"Arnav" I heard him say

"Answer me Sam" I said managing not to jump in the excitement of seeing him.

"I'm sorry. I was about to call you guys, but I wanted some peace of mind and so I came here. I'm really really sorry."

"What? You wanted peace? What happened?"

"Give me some time to explain" He said and I nodded.

"Okay. First of all tell me why are you in India?"

"I requested a transfer to Mumbai"

"But why?"

"Come on Arnav, don't act like you never wanted me back in India with you guys"

"Okay, I'm sorry" I said as I went ahead and hugged him.

There was something wrong, something was different from the real Samar Khan. He was never this calm. It felt like he had changed, but how and why? And one more thing, I don't know whether he missed me or not, but I , I missed him like hell. If you guys think I and Rishabh are close, then I and Samar were closer. I hope that hasn't changed for him because it would never change for me. But I would never admit that to him and boost his ego.

"Arnav I need to breathe" I heard him say and I broke the hug. I never wanted to leave him again. I missed my friend way too much.

"Wont you introduce me to the beautiful lady to me?" His player instincts were still intact.

He now referred to ... KHUSHI.

Oh no, I forgot my GIRLFRIEND in the excitement of seeing my best friend after years.

"Sorry" I said as I turned to face Khushi. She just smiled at me.

"Samar, this is Khushi, my girlfriend and Khushi remember I told you about Sam"

"I remember Arnav" She said to me as she moved forward to stand close to me while she continued to talk.

"And hi Samar, nice to meet you. I must say Arnav missed you very much. He might not admit that to you though."

I was amazed when she said that. I never told him that I missed him, I haven't even told Rishabh or Niveda even. Maybe I should ask her about that later.

"So you have told her about me?"

"Yes"

"Anyone in your life ?" I asked him.

"Not lucky enough." he said with a faint smile, the smile had something to itself, was it pain?

"Tell me about her then" He demanded.

He already remembered our first meeting. That was before he left. Then I told him about Anya and Rishabh's engagement and our date. Rishabh had once mentioned Anya to him.

"So you guys are on a date? I'm sorry I didn't know"

"Its okay Samar, Arnav can take me on a date later. I'm glad that you guys met" Khushi said. I was very happy that she did that. I'm glad that I found the right girl for me. She was everything that I wanted in my life partner. I felt like I had finally found my soul mate.

"Thanks. And you can call me Sam."

"Okay" she said and smiled at him while she came closer to me. My hands went to her shoulders and pressed her to me.

"But again, I'm sorry. If I had known.. " This time I interrupted not allowing him to complete the sentence.

"If you had contacted us after you came back to India you would've known" He was testing my patience by saying the same thing again and again.

"You guys continue , I'll just be back" Khushi said as she kissed my cheek. I kissed her back too. Well this was a step further isn't it?

"Arnav?" Sam brought me back to the present.

"Yes you. You owe me a lot of explanations"

"I will Arnav. Show some patience. I don't want to repeat it to Rishabh later, so I'll tell you both together"

"Fine. As you wish. But I wont let you go without telling us"

"Okay"

"Lets go to Rishabh's house now"

"NOW?"

"Yes, now and I'll call..."

Before I could complete my sentence my phone rang and it was Rishabh.

"Arnav aren't you on a date?"

No hello hi's?

"I was" I replied.

"What do you mean by 'I was'?" he said quoting me.

"You'll know soon. Now listen to me I was about to call you to ask whether you guys had dinner."

"Dinner? Arnav tell me what is going on"

"It was an yes or no question Rishu"

"No" ?He said irritation clear in his voice.

"Did she cook?"

"What?"

Before I could ask him again he spoke.

"NO and we were about to order something"

"Then there will be five more people joining you for dinner , so order accordingly"

"Five? You, Khushi , Niveda Liam and?"

