if people have started banning smoking/ smoking ads, then it's again because of powerful market/ political forces at work. folks have not suddenly decided to legislate against or ban such advertisements out of the goodness of their heart. there are strong lobbies and money interests, and if smoking has been banned, then somehow it again comes down to what people want. no getting around that in a democracy, specifically what people want. lots of things you or i may not like in our respective democracies, but i'd rather have people being able to pursue legit profit motive than have some herr goebbels sitting somewhere deciding what news or advertisement i need to hear. also, if our livelihoods depended on those tobacco farms and ads, i am not sure how much we'd be whining about those ads 😊

in any case, i was hoping we'd have a bigger policy debate than a campaign about smoking ads 😊

In Democracy one gets to choose what they want to do, If it is not illegal, Govt has no right in censoring such things, that is choosing to be a dictatorship/communist while still under the pretense of Democracy😉

But we in India tend to do it more than "other" democracies thanks to the legacy of "you know who"😃
