CHAPTER-47.

Prithvi stood shocked still,as he saw the man raising the gun,and walking closer to them..It was either fight or flight,he decided..Not sure which route to take...

He had to think fast,Prithvi realized,as the man with the gun came nearer..Every passing second was vital now,as he had to protect Meera now..He was hesitating if to attack the man,when,he saw some movements behind the approaching man,and saw 3 more goons come out of the car,each holding something,that looked like a gun..

In that split second,Prithvi finally decided what to do..

Slowly he turned his head slightly,and whispered to Meera..

"Get ready to run,at the count of three!"He said to her urgently,and Meera as if in agreement,clasped his hand tighter..

"One..Two..Three!Run Meera!"Prithvi called as he started running pulling Meera along with him,and gun shots whizzed past them in every direction,as they ran into the jungle..

"GO AFTER THEM,YOU FOOLS!!!WHAT ARE YOU DOING STANDING HERE LIKE IDIOTS?!!"The man in the black attire snapped out,at the goons.

"Yes Boss!"They said unison and ran into the jungle,behind the two fleeing figures..

Twigs snapped under their feet,and branches and thorn scratched their skin,as they ran through the dark dripping jungle..Not a slither of light,entered the darkened jungle,as they kept running,both out of breath..Prithvi,who was taking the lead,finally decided to slow down a bit,after they had run for about 15 minutes,and seemed to have reached the deep jungle..So he stopped for Meera's sake,and took cover behind a tree,and pulled her close to him ..

He looked around,to make sure they had not been traced..The jungle was calm and wet,and the rain had stopped too..But thunder sounds still could be heard..All he could see was dry wet leaves and twigs on the ground,and trees surrounding them,so after ensuring they were safe for now,in the darkness,he turned to face her..

"Are you okay Meera?!"He whispered urgently.

"I..I.."Meera was panting so much that she could not even speak.

"Meera-"Prithvi stopped talking,when he felt he heard the sound of a twig snapping.

"Pri-"

"Shhshhh" Prithvi silenced her,by covering her mouth with his hand,and pulled her tighter,and closer to his body..

His ears completely alert now,he tried to listen more carefully,when he heard a twig snap and break down from a tree,and simultaneously an owl hooted and flew away.

Prithvi let out a sigh of relief,and turned to smile at Meera..

"It was an owl.."He told her softly,gently cupping her cheeks.He looked deeply into her wide eyes.She was pale and white as a paper,in shock from the incident.

"You don't have to worry about a thing as long as I am with you Meera..I will not let anything happen to you.."He promised her in a soft voice..

Meera did not reply,but instead leaned onto his body for support.Slowly Prithvi patted her back,and looked around.

"But we have to look for a safer place.."He murmured,when he felt he saw a light.."Wait here.."He whispered to her,and peeped out of the corner of the tree,and saw the men searching the jungle for them with torchlights.

Quickly Prithvi grabbed Meera,and indicated her to stay quiet,and pulled her into a tight embrace and lay on the hard and wet forest floor behind the tree..He quickly noticed,that even though his grey shirt,was wet dirty and unnoticeable in the dark,Meera's pink saree was glowing a little..Quicky he covered her body with his,and tried to cover themselves,with dry leaves and twigs as much as possible..

Slowly the crunching of leaves and twigs,came closer,as the men walked closer..The beam of torchlight falling on the surrounding trees..Prithvi tensed as they came closer..In other circumstances he would have fought back,but in this darkness,and with Meera with him he did not want to take the risk of fighting three armed men,and leave Meera unprotected..

The men were coming closer,and the beam of torchlight fell close to them,and suddenly Prithvi saw Meera's pink saree's achal highlighted by the light..Quickly,he pulled the cloth away,but the man throwing the light must have noticed it,as he kept throwing the light near them,and Prithvi got more tense,this time ready to fight them,if need be..

"Let's go!They have escaped!"Declared one goon.."And anyways,it's going to start raining again."Mutually they decided to leave,and Prithvi finally let out his held breath as he saw the torchlight fading,along with the fading footsteps..

He waited for sometime,to ensure they were gone,but Meera already impatient below him,pushed at him..

"Get up!They are gone!"She whispered out..

Slowly Prithvi got up,and pulled her up too..She quietly tried to clean herself unsuccessfully of the twigs and leaves stuck to her wet cloth and body,as Prithvi's eyes searched the surrounding for some shelter for the night..

"Come on Meera!"Prithvi said ,holding her hands tightly as he pulled her along,trying to get deeper into the jungle,for their safety..

They had walked half a mile,when Prithvi saw the clearing..The thunder sounds were really loud now.Quickly Prithvi quickened his steps,when he saw something that looked like a cottage,at the corner of the clearing.His heartbeat raced as he pulled Meera towards the old stranded looking building..

The first raindrops,started to fall, when they reached the cottage's door..

"Is someone there?!We needed help!Hello!"Prithvi called out knocking on the door,but no one answered..

Prithvi tried to push the door open,and it opened easily.The cottage looked truly stranded..

"No one lives here!We are all alone!"Meera said in an awed voice,and Prithvi turned to face her.

A loud thunder boomed the sky open,while at the same time,a strong gust of wind blew the cottage door shut.Thunder light lighted up the room,entering through the two windows in the small cottage..And in the flashes of lightning Prithvi could see her face staring up at him..Her mesmerizing face with those softly parted rosy lips...

Amazing chapter! I think there could have been more to it but it was still good! Loved the way he took charge despite having intense emotions for Meera ;) xD I mean all wet and tight embrace ...welll ;) mmhmm xD LOL Can't wait for the night! xD
