Finally! IMO, MIDs and trolls are the biggest problems on IF. I hope IF keeps working harder in blocking proxies and keeping all MIDs off the forum.
Here are a few additional suggestions. I hope you consider implementing which is practical and feasible.
- Priority level on reports ' Whenever we hit report, there should be a drop down button on which IF rule was violated. Mods should see reports grouped in categories. High priority should be given to harassment, derogatory language etc. Lower priority to spam and minor infringements.
- Auto-lock topics ' Moderators cannot always be around. Sometimes abusive topics carry on for pages before a moderator can take action. If a topic reaches a certain threshold for reports ' it should be automatically locked and flagged for mod review. This should prevent issues from escalating until a mod can be around.
- Auto-suspend members ' If a member hits a threshold of reports on their posts in a period of time, their account should be auto suspended. This should happen faster if the reports are for derogatory posts or language. A DT member will reactivate the account after issuing required warnings. This will prevent members from playing fast and loose thinking they have a lot of room to play with.
- Formal Appeals Review Board ' Moderators can be biased. It is human nature. Sometimes they are a bit too harsh with bans. Allow members to elect a ban review board that consists of a 5-6 DT Mods and CMS and 1-2 peer reviewers. A banned member will have one month access to post in a special appeals section. Here they can make a post appealing against their ban and citing reasons. The review board will discuss the merits/demerits of the recent WLS and determine if the ban was harsh and should be overturned or member should merit a second chance. This way banned members do not need to make an MID and have a chance to argue their case if the ban is unfair. The appeals board should be reelected every year.
- Hall of Shame ' Sounds harsh and this may be unpopular and not feasible. But hear me out. A lot of times MIDs are regulars who choose to use MID to harass others, make mischief and cause chaos. Sometimes there is finger pointing and suspicion that creates a bad atmosphere in some sections. Each MID should be investigated and a list should be published of members and their associated MIDs that have been banned. This would discourage members from making MIDs for harassing or annoying others as they would be exposed soon enough.
