| Upen Patel and Shamita Singha |
Now, they're back in the news for their nasty split and the model-turned-actor's shocking behaviour with Shamita at a Bandra hotspot earlier this week.
Apparently, Upen walked into the restaurant to Singha's table and started abusing her, after which he snatched the glass of wine from her hand and tossed the drink in her face.
Before the shocked model could react, he threw the glass to the floor and walked out. Shamita, who is still recovering from the ugly public showdown, confirms the incident, the break up with Upen and revels the true colours of the man she once loved.
The split
We had been together for over a year, but broke up in December. It was over for me and I thought it was time to move on.
The reason
I couldn't deal with his mood swings any longer. He has severe issues with controlling his temper. Not only is he short-tempered, but he also gets physically aggressive during those fits. He starts yelling, abusing, and behaving like a psychopath! I am a very mellow person, so it became really difficult for me to handle this sort of aggression. I called off our relationship when I realised it was getting too much.
Every relationship goes through problems and couples do fight, but we had them once too often. I remember once he was in a terrible mood and was yelling loudly at me. My sister was standing in the same room and after he left, she told me I shouldn't take this s**t from him.
The showdown
I was sitting with my friends and having dinner when Upen stormed in out of nowhere. It was clear that he hadn't moved on.
He was still bitter about the break-up. All of a sudden, he started yelling and hurling abuses at me. He kept screaming, "You've dumped me, but I still love you." I was really embarrassed because this was the first time he was doing this in front of the whole world. We had had fights before behind closed doors, but this had never happened in public.
I asked him to behave himself but before I could blink, he snatched my glass and threw the wine I was having in my face and broke the glass on the floor. I didn't know how to react and was in a state of shock. All my friends rushed to check on me, while Upen got into his car and sped away.
The aftermath
I feel really bad for Upen. My friends keep wondering how I can still have empathy for him but that's the way I am. He needs serious help because this will definitely have repercussions on his career. No self-respecting woman can stay with a man who doesn't know how to control his temper and behave in public. I still am recovering from the aftermath.
The conclusion
Luckily, I have great friends and family who are there for me.
