as they'd been together. Which was far too long, if you asked a sane person. She'd reasoned with her head telling it, she was no lady with the white hat either. Her journeys often took their fair share of stray roads.
'T was her black money that ran the house, the earning with an origin so dark, she didn't dare mention it to herself let alone another soul. So, she would bear him because he was the only person who would love her, rough or gentle, he was the only person who would cry if she was found dead in a desert somewhere. He was her only reason left to live and she would take whatever he grief he gave her.
All her hard earned income had now turned to ashes. Tears trickled down her cheeks faster than she could wipe them off. Rishabh held her arms behind her back, fearing she might try to save some notes. She didn't wince until his grip tightened on her wrists.
His nails digging inches into her veins, he spoke, "cry and I will do what I threaten to do every time. This hurts, doesn't it?"
"Yes"
"That's how I feel when my wife lies to me. Bloody hell, I would rather go hungry than eat this shit you buy me. I can't imagine what drug den, what wh**ehouse this rascal dollar has changed hands in".
"I've never been with anyone but you", she wanted to say. But the things she did to get three meals on the table were far worse than being called a wh**e. She gulped down the accusations and put on a cheery smile.
"I am going to fast tomorrow. Be sure to come home before the Karvachauth moon appears".
He forced off her arms looping around his neck.
"I must say I am rather impressed. Putting out to strangers by day, being the neighborhood Savitri by night. Don't worry, you won't have to s**t it out much longer. My movie is coming out tomorrow, I am going to be a big deal soon".
He left her surrounded by tears, ashes, and humiliation.
"Oh, and before I forget, don't let you tits out for the premiere. Look a little civil, actual people are coming".
