Also, it has to be a lil publicized coz it is an auction. right. It's a formal event that will take place in London.

It's not like a private donation. It's holding an auction.
Saif's family hosts it. It's for the hospital Tiger Eye Hospital, which I'm guessing has a connect to his father.

IMO, its not her own bought stuff. yes, at present it belongs to her. but it must have been either gifted to her by the producer or she herself kept it. n auctioning gifted stuff feels weird n cheap to me especially bcoz the money is going to Tiger Eye Hospital, which i m also guessing has a connect to his father n thus even more personal cause.

But you're missing the point.
What will generate more money?
Do you think people will be more interested to buy any random saari Kareena wears?
Or the saari she wore in THE CHAMMAK CHALLO song. There's a difference. These things generate more value. It'd be silly to auction off something that doesnt have the brand value that is attached to something people will pay more money to buy.

Kareena does do charity. She donates. There's an old age home she once mentioned her mother had always encouraged to support.
But when it comes to auction, you wanna sell something that will generate the most amount of money.

In a way, this chammak challo saari probably has more value to her than all her other saaris combined. It's got memories attached of one of her most successful songs.

How easy would it be for Kareena to just auction off her own clothes? She's rich. She'll just replace em. What's the big deal.

If I'm a die hard bolly fan with a shit ton of money (as there are many) why would I be interested in buying some random saari a star might have worn or has? No, I want THE saari XYZ wore in THE song.

u think the red saree will get as much amount had it been worn by any other not-so-popular actress? no...its gonna get it coz of kareena factor. n for me any other of her personal item / garment will also fetch plenty. why not auction personal items for a very personal cause.

Again, yes it is because of Kareena, but it's also coz it's in a well known setting.
Both factors come together.
Yes what Kareena wears might have some value. But what Kareena wears ONSCREEN, in POPULAR songs has exponentially more value.

I mean we can do a poll or something. What has more value, Kareena's regular clothes, or Kareena's glamorous clothes in popular dance numbers.

Kareena Kapoor wala red is dictating fashion trends
by Rubina A Khan Oct 7, 2011

Kareena Kapoor seems to own a fiery red of her own " the red haute sari she wears in the Chammak Challo song sung by Akon in the upcoming Diwali release Ra.One. But naturally, since Kareena is Bollywood's reigning heroine " and since Bollywood dictates fashion and makeup trends in India " fashion forwards want to own this particular red this season, no other will do " only the Kareena Kapoor wala red! She definitely does not need a Twitter account to be "followed" - her onscreen presence is enough to cause a fashion following of her very own, and bet you anything, she knows that too. Mumbai's most affable and jet-setting glamazon, Roopa Fabiani, has turned to red after watching the Chammak Challo song. "It is that time of the year again when warmer colours dominate your moods. Kareena looks so good in that red haute colour that it makes everyone want to wear red, including me! For the festive season, I have asked my favourite designers, Neeta Lulla, Suneet Varma and Rohit Bal to make me some outfits in the Kareena Kapoor wala red," laughs Roopa. It is not just the fashion forwards in India who are favouring the red, but those on the island of Mauritius are too. Raju Shelar/Firstpost Samidha Wanganoo, a fashion stylist for Bollywood films who is currently working on Agent Vinod, that stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, patiently hears out people requesting her for the Kareena red every day. "The way Kareena carries off the red sari, it makes people want to wear it more. Red is a fiery colour and a very bold one too, so it is not an easy colour for anyone and everyone to pull off. Every day, since the Chammak Challo song came out, I am asked by women to make them look like Kareena in the song! They ask me to either get them an outfit just like Kareena's in the exact shade or get them anything in that shade of red. It is insane how Kareena has caused a sort of fashion hysteria with her little red sari in the song. Everyone wants to wear red! It makes the haute black look so redundant now," says Samidha. But Sangita Kathiwada, creative director of Morarka Foundation and her store in Mumbai, Mlange, that houses some of the best designer labels in India, is not quite convinced Kareena has anything to do with the colour, though she does think saris will sell after the Chammak Challo song. She says:

see, if the film producer use that saree for auction its fine. then i can see ur point of (film+hit song) saree adding more value. here, i dont like the idea of using lifted/gifted items for PERSONAL CAUSE. if she wants to generate more money for a good cause, auction 2 personal items instead of one on screen item. i m sure, she has plenty of valuables with close attachment or one having a personal story. why use one such item for charity which u urself havent even paid for 😕

n dg90, on a lighter note, i neither scored good in essay writing in school nor did the best for reference collecting for paper publication 😛

Some more info about the auction.
It's the other way around.
You conduct the auction in a first world country, and donate that money to the poor in the poverty stricken third world country.

LONDON: Bestselling British author Jeffrey Archer, an avid follower of cricket and a big fan of the late Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, will conduct an auction next month on behalf of the Pataudi Trust to raise money for the blind in India.

The actor Sharmila Tagore, Pataudi's widow, and her entire family " son Saif Ali Khan, daughter-in-law Kareena Kapoor, daughters Saba and Soha Ali Khan " will be in London for the auction at Mayfair Hotel. "Lord Archer is a keen follower of cricket and has been a great admirer of Tiger," Tagore told TOI. "When Tiger died, he wrote admirable pieces on him. A short story in his book 'A Quiver Full of Arrows', a collection of 12 stories, had one on Tiger. He, therefore, readily agreed to carry out the auction."

Among cricketing memorabilia to be auctioned to raise funds for the Venu Eye Institute that runs an eye hospital in Pataudi, Haryana, will also be a bat signed by the Champions Trophy-winning Indian cricket team, a ball signed by Anil Kumble and a bat autographed by Rahul Dravid. What will surely be a showstopper at the auction will be the bid for a T-shirt belonging to and signed by arguably the world's best footballer, the Argentine and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

"An earring designed by me will be auctioned," said Saba, Tiger Pataudi's youngest daughter, who was recently designated as the custodian of the Pataudi Trust that takes care of huge properties spread from Bhopal to Saudi Arabia. "We want to raise funds for the visually impaired and help the blind." A special watch belonging to Saif and one of Kareena's favourite saris will also be auctioned. Fashion brand Burberry is giving its signature trench coat for the auction.

So, is any object belonging to Tiger also going under the hammer? "Not in this auction," said Tagore. "Earlier I had given a blazer from Tiger's first and last Test to [the actor] Rahul Bose, who auctioned it to raise funds for his charity."

The family said: "The Pataudi family has undertaken many philanthropic initiatives since patriarch Mansoor Ali Khan's demise two years ago. They have established a trust in his name to contribute towards various social causes. The initiative we are working on currently is a fundraiser dinner, which will take place in London."
