Retun from Sujanpur
While the proud ladies of the harem appear prouder due to their son's/husband's achievements, unfortunate Jodha only hears about her brother's wounds and breaks down into tears in front of her Kanha. To add insult to injury, she overhears a couple of soldiers talking about Ratan Singh's death too!
Welcome Hero
Those who'd missed Hameeda bidding farewell to her son before the start of the war are blessed with a scenes of a reception from her now. When his mother asks him about his wounds he replies
'Even if my wounds were deep there's nothing to worry about. Wounds are mementos of a soldier that reflect on his time at the battlefield! Besides, my wounds healed the very moment I slaughtered Ratan Singh!'
(Point noted that Ruqaiyya appeared a tad bit worried for her Shauhar here which is a good sign!)
It was a sweet gesture of Hameeda when she notices BD's wounds and orders the Hakim to tend to him too
Jalal @ Hamaam
Loool and here the bathtub gang are blessed with another scene of Jalal in his famous Hamaam-khaana. With a wry smile on his face, he relishes the luxury of being doted upon by the baandis. However, his thoughts are on the war scenes that transpired in the battlefield that morning.
Jodha-brothers
(This was possibly the best sibling scene I've witnessed here till date š³)
A heartbroken Jodha rushes to visit her wounded brother and weeps out to him 'Why have you done this to yourself? For whom did you take upon this trouble?'
'For him, whose protection I had taken up as a responsibility!' Bhagwant Das replies proudly
'Why did you have to go to war? You risked your life to save him? The very man who murdered our own sister's husband!
'No he hasn't been murdered' BD corrects her 'He has lost his life in war'
They try and comfort her. However, Jodha is inconsolable. Breaking down in front of her brothers, she curses her fate 'I hate the fact that I accepted this proposal...I only have ill-wishes for him!'
They grow increasingly surprised by her negativity! BD instantly shuts her mouth 'Don't do this Jodha...he is your husband! Never wish ill upon him!'
'You can stop my words but not what goes on in my mind' she confesses 'Whenever I think of him, I only experience 'hatred' for him(yayyy return of the prodigal Ghrinaš„³!)'
BD sternly tells her off for doing so - after all, what she did was againt Rajput maryaadaa!
Jodha is angered - she storms off saying she'd do what HER MARYAADA guided her to do!
[Loool @ our filmy Indian sense of drama- šIn the hamaama khaana, the baandis who're tending to Jalal observe the lightning outside and comment 'Seems like there is going to be a thunderstorm anytime soon'
And in barges Jodha! ]
Jalaal-Jodha
'I have to talk to you' She says, storming inside
His expression instantly turns sour 'Takhliya'
Wrapping himself in his (infamous) red shawl he walks up to her 'Without my permission, you've stepped out of your isolation once again. It has become a habit of yours to disobey my orders. What do you have to say in your defence?'
'Nothing in my defence..' she pauses with no expression whatsoever 'I CONSENT that I'm the one who committed the murder...I gave the arkh to Ruq Begum...I didn't want anyone to become more powerful than I...I present myself here to be punished now...kill me now'
Angered, he turns around and grabs his sword. When he places it on her neck, she asks for her last wish (get it? A dying person's last wishš)- that her brothers be let free! (Hurrah! At least one of our guesses is right forum-waasiyon)
Reminding Jalal of how faithful her brothers had been to him, she takes all the blame upon herself.
Gritting his teeth in anger, he listens to her false confession and is about to bring the sword down upon her neck when the blade of his sword is stopped midway.
Blood spatters on his face and we get to see that the person who'd stopped him was none other than his best friend Ruqaiyya [very very unexpected and personally, I feel this scene was very well shot!š]
On opening her eyes, Jodha is alarmed! How beautiful that her first thoughts are for Ruqaiyya - she frees the queen's injured hand from the sword. [Even later, we learn that her thoughts are on Ruqaiyya's straightforwardness - I was touched today]
Needless to say, Jalal is displeased and shocked by Ruqaiyya's actions.
'In the Mughal Sultanat, it does not befit a king to raise his sword on a woman!' Ruqaiyya explains. He looks away. She continues 'And that too on an innocent lady!' (The ta-dah moment!)
Jalal is not ready to believe this - what with Jodha just having confessed!
However, Ruqaiyya continues confidently 'Jodha Begum might have had other reasons for uttering this lie'
Soon after, Jodha quietly leaves the room on Ruqaiyya's insistence for privacy. Once alone, Ruqaiyya begins explaining that the culprit was close to him - that he wouldn't believe her - etc etc
'Stop talking in riddles' he shouts impatiently
However, she has to take the proper route - Show him the dibbi first - then explain all about the dibbi-waala - how she suspected the kesar must have been poisoned - where she found it etc etc
'Who is it?' he asks finally running out of patience (as did many of us viewers!)
'Salima Sultan' š²
'Jalal can't believe his ears' (I could't believe mine eitherš²! The poor thing is being framed! Another unexpected twist!)
Apparently, Ruqaiyya had found the dibbi with the arkh in Salima's chamber when she'd gone to visit an ailing Salima the previous day!
Though both Ruq-Jalal are disheartened that their very own relative (and that too a very respectable one at it) could do this to them, Ruq explains to Jalal numerous reasons why Salima could have done this
'Your begums are all useless' Ruq concludes 'Salima kills and Jodha lies' š¤£ for some strange reason, Jalal seemed to be only stuck on the JODHA bit!
Jalal-Jodha
Now, I am convinced that Jalal is OBSESSED WITH JODHA! Despite learning about the latest twist wrt Salima, he still seemed more annoyed that Jodha lied to him. Now that he knows the truth (or so we think!), he still didn't bother going to question Salima first, he went to Jodha to question why she lied to him! Which is a bigger crime Shehenshah?
'Why did you lie to me that you're the murderer?' he roars 'You've lied to the shehenshah of the Mughal Sultanat! Don't you respect my status?'
''I' am the one who has no importance in your life' she replies heavy-heartedly 'You have played with my life...my emotions...this wedding is a joke after all' she goes on 'I was not a wife to you...you treated me like a slave...every instance you could, you've ridiculed my sentiments...you falsely implicated me of spoiling your food...then you blamed me
for the death of this child...you imprisoned my brothers...then, forced them to come to war...killed my sister's fiance...and all of this was a joke ..a play to you...'
While Jalal watches on in silent displeasure, Jodha pauses for a moment - her voice shaky 'What could be worse humiliation for a lady than her own husband arresting her and placing her in confinement?'
Finally, we got to hear Jodha spout all the bitterness that had been bottled up within her!
Jalal had started off with a frown that reflected his rage - however, by the time she'd ended her monologue, his frowns had turned to something else altogether! Something that happens when you look at a mirror and don't like what you see!
