CM Modi is Mallika's ideal man
A still from the show
Mallika Sherawat, at the launch of the new television series Bachelorette India " Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika revealed that her Mr Right would look a lot like Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. "He is smart, progressive and misunderstood " just like me," she says, explaining her choice.
The show is on the lines of its previous editions Rakhi Ka Swayamvar and Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega. It will document Mallika's hunt for her life partner. The oldest bachelor vying to tie the knot with Mallika, is a 65-year-old man, she tells us. "He is among the finalists in fact. He wooed me by gifting me my favourite books. But he is more like a guide and philosopher. I don't think I'll marry him," she says.
The actress has her reasons for signing up for a show with such a bold format. She says, "In India, especially in the North, girls are not encouraged to choose their life partner. I want to inspire girls to do so."
The actress recently received flak for calling India "regressive" and "a society where women are at the bottom" during an interview with an international magazine at the Cannes Film Festival. But that hasn't deterred her from sticking to her stance. She reasserts, "Our society is regressive for women. Rapes happen everyday and women are treated like objects. Those who say India is progressive are hypocrites."
Mallika rues that she hasn't received her due recognition in her home ground. "I am doing a film called Dirty Politics and it's a strong role, but offers like these come once in a while. Otherwise I am offered films like Welcome," says the actress who is proud to be known as a woman who speaks her mind. "I am not one of those jo apne aap ko deviyan dikhati hai. I am honest, but people don't seem to appreciate that. It's not like that in the West. There, people appreciate me for it. But I am thankful to my critics as well. Had it not been for them, actors would have gotten lazy," she admits.
Mallika is clear that she doesn't want to marry anyone in the film industry and hence hasn't been linked to anyone from the fraternity. "I want to marry a simple man " the kinds I don't meet in the industry. I am surrounded by millionaires, but I'm not interested in them. I am tired of this fake, make-believe world. I want a real man and true love."
