While Chennai Express has grossed more, it had the advantage of Eid, Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. YJHD on the other hand was a non-holiday release. Which is more impressive?

I'd say YJHD. I for one certainly didn't expect it to do as well as it did. It was definitely as surprising as Himmatwala tanking so bad. 😆

YJHD...because a Shahrukh or a Salman or Aamir starrer is expected to do what CE did...but Ranbir almost made a joke of these three superstars is what I find impressive...

When YJHD came almost close to ETT but couldn't beat it...I kept on reading cheers tht it couldn't beat ETT by some 10 odd crores...I was like..are u guys serious...a kal ka chokra made almost as much as the 25 year old veteran superstar and u guys are having a jashn because its 10 cr less...😆...Ranbir's 188 cr = 250 cr by any Khan😆

YJHD .It was a non holiday release unlike CE/ETT.

YJHD expected it do around 95cr bt it end up doing 179cr(BOI)

Chennai expected to do around 165cr(BOI) bt will end up doing around 205cr

so YJHD is much bigger surprise

Absolutely Chennai Express!!!

How many of you can honestly say you expected ANY more than 180 from this film??

No doubt Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwaani was superb but Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 was nowhere touted as big of a competition as Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbaai Dobara was to Chennai Express.

For Chennai Express to actually live up AND exceed the masala genre expectations, and surpass 3 Idiots record, its outstanding and unexpected!
