Chapter 3:

Angry words just left her lips realizing what he did, "WHAT THE HELL!"

And the door just missed her by a narrow gap and shut close with a bang……

Her words ceased….She fluttered her eyelids and shut it tightly by the impact of the bang…..

He ignored her anger……His left hand protectively held her by her waist and the other hand gripped her hand…..His eyes were fixed on her innocent pretty face…..but her eyes remained close!

Arjun couldn't believe what was happening…the girl to whom he was attracted just at the first sight was in his arms…..so close and intimate…..Was it really happening or was it just his imagination?

All of it looked like a dreamy trance and he wished that the time froze then and there….and the moment stayed still forever…..he knew he was thinking crazy and that too for a stranger girl about whom he knew absolutely except for her name!

But still he couldn't control his dreamy thoughts…..

But he soon came back to the reality and snapped out of the wandering thoughts when he felt her stir within his strong hold…..She was trying to break away from him…

Like a perfect gentleman, he took his hands off her……and by then, she had also realized that he had only saved her from a freak accident….If not for his timely intervention and help, she could have fallen out of the speeding train and yes, death would have swallowed her!

She was stammering for the right words to thank him….but then she managed to mutter quickly, "Thanks…"

He felt she would say something more but she just added another apology perhaps for yelling at him at first misunderstanding his intentions, "and Sorry!"

She looked at him for one long moment but her face was totally blank….their eyes met but he couldn't read anything from her eyes……The shallowness or the emotionless state of those eyes was just a faade to something more deeper and intense…..He was quick enough to realize that she wasn't just another next door girl! There was more to her…

She broke the eye contact and walked away…she was wondering why he had come there in the first place…..He had no reason to be at this side of the compartment at such a late time…..Was he stalking her? Was he some super hero to have come at the right time just to save her? The whole scene looked straight out of a movie….Her mind impulsively added an adjective to it but she instantly smacked herself "ROMANTIC, MY FOOT!!"

But she had to agree atleast to her own self that her otherwise clear mind was confused by this guy…. Perhaps for the first time, a guy's behavior confused her….Her logical mind scolded her as she sank back into the confines of the cozy blanket……

He waited till she disappeared into their bay and then opened the door…..He stood there enjoying the cool breeze that whiffed past his face making him feel ecstatic…..

He closed his eyes for a brief moment and what he saw in his mind stunned him…..In those moments, her face appeared before him…..the pretty face which he had been staring at buzzed across his mind…..It felt like some magic spell cast on him! Yes she was the one who cast that magic on his heart!

He opened his eyes wide in shock and then the shock wiped away and a smile crept up his lips!

He shook his head amused and surprised at his craziness….what all was he thinking about a stranger girl whom he just met a few hours ago….he hadn't even spoke to her once and he appeared smitten by her….

He wondered if this was love…..perhaps it was…may be he was getting the flavor of love for the first time in life!

But love?? He questioned himself…how could he fall in love? Then he explained to himself….love was always without a reason….if reasoned, then it wasn't love…it never could be love…Love was without logic and reason…It was beyond all boundaries…..

He realized how silly his thoughts were and instantly corrected his own stand, naah..it was just a liking he had developed…a curiosity towards a girl who seemed least interested in him…an attraction to a beautiful girl!

Well, it was much better to make himself believe that way…..A convenient way to deal with this strange situation because the reality was that it was a mere coincidence that they were on a train journey and when they reach Mumbai, they would part ways never to meet again…..He let out a deep breath…..

He locked the door shut and then walked back….

He didn't go up the berth but just sat at the foot of the lower berth opposite to her…..He saw her stirring in her sleep, muttering something, perhaps in her sleep and then she turned around to the opposite side to face the wall and pulled the blanket well over her head…..

He could see that even in her sleep, she was well conscious about herself and she constantly kept covering up well! Not even her toe nail was exposed out of the blanket!

He didn't want to add to her discomfort…he got up and ascended to his berth….

He slipped into deep sleep soon…..

A jolt as the train slowed down and stopped brought him out of the sleep….

He opened his eyes and saw that it was morning…..he looked at the watch…it was past 8AM….

The late night encounter and the delay in sleep had left him in a hangover….he squint his eyes and then rubbed off any traces of sleep from them…

He shook off his blanket and came down…..She was up and ready….her hair was knotted into a loose knot and clipped giving her a school teacher's look!

