Can you explain more -- I am trying to explain this to my son, he is a sort of cunning individual, and I am trying to tell him that he has to be street smart and be able to accomplish his goals on the straight and narrow without resorting to his cunningness.

All cunning people are quite smart.
All smart people are not cunning.

There is a thin line between the two.

Suppose your husband always criticises you for not bargaining, for being a fool, for being stupid etc.
You buy something really good for Rs.1000 but will tell your husband that you got it for Rs.200 only. That is a sort of smartness. Because your husband is an unreasonable fellow. he deserves it.
If you buy something for Rs.1000 in a deal and sell it to your neighbour for Rs.1200 it is cunningness when you are not a professional business person. Or you flick off some towels from a hotel.😆

Well - they showed ganga reading the meanings yesterday in her little translation dictionary.

I couldn't pick the kannada words what it he said before calling mannu maharaj. Jana means people. Is it jnana (knowledge)?

My translation of daksh was correct

I asked my father to see the video (fluent kannada speaker who currently lives in Mangalore 😆)

He said that the word was "JaaNA" (with a hard na -- like praan)

Jaana means like a wise-ass or a smartypants. 😆

The hindi equivalent is "shaana" (also with a hard na)

'Bahut shaana hai. '

shaana is present in Marathi and gujarati language.

Like "dedh daaya" (1.5 times wise/oversmart person)

When ganga read the dictionary, she did not say "sachcha" she said "saksham" which means highly competent.

He was telling her she is a smarty pants (teasing her). 😆
