In this specific case – I would say lack of healthy gender socialization in India.

Most guys and girls are really not taught how to interact with each other, especially when it comes to romantic or sexual interest. We also have a culture of chase and conquest. Men feel that they need to chase a girl. It becomes a big matter of ego if the girl is not receptive to their advances.

This is a broad topic and an important one for helping us understand people.

Definitely what the guy did deserves to be condemned. But how could he have been helped before it was too late? What was his point of view? He was having low self-esteem. If the girl rejected him, the best course for him was not to get disturbed and move on with life. That would be possible if he had known is his worth being in the Earth. And when he believes he deserves to be loved and valued and he has a lot to offer for this World because he has divine essence within him. But who would have tried to understand him?

One painful thing in the society or the college a guy has to face when a girl spurns his proposal is some ridicule from those who are his friends and this behavior severely hurts a person mentally. If he knew, they all ridicule him because of their inferiority complex and not because of him, he could have felt better.

Whether a person is male or female, what each person has to be inculcated since he/she is very young is he/she deserves to be loved, valued, understood and accepted. And that is how he/she is brought up, his/her behavior in the society will also be admirable. He/she will be a caring, compassionate, gentle, tender and understanding person to others. Instead if he/she is brought up being bullied, ridiculed and abused, he/she would have no sense of value that way and he/she will behave in an antisocial way.

Of course one area which comes here is our society does not have a sense of healthy interaction between a male and female, whether in the college or when a person is young. Parents normally discourage interaction with opposite sex persons outside the home. if only any boy and a girl interact with each other like interacting with brother/sister it makes a better place. In fact that is how God wants us to be. One has to improve his/her qualities of being a more caring, compassionate, gentle, tender and understanding person whoever he/she is interacting with whether it is a male or female. But then people with a lot of fear and this is not happening.

The girl may have spurned this guy due to her own family pressures or any other reason. how could he have known that?

At the core of the problem is the male mindset in India. Indian society still needs to learn that women are not different from men and ofcourse ndian men must learn to take NO as an answer. Ego and love don't go together. Taking 'no' for an answer reflects not just maturity, but also respect for the other person and proper grooming.

Pearl Jam meets Dostoyevsky. 😉

Seriously though this is the height of pathetic. That poor girl...in that society, her rejecting his proposal led to that? It does remind me of men who attack women they can't have with acid. Cowardly and just a blatant disregard of someone's own humanity. If you wanna take your own life do it? Why inflict such a nightmare on a poor, innocent person?

It sounds like she's disfigured...knowing the way people are she'll probably be deemed not worthy of marriage. He got his wish.

Education system teaches us how to be an excellent worker but not how to be a good human ,this is why such things continue.

Aravind, Education system cannot teach anyone to be a good human being. Anyone becomes a good understanding human being if he is brought up in an atmosphere in which he is accepted, trusted and valued. If he is tense and anxious about the acceptance of his parents and teachers always, it is painful to him and he tries to show his pain to others especially who all on a sudden refuses to love him. How many teachers are understanding to the students? When I was young, I was terrorized by teachers who used to beat students for no reason. What sort of morality they can show to students?

Note: I am not here justifying what the boy did. He definitely deserves to be condemned. But I will say the society will be a better place if people are understanding, gentle and compassionate to each other.

They don't respect life. Not theirs, not the other person's. Such people come from way back, they have psychological issues that don't get diagnosed in time or something. This ain't love. It's just trying to prove some ridiculous point. 😳
