She hit him where it hurt. But look on the bright side, at least she did that. At least she spoke to him. She may never forgive him but at least she gave him that hope. You know something funny? Today for the first time, I felt she loved him. I wrote the following in another post before I saw the episode:
I mean this woman who is Nikhil real mother spends ten years blaming him for the death of his brother. She goes on to ignores his very existence entirely and then suddenly out of the blue agrees to forgive him for killing his own brother. A death that was never a murder just a childhood mistake - one Nikhil was merely a witness to!

So now Barkha will play the trump card and offer Nikhil the two things he has always craved - forgiveness and redemption. However, ironically, she doesn't think this is in anyway betraying the memories of her dead son, is in a way even capitalising on a family tragedy. How pathetic!

Moreover, how could she, being Nikhil's mother, not realise how his brother's death tears him up inside and that deserting Laajo now would have the same exact effect on him??!! She's just replacing his one guilt with another while trying to salvage her family status and image!
But now I disagree.
While I agree that her tactics may have not been correct and her reasons may not be entirely for Nikhil, some part of it was. And that is a HUGE step forward from the complete indifference Barkha has shown for Nikhil.
In a way, she is letting go of Akash's memories to ensure Nikhil has a better future. It's all a matter of perspective. I don't think she is going to forgive him overnight but for to even consider the possibility is far more of a progress than there has been in over a decade.
We all know Laajo isn't going to go back. We all know Nikhil is better than that but for Barkha to stoop so low as to emotionally blackmail her son to save his future (and the family reputation) shows a concern for him that we haven't ever seen so far in the show.
When she talks to her mother, she talks about his studies, his future, his age - she talks about Nikhil and she does this because she does love him. Like I said before, she knows the guilt would eat him inside that's why she gave him such a huge ultimatum. So how does that make her a good person? Because I honestly think Barkha believes Nikhil would be unhappy with Laajo in the long run because they aren't the right fit in an obvious manner.
