Bong on - Raima Sen
"Marriage should be handled with precision."

Raima Sen, the beautiful daughter of the gorgeous Moonmoon Sen and the grand daughter of legendary Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, has left the audience spell bound with her brilliant performances in movies like 'Daman', 'Chokher Bali ' and now 'Parineeta '.

In an exclusive interview Raima speaks about her life in Kolkatta, Bollywood, her relationships and much more.

What are the movies that you're working in right now?
My latest release is Parineeta wherein I play the role of a young girl named 'Koel'. 'Parineeta ' is based on a Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay classic and I am really looking forward to the response I get from it.
Then there's Anubhav Sinha's 'Dus' and also Ritu Parna Ghosh's 'Antarmahal' where I am playing Abhishekh Bachchan's wife.

By doing films like 'Chokher Bali ', 'Daman ', 'Parineeta ' and 'Antarmahal ', are you being selective of the films you want to do?
I would say that I am lucky to get roles like these, which have been milestones in my career so far.

'Chokher Bali ' was great as I saw the different shades of love through my character Ashalata. 'Parineeta ' also has its own subtle and not-so-subtle nuances that I feel will work out for me this time as well.

But, it's not that I don't want to do commercial films. In fact 'Dus ' is an out and out commercial film. Every actress wants to do different kinds of roles, ditto for me. I don't want to stay typecast.

Being the grand daughter of legendary Bengali actress, Suchitra Sen and daughter of Moonmoon Sen, what lessons in acting have you learnt from them?
I do get inspired and encouraged from both of them, but as far as acting skills are concerned, I feel I am a directors' actress. I do take advice from them especially from my mother on the roles and the films that I'm doing. But acting is my own genre.
Favourite actress: My grandmother
Favourite actor: Shahrukh Khan
I love: Chocolates and good food
I hate: Back stabbing
Love is: Something you'll know when you get into it!
People in Kolkata compare me with my grandma and expect me to be like her, which is really impossible. That's unfair. My grandmother acquired her reputation after so many good films whereas I've just started.
I have a separate identity and a separate style of working. Yes, I would want to be like her but because of my own talent.

What is the relationship you share with your mother?
My mom has been with me through thick and thin. I've learnt a lot from her. She has an amazing personality and a great sense of style. But apart from that she has managed to handle everything and that too efficiently. Though her career started after both of us were born, she took care of us as well as managed to do films. She's been an inspiration throughout and I look up to her for advice and guidance always. Besides helping me in my acting, we also talk about make-up, clothes, everything. She's really close to me.

How close are you and Riya?
We are as close as any two normal sisters. We are the best of friends. We talk about a lot of things... be it makeup, clothes, boyfriends. We really have a fun relationship. But at the same time we give each other space.
Of course we also talk about acting and films, as that's our common passion. Also, the kinds of films that we've done so far are strikingly different. So we also talk about our experiences and we advice each other.

How's it been staying alone in Mumbai?
Initially it was a little difficult. But then slowly and steadily we've liked Mumbai. We've got used to it now and my Mum and Dad keep visiting us. Mum has even sent a maid from Kolkata from our Nanny's house who looks after us. She ensures that we don't miss home-cooked food! So, staying in Mumbai is fun.

So, do you prefer Bollywood to Bengali films?
I don't think I would ever stop doing Bengali films as the people there want to see me more. They have accepted me in place of my grandma. In fact, they always compare me with her. The love the adulation that I've received there is really precious and so I would continue working in Bengali movies. Kolkatta is my home; my place and I would always stay connected with it.
Bollywood, on the other hand has its own charm and the films that I am working in right now are really good and satisfying for an actress. So, I'll prefer working in both mediums.

You said that 'Chokher Bali ' showed you the different shades of love. What does love mean to you?
Love is something, which you know only when you experience it. And the time you're in love, only then would you feel it and know about it. It's a very beautiful emotion; a wonderful feeling that changes your life completely.

And marriage?
Marriage is a sacred bond and needs to be handled with precision. I admire the way my Mom has managed her marriage and would want to be like her. I'll love getting married one day. I feel it's very important to get married as marriage gives a new meaning to your life. Its a lifetime bond and I guess I would like to get married in the next three or four years.

What are the qualities you're looking for in your dream man?
Well (smiles)! He should have a charming personality, though I would not give that much preference to looks. He should also have a great sense of humour. We both should be able to connect mentally and emotionally because that's what I feel is important in a relationship.
