While surfing to search for infidelity statistics to post in another thread, I tumbled on this PLATONIC love blog by chickybabe. I wanted to share it with you all and learn how you felt about this concept.

Platonic Love

"Do you believe in platonic relationships?"

"Do platonic relationships only exist in the absence of physical attraction?"

"Is platonic love seen as the last resort when nothing else is possible?"

QTbabe also has 2 questions to add to chickybabe's 😉 😆

"Do you think shy people could harbour such feelings more than those who easily mingle"

"If there is no sexual aspect to it, then how is it MORE than a CLOSE FRIENDSHIP?"

Platonic Love is a very matured concept, infact I mentioned about this in one of my post pertaining to love.I don't remember the post name but I think this concept is really a matured concept .

This should'nt be mixed with friendship.because there are several silly films which say "friendship is love and love is friendship".

Platonic love is not in our reach because we may dilute that serene concpet .In these days of freethinking where "Nishabdh" is also possible ,platonic love is beyond our mids.

Haah! Friendship, relationship with elders ,friendship between people of same gender -all these concpets are misused these days.So better not to speak much on those misused things.

Cheers,

Mythili

Is it that deep really?? That is what I am beginning to question! One can have a fabulous relationship with another human being, and love the person, without giving it a name such as Platonic.. It sounds like a cover up to me.

So what I share with Maya is love and intelectual bonding. Although we are both very awesome, we are straight and hence not attracted to each other. I just say "I love Maya". I don't say we share a platonic love 🤢 🤢 🤢
Even when the gender is opposite, I will easily say the same thing. Let us take an example of a very close friend of mine. "I love him" Withoubt a doubt and will never have a physical relation with him .. but he is not my platonic lover 🤢 🤢 What the hell is that.. it really sounds like a cover up to me, more than DEEP.

Radha- Krishna did not have a platonic relationship. It was still deep what they shared.
Meera, on the other hand could have considered Krsihna as a platonic lover? Enlighten me someone if I am wrong, because I could be. But then, what other option did Meera have? That brings me back to chickybabe's thoughts.
Is it "deeply philosophical" & hence not for shallow mind of qt / Is it a cover up of something that people want but can't have....

I will see you back unless Mr. Maya kills me for the above stated confession😆

😲 QT, what is going on? Do you want me to take a break from IF too😉😆? Now jokes apart and coming to the actual topic

A friend is a better term. I am not comfortable with the word Platonic relationship either. Platonic relationship by definition means an affectionate relationship between people of opposite sexes without the sexual desire. But you can have the same relation with good friends without giving it a name. Now thinking from a different point of views I think Platonic term was coined to clear the doubts in people's mind about male-female relationship. They can be good friends but there is always a high chance of relationship evolving into something else. I do feel that opposite sex friendships require more work than same sex friendships.

Now coming to the mythological examples you gave. I don't think Radha-Krishna had platonic relation. They were very much in love. But Meera on the other hand was a Krishna Bhakt (in modern terms we can call it obsession😆) and considered him her true love. That was not platonic either because Krishna didn't reciprocate her love or didn't consider her as a friend. She was only a bhakt.

Now that brings me to another question. If someone doesn't reciprocate your love or friendship then is it right to pursue that person. Isn't that obsession?

Staying on the topic of Krishna Bhakt Meera, the poetess Kamala Das which egghatcher mentioned in another post used to love Krishna in the same way. She used to call herself Krishna's dasi and almost like Meera she used to write poetry confessing her love to the Lord. But one fine day when she converted to Islam she moved all those idols to a different place and started writing the same poetry only now addressed to Allah. 😊
