This had not been a good day so far. The conversation with Dev had left her in a sad mood. When the driver dropped her off at Chandni Chowk she realized she had left her purse in the outhouse office. There was nothing left to do but walk home. It was at least a forty minute walk and she mindlessly walked the dim lit neighborhood. The song playing in the market had made matters worse and she was gripped with a sense of sadness. Thoughts of Maan flooded her heart.

I am walking along slowly with my broken chappal on the dark street returning from work at the car repair shop. Across the street I see someone who looks like Geet. Surely, it would not be her this late in this neighborhood. I am about to cross the street when a black Mercedes passes by slowing down when the driver sees Geet. The driver stops and makes a U-turn approaching Geet from behind. The man dressed in black has a black ski mask on so I cannot see his face. Only his eyes are open.

I watch spell bound as Dev navigates the car full speed in the darkening neighborhoods of Delhi. His cell phone is crackling with the instructions from the police commissioner. Anxiety and fear grip my insides as I realize that if my phone call had been tapped it could very well be Brij or Suraj behind Geet's disappearance. I beg God that it would not be her who has to pay for my foolishness. Tomorrow, I decide, I will leave from here and return home to face the consequences. They could kill me but if they hurt a hair on her head I will never be able to forgive myself.
