I so did not like Barkha today (not that she has been great to date but today she took the cake). The way she was using emotional blackmail to get Nikhil to do what she wanted. She was doing well at the beginning with her reasoning for why Nikhil should send Lajo back (not that I agreed with it) but then she starts saying that because of him their Izaat, reputation, Aishya's marriage, the whole family could suffer because of his decision. Her wedding could be cancelled because of you she said. Then the worst...

Because of you your brother lost his life, now at least don't ruin your sister's life...
She then goes on to say that I do love you and if you love me even a little you'll send her back. Then for her grand finale ...your father thinks I'll never forgive you but I will. Just do this for me and I'll forgive you for everything...

For once I am with Nani in that Barka should not have used those tactics to try and get Nikhil to listen to reason. Emotional blackmail was definitely not the way to go...Poor Nikhil 😭 smiling when thinking about when his mom said "you think I don't love you...but I do love you..." That poor boy has been longing for his mother's love for years and that right there could be the deciding factor in Nikhil sending Lajo back. He has thirsted for his mom's love and forgiveness for years and finally it is in his grasp.

I didn't like what she did either! She used her most powerful weapon and the saddest part wast that she didn't actually mean it.
Even if Nikhil will send Lajjo back to her village, she will not truly forgive him. I will take a lot more for her to realize what a good son she has and how unfair she was with him in all these years.

Very true! That is just one of her bargaining chips that she has put on the table to intice her son to do her will. She won't actually mean it as if she did really mean it she would have forgiven him a long time ago (not that she had any reason to forgive him as is was an accidental death and he was not responsible).

Exactly what I was thinking. Their interactions to date have been minimal at best, which is one of the reasons I am always surprised that she gets along with Ishaana so much. I would have thought, with the way she behaves towards him, that that would be projected outward towards Ishaana as well but that is so not the case. Very surprising.😲

She is the epitome of what we call a "bad mother".

She hit him where it hurt. But look on the bright side, at least she did that. At least she spoke to him. She may never forgive him but at least she gave him that hope. You know something funny? Today for the first time, I felt she loved him. I wrote the following in another post before I saw the episode:
I mean this woman who is Nikhil real mother spends ten years blaming him for the death of his brother. She goes on to ignores his very existence entirely and then suddenly out of the blue agrees to forgive him for killing his own brother. A death that was never a murder just a childhood mistake - one Nikhil was merely a witness to!

So now Barkha will play the trump card and offer Nikhil the two things he has always craved - forgiveness and redemption. However, ironically, she doesn't think this is in anyway betraying the memories of her dead son, is in a way even capitalising on a family tragedy. How pathetic!

Moreover, how could she, being Nikhil's mother, not realise how his brother's death tears him up inside and that deserting Laajo now would have the same exact effect on him??!! She's just replacing his one guilt with another while trying to salvage her family status and image!
But now I disagree.

While I agree that her tactics may have not been correct and her reasons may not be entirely for Nikhil, some part of it was. And that is a HUGE step forward from the complete indifference Barkha has shown for Nikhil.

In a way, she is letting go of Akash's memories to ensure Nikhil has a better future. It's all a matter of perspective. I don't think she is going to forgive him overnight but for to even consider the possibility is far more of a progress than there has been in over a decade.

We all know Laajo isn't going to go back. We all know Nikhil is better than that but for Barkha to stoop so low as to emotionally blackmail her son to save his future (and the family reputation) shows a concern for him that we haven't ever seen so far in the show.

When she talks to her mother, she talks about his studies, his future, his age - she talks about Nikhil and she does this because she does love him. Like I said before, she knows the guilt would eat him inside that's why she gave him such a huge ultimatum. So how does that make her a good person? Because I honestly think Barkha believes Nikhil would be unhappy with Laajo in the long run because they aren't the right fit in an obvious manner.

I love the reasoning you gave😊 and I always enjoy reading your "take" on the character traits/personalities of each of the characters but I think for now (until I can see more proof of this love for Nikhil) I will still dislike her as a mom. As I mentioned if she had kept on with her reasoning in the way she started her convo with him (ie, different class, need to further your education, having not hing in common yadda yadda) then I would totally be on the same boat as you but for now I think she is totally doing this for herself and her perceived social status. If she had nothing to lose or thought that no one would say "boo" about Lajjo then I think she would not have stepped in so forcefully. I mean truly, do you think she's ready to forgive Nikhil after holding him responsible for 10 years? I think it was all a tactic to get him to do her bidding and until I see some further proof I will still say she is one selfish character (I could be totally wrong though and may be siding with you in the future😆😉)