Her legs were stretched out and placed on the opposite seat…..

She was busily looking at the sights outside the window….….she sensed his presence and put her legs down and sat up straight….

He directly went to brush and fresh up…..Coming back, he sat opposite to her pulling up the shutters of the window….

He looked at her and perhaps as a courtesy, she also looked to his direction….he smiled in an impulse voicing a "Good morning"

He didn't expect a reply but she surprised him with a reply…"Good morning!"

Arjun looked out of the window and just enquired as if asking to none in particular, "na jaane kahaan tak paunche??…are we nearing Mumbai?"

She replied, "In less than a hour….We have passed Dadar"

He looked at her and nodded acknowledging her reply and also in gratitude for the information!

He remembered her talks about him over phone….that dawning on him made him silent after that….He didn't want to be pictured as a flirt or a stalker before her….for that matter, not before anybody!

So he just sealed himself in silence and kept gazing out of the window and occasionally checking his phone……there were some urgent messages to be sent…he did those as well and then let his mind wander into the life he was heading towards in the metro!

After almost 2 years of serving the department in Hyderabad, he was all set to join the famous team which had the best officers in its fold….

He felt privileged to have been selected into the team as the second in command to the chief

"Mr Sameer Rathod"

He was quite excited to meet him and was looking forward eagerly to work with him, under him with the most able officers in the department!

He had heard a lot of Mr Rathod…an able police officer….a born leader…a cop with a golden heart etc etc……that's what personified Sameer Rathod….and even without meeting him in person, Arjun was filled with respect and admiration for the chief….He was sure that they would hit off well and rock together as a team!

Arjun felt happy that his service and his successful missions in his previous posting had been noticed and he was given this unique opportunity!

Emergency Task Force was every cop's dream and it was not different for him as well and his dream was coming true….But he knew that with the realization of the dream and the unique privilege, came more responsibilities, more work, more pressure, more complex cases and of course more and more risks!

But he was undeterred by all of it…Afterall, it had been his dream to become a cop and work towards a crime free nation! And ETF was the perfect place for that!

The hustle and bustle as the train entered the outers of the central station of Mumbai shook him out of his thoughts about the life ahead….

He smiled to himself and looked out…..The train was just entering the platform!

He slowly bent sideways and pulled out his luggage while she waited till he did that…..

Arjun stood up picking up his belongings and walked a step towards the bay's entrance…

He stopped in his tracks….He felt an urge to look at her once more…..he knew that this was it….he would never see her again…..their journey together was over…..

He turned to her and voiced, "Good bye…"

She was trying to call someone when she heard him say that…..She looked up from her phone and just shook her head with a smile in response…..

He walked away without looking back again……his heart tugged him but he knew he had to leave this crazy feeling right here…..there was no future for what he felt for her…..

He stepped out of the train and looked around…..He had just taken a step towards the gate when he heard someone calling….."REVAAA"

Her name was something that he would never forget and he couldn't resist the urge to turn back and see who it was who was calling her name with so much audacity…..He turned around without a second thought….

Arjun saw her sprinting into the arms of a young guy….his face wasn't clear from this far but from the looks, he appeared to be a smart & handsome man!

Arjun's heart pricked but he soon came out of it….he shook his head sarcastically chuckling at his own heart's state which started beating faster in possessiveness….and as if consoling or mocking his heart, he muttered, "Crazy stupid me! All part of life! [He took a deep breath and instructed himself] Chal Rawte…niklo yahaan se…ETF awaits you!"

He turned around and walked out of the platform without looking back….Meanwhile she walked away tugging the arms of the guy to the opposite direction…..

Two different individuals…two different lives….two different directions…..two extreme poles!

Will these two poles meet again? Seems impossible, right? Well it is difficult but perhaps not impossible! And that's what makes life a riddle…

Life is indeed a riddle which is difficult to solve but definitely not impossible!

The riddle, the lives of these two strangers…Arjun and Reva and how they come together in life makes Zindagi Ek Paheli!

I know all are shocked by this….yes….its a rebirth of sorts for my Arjun and Reva….Story is new….characters are new….the situation and life is new….Only common thing is the writer….yup that's me…..another romantic intense love story from me….I hope u will enjoy as much as I do while writing for Arre!
