As much happy as fans of the actors may be, personally i feel that the show has done itself a lot of damage by introducing a full-fledged Ramayan.. and this is coming from a fan who loves Ramayan to the core..

The show's USP is Shivji and his story.. Ramayan has been explored countless times..and arguably in a much better way..Ironically, this is the 2nd version on the channel itself.. They had the stage-Ramayan last year hosted by Ajay Devgn..

And as good as the show makers may be, dragging in a theme already explored to its fullest is only going to lose u points..And with the focus shifting from Shivji (MR's surreal performance) there's not much to keep the viewers engaged..

A simple 2-3 week Ramayan wud have sufficed rather than what is currently tele-casted..

Earlier i wudnt miss a single ep of the show, and now if do happen to miss it, it really doesnt bother me that much..

Plz note- This is just my opinion..u may disagree but no bashing required..

I fully agree w/ you. There was no need to show the Ramayan - a story where Mahadev plays at best a cameo role. Same for the Mahabharata - both the epics might have place in a Vishnu centric serial, but not this one.

I was enjoying this serial b'cos it was a welcome break from the epics. While a lot of the Sati story was fictional, they showed her end beautifully, and established what might have been a standard, had they followed up. They covered the introduction of Parvati well, and aside from the blooper of having Tarakasura there from Sati's time, they covered that well.

Things started going downhill once Shiva-Parvati's marriage was over. First they introduced Shumbha & Nishumbha, and tossed in some meaningless stories b4 a half baked battle that saw only 2 of the asuras - Dhoomralochan & Raktabheej - slain. Then they showed a bizarre account of Kartikeya's birth, and him being raised by the Kritthikas, and then a pretty petulant Kartikeya as he kept growing (in contrast to a perfect Ganesh later). Later, they also spoilt Kartikeya's war w/ Tarakasura by showing Mahadev helping him, when in fact, nothing of the sort happened. Also, in the Mahishashur story, they showed Parvati take Durga's form due to Mahishashur threatening Kartikeya, which was just hogwash.

Essentially, this serial has ruined the depiction of both Parvati & Kartikeya, while showing Mahadev, Ganesh & Narayan(!) almost perfect. That had already spoilt it a lot for me. There are other stories that have yet to be shown - the story of Tulsi, Andhakasura, Ayappa and so on - which are very much Mahadev stories, not covered elsewhere and perfect for DkDM. Instead of covering those, they've dived into a full fledged Ramayan, making things up as they go along (environ-mental Tardka, curious Hanuman, loose cannon Urmila) so that the entire charm of this serial is gone. And that's w/o even bumping Sona, which was really inane from a casting standpoint.

@ TM yours actually is the popular opinion.. atleast in this forum

Ramayan itself is a repellant of sorts..

coz wen I hear Ramayan.. the only thing tht cums to my mind is slow movement of the story..!!

Not an unpopular opinion but a very popular one and I agree with all the above viewpoints.
The show is just getting unnecessarily stretched now because it is the most popular show of Life OK and they want to keep it going as much as possible.

But there are so many other better ways of stretching it, as is well known. Both the Andhak & Ayappa stories are tracks that could easily eat up months. Then there are other Jyotirlingas that they've not yet covered, and then there are stories from other books, like Skanda Purana, DSS, and so on.

Had they made it a point to show all members of Mahadev's family in full glory, they'd have had enough to last 10 years. Like just covering Ma Durga's complete stories - Durgam, Mahishashur, Shumbha/Nishumbha would have taken months, but they could have broken those out. Similarly, had they shown the story of Surapadman, Tarakasura would have been well stretched as well - and they could have shown the Tripura destruction after other events. Similarly, after the demise of Sati, they could have shown a lot of Mahadev stories that didn't involve any wives - like, say, Markandeya, or Vritra. They could have tossed in stories of Kali, or even peripheral stories of Mahadev in other books - like Raja Ila in the Ramayan. The possibilities of stretching this were endless, even while keeping the stories Mahadev centric. And as always, they could always twist stories that make Mahadev appear unfavorable.

And in the process, as TM pointed out, the USP of this show - a Mahadev centric show - has been lost.

Vrish Ma Durga and stories related to Shakti will not be covered like we want to in DKDM the only scope is stories which will have Mahadev in all glory. God knows why Andhak is not considered because that wld have made an awesome story but CV's rejected that story idea maybe once Ramayan is done they might think of these stories to keep the show running.

Totally agree with you. I have never heard nor seen nor read Mahadev or Shiv Puran. I have subscribed to the channel just for Mahadev. I would rather they focus on Mahadev than Ramayan.

Ramayan has been done 3 times so far. If the serial continues to go so slow. I am tempted to drop the channel itself.

as far as the story of andhak is concerned... it is quite similar to the story of all the asurs who have been killed by Shiv Parvati... all they do is to lust after Parvati...

When I read Shiv Puraan.. I hardly found any variation in the stories of Jalandhar and Andhak. except the way they came into being.

I might be wrong...

regarding Shakti stories being covered here, I agree with Nisha that the show being Mahadev one will have Mahadev in the centrestage... but there are enough legends to fill in the Puranic gap

Since I have quit watching but some of my neighbors n my in-laws have requested that makers shift to showing shiv stories n they r not finding the Ramayan track appealing as it does not matches up to the previous one n the focus has shifted from shiv stories which they are more interested to see...!!!!!
