Chapter 6
Arnav had finished reading the story when he looked up to see the horrific faces of everyone which displayed their fear very clearly.
Suddenly, the lights on the ceiling started flickering... on, off, on, off. The doors of the rooms started opening and closing on their own accord.
Everyone's heads started looking around wildly, no one understanding what was happening and what would they do?
"KHUSHI, WATCH OUT!!" Jenna screamed looking behind Khushi with wide eyes.
Khushi's head whipped around to see the dining which was placed next to the kitchen wall, now floating up in the air and shooting towards her in the fastest speed possible, Khushi sat frozen with her eyes wide as she saw the table nearing her in ultimate speed.
"KHUSHI!!!" Arnav screamed jumping up from his seat and launching towards Khushi, he jumped on Khushi, taking her down with him. Arnav had twirled them at right them so his back landed on the cold, hard floor, missing the table with an inch.
"Take Cover!" Arnav commanded everybody else who now ran around the house like insects, looking for a safe place to hide. Khushi was still clutching onto Arnav for her life, her form was shivering in fear to what could have happened if Arnav hadn't jumped up to save her at the right time.
"Khushi, baby look at me, everything's gonna be fine. I promise!" Arnav slightly got up taking Khushi up with him who was still clutching onto him. He lifted Khushi up in his arms and ran towards the nearest place he figured out could be safe, behind the staircase.
"A..A..rn.av" Khushi took in a shaky breath before taking her head out of the cocoon of his neck.
"Ssshh...its okay" Arnav patted the back of her head to comfort her.
Arnav gave Khushi a quick peck on her hair before noticing someone crawling behind the couch and towards them. It was NK.
"Hey guys" NK smiled as he stood up from the floor and sighed in relieve.
"Hey guys? Hey guys is what you say now, in this situation?!" Arnav asked exasperated at
NK's calmness. If he was a second late something could have happened to Khushi but her he is all calm and saying 'Hey Guys'. This guy!
"Okay, we need to get out of here and up to my room safely. We'll discuss everything there, kay?" He asked NK who nodded wildly in response.
"I'll go and inform everyone else" Arnav rose his eyebrows as he saw NK crawl back behind a pillar and towards the other couple who seemed to be carrying a hardly concious Kate.
Arnav peaked his head out to check the situation in the living room, the slights were still flickering and now there was strong wind blowing things out of their places, it was almost like a storm inside the house which was totally different to the dead, silent night outside.
Arnav looking for a chance, started running with Khushi clutching his hand and running fastly to keep up with his speed. Arnav and Khushi were already half way up the stairs, dodging the little objects that were shooting towards them when suddenly Arnav froze, seeing him freeze Khushi popped her head out from his side to check, she could make the outlines of a white figure which stood on top of the stairs. Slowly, the figure started get clearer and more solid until she the same a hideous sight in front of her, it was of a bruised body in a ragged white dress with her thick black rough hair falling on the sides and her eyes were plain, bloodied white, her arms were hanging on the side and their was blood dripping from them. Khushi let out a small shriek as soon as she witnessed it.
Now they were stuck, they couldn't go back because that would just lead them to square one and then any chance of them escaping would vanish, they couldn't stay at the same position because of the dangerous objects flying around and they definitely can't keep moving cuz there was a friggin' ghost at the top just waiting for them!
Khushi was still in shock when she felt something collide to her, ready to scream, Khushi turned around, only to find NK and the rest of them standing shocked, their eyes jumping between the lady in white on the top of the stairs and their own position.
"E..Eli..za...Eliza...beth" Jenna stuttered in pure horror as her eyes turned impossibly wide. The figure's lips curved into a mean, wretched smile and her eyes glinted with something that sent a horrifying chill down the spine of everyone who was present there except Kate who was hardly aware of what was happening.
And as suddenly as she had appeared, she disappeared. After making sure the coast was clear, Arnav rushed up with his hand clutching Khushi's in a death grip, everyone followed him up. Arnav barged in through the closed doors of their room and after making sure that everybody had come in, Malcom shut the door tight and locked it. Little did he know that spirits didn't need the door to be opened for them to enter.
Jenna and Malcom gently laid Kate on one side of the bed before gasping out loud as they looked at the other side of the bed which was burnt. It looked like the frame of the bed from that side had melted. Everyone had now came by and seen that sight.
"That's where...I...I...found her" Arnav's body shook at thinking what would have happened if he hadn't gone down at the right time. Just as a sense of protectiveness enveloped him he harshly pulled Khushi in a bone crushong hug to surpress his fears about loosing her. Now, everyone had gotten busy with their partners and NK had closed his eyes and started thanking God for the lucky escape they had made. A few minutes later, Khushi broke the hug and cupped Arnav's face before giving him a quick peck on his lips in need to reassure him that she was fine. What could happen to her when he was there to save her? After a little time all the thanking and comforting subsided as everyone came back on the topic of 'How To Escape?'.
After Khushi quickly gave a look around the room, something outside the window caught Khushi's attention. She moved out of the talking circle to get a better look at it. Khushi figured out that it was something red glowing in the dense forest as she neared the window. Suddenly, Khushi felt a force pushing her and in no time Khushi crashed against the window, breaking the glass and she felt herself falling out of the window...
"AAAHHH!!!"
