I haven't made this thread 2 bash D:3, if u read it i am disappointed coz of YRF making it NON-HOLIDAY, while they could have made it biggest with HOLIDAY easily.

REaDY on a Non-Holiday made more than Ghajini day 1 holiday release, Dabangg 2 Non-Holiday Day 1 was biggest when released, Dabangg, BG, ETT day 1 would have less than the original figures surely if they have landed on NON-HOLIDAY.

and talaash (non holiday, non comedy, non masala) made more than ready on its opening day and weekend - but THAT'S NOT the point of this thread as you rightly point out and its about D3 and YRF - That's where ETT comes up (even i didn't brought that up someone else did and i was just taking it as an example to show how well YRF planed/worked that out) - It wasn't aamir v/s salman, it was yrf vs yrf on ETT and D3 releases 😆


Now lets get back to ETT it did 150+ cr in the extended week 1 and did just 40 cr in the rest of its run(no competition in 2nd week also) that clearly indicates a collapse because it wasn't liked. Now let's say its released on ramzan as you wanted then it would still open with a record(couple of cr more may be) but without the extra independence day holiday benefit it would have ended up with much lower number - that's what I am trying to say and why i say YRF planned its release very well.

Now getting to your Ready number, see, it wasn't a holiday release and yet it was second only to Dabangg with just a crore or two difference (mind you ready wasn't liked as much as Dabangg).

Similarly as you point out, you have dabangg 2 (which was even less liked than ready) and then YJHD (with less than 1000 prints compared to dabangg 2 collected almost similarly or more,depending on whom one believes)

After looking at those numbers for Ready,Dabangg 2 and YJHD it should have struck anyone with a minimum sense on BO that - A big anticipated movie with huge hype n biggest release will do 'big' whether its holiday or not on its opening day if ITS LIKED (at the max a holiday could give it a 1-2 cr advantage but that doesn't matter in long run.

With a Friday release YRF/D3 are going the CE way (day 1 will be huge and then you have sat and sun following) - means a great weekend without a holiday. Talaash with its poor wom was 13 cr short of the top opening weekend then, even if D3 repeats the same it would be (86+cr) non holiday weekend record by a mile(previous best 62). And unlike talaash if its liked and beats the opening week record then all hell will break loose in media which would give it a great push on Wednesday Christmas holiday.

Now imagine if its released on Wednesday, even if it is liked there will be drop and the three days number will be low compared to the three days numbers if its released on Friday (it will be followed by a bad press that it didn't beat XYZ blah blah, that it has dropped big blah blah)). I hope you now get it why they are going for a Friday release. With a Friday release(assuming its liked) they are going for 1. opening day record 2. opening week record and 3. lifetime ⭐️

Regarding the topic , Probably Aamir & YRF know what they are thinking ,3 weeks clear run will be good , even if they dnt get huge numbers on the first weekend.
I just hope the movie is entertaining , Dhoom 2 bored the shit out of me 🥱
