Mission V-Day for upbeat Shiv Sena
After basking in the glory of their recent BMC victory, Shiv Sena has now set its sights on Valentine's Day.
Or how to spoil it, that is. In keeping with what has almost become a Sena tradition, the party wants to ensure there are no Valentine's Day celebrations across the city. With just over a week left until V Day, phase 1 of their mission has begun.
"We have mobilised the youth of the Sena and have asked them to tell students across colleges not to celebrate this Western concept of Valentine's Day. Our workers have begun advising shop-owners not to stock Valentine Day paraphernalia. We will first try to convince people, if they don't follow, then we will deal with it in our own way," said Arun Dudwadkar, the Shiv Sena vibhag pramukh, South Mumbai.
The North Mumbai Vibhag Pramukh Vinod Ghosalkar said it was an obvious rule in the Sena that the V-Day celebrations would be opposed. But a Sena worker said the party will tread carefully. Last year, it was criticised after it attacked a party in Nallasopara.
The Sainiks barged into a prayer meeting and allegedly assaulted people, including women. "This year, the activity could be limited to tearing posters and verbally warning shop owners and organisers," said the worker.
MNS has decided not to oppose or support Valentine's Day. "It's undemocratic to force our views on other individuals, so we will not oppose the day. However, we also don't support it," said Shirish Parkar, MNS spokesperson. www.mid-day.com

It clearly mentions that if they don't listen then the party workers will DEAL with them. This is not new. Last year some were even beaten for carrying Valentine's Day paraphernalia.

What is wrong in celebrating a day dedicated to love even if it is an alien concept? We welcome New Year hosting parties and popping Champagne bottles. Even the Shiv Sena head's DIL is associated with such parties. These hoodlums will trouble only the middle class and College kids.

All I can say-an infantile attempt to gather attention.
The party needs to grow up a bit if it thinks it can be taken seriously by the janta.
Tania, many do take this party's such uncivilized policies seriously. I wish they could concentrate their party resources and energy towards better things than resorting to such fanatic activities.

people going overboard with exaggerated V Day celebrations and irrational behaviour
What is irrational behaviour? Carrying Valentine's Day paraphernalia? Giving roses and gifts? Going out for dinners? At least these people don't call for Bandhs and Hartaals and disrupt daily lives by doing such things.

But somehow many couple do think they have to go out of their way to prove their love just because it's Valentine's day. Seen it in my hostel too.

People should have the freedom to do waht they want and this cannot be termed as a western influnce. Don't Shiv Sena workers go to malls and buy "western" brand name stuff? What happens to their Indianness then?Does it go and hide in the mall's restrooms?😆