"Stop making guesses and go and order. You'll know the answer soon"

I knew he was totally blank on what was going on and Sam on the other hand was looking at me confused. He might probably be thinking that how come I said five when here was only three of us here. Poor guy doesn't know about Niveda and Liam being in India.

"Okay" Rishabh said.

"Where are you, your place or Anya's?"

"Anya's"

"Ok see you soon then" I said and cut the call before he could ask me something again.

"KHUSHI" I called out loud so that she could hear me. She turned around and I signalled her to come over.

"Lets go meet Anya and Rishabh" I said

"Ruined their dinner?" She asked me with a worried expression.

"It is all because of..." Sam started again but we cut him off.

"YOU" We finished.

"Now lets go and you Sam are coming with us" I said.

"I have my car with me. So I'll follow you"

"Okay, that would do. Don't get lost and don't ever try to fool me."

"I wont" he said and we headed out. I made sure that the gate was locked this time.

As we got in the car I turned to Khushi.

"Do me a favour, call Niveda and tell them to meet at your sister's house"

"I will" She said as she took her phone from her clutch.

I heard her talking to Nivi while I concentrated on the road.

After driving for fifteen minutes we reached Anya's house. Sam parked his car next to mine a few seconds later.

"So bro you stay here" I said as I rang the bell.

Before I could take my hands off the switch the door opened and Rishabh stood in front of me demanding answers.

"So fast?" I exclaimed as I saw the tension on his face.

"What is up Arnav? Tell me, you are killing me"

"Have some patience man" I said as I patted his shoulder and entered the house with Khushi beside me.

Anya came forward and hugged Khushi before she questioned her with her eyes. Khushi just nodded in response.

"Now get ready for the biggest surprise of your lives" I said.

"Biggest surprise of our lives?"

"Something like that" I muttered not so clearly.

"Come in" I and Khushi said together and the front door flew open. Samar stood with his back to us.

Well that was good. I was able to guess that it was Sam lets see if Rishabh can identify him too or not.

"Who is that?" Rishabh said as he went forward. Before he could close his mouth Sam turned around. His mouth remained open and that was a sight to watch.

"Close your mouth Rishabh" I teased.

"Come on guys, I don't understand anything. You two were on a date and what happened to that? And who is this guy?"

Anya directed her question at Khushi and she just smiled.

"Samar" Rishabh said as he went forward to hug him. I joined them and made it a group hug.

"Guys leave. You are both going to kill me" Samar said.

"You deserve to be dead" Rishabh said looking at him.

"I'm sorry" he apologized again, well the first time to Rishabh that night.

"Are you ready to face our questions?" Rishabh asked him., but I felt the need to answer the question.

"Of course Rishabh, he is ready. That is the reason we are all here"

"Really? Then start" He said as we all sat down in the living room.

"No no no. Wait. Niveda is on her way and deserves to know your reasons.

"Nivi? She is in town?" Samar asked the question as if he didn't want to meet her. Why would that be? He was her favourite, well only after me. Just like me she too was closer to Samar than Rishabh. She was deeply hurt when he left.

Maybe he didn't want to explain the reason for his disappearance before her. But why? If he was ready to share it with Khushi and Anya around then why not with Nivi? Well I don't care about that. Sam now has no choice than to tell everything before every one of us.

The bell rang again and this time it was Nivi and Liam as expected.

I guess I was wrong in thinking all those things earlier. Sam was very happy to see Nivi and so was she. She came running and hugged him tightly.

"Nivi careful, don't hurt the baby" Liam said with concern evident in his voice as he saw her run.

Sam came out of the hug and questioned her with his eyes and she blushed. Nivi introduced Liam and Samar.

Samar was comfortable with Liam, Khushi and Anya here too.

"I was really tensed when Khushi called me and asked to meet you guys here" Nivi said

"And what do you think now?" Khushi asked her.

"You should have given me some clue"

Both of them were talking like they knew each other for a long time, ignoring me, the reason why they were here together.

We all went to the dining hall, took our plates and filled them with food and took our positions on the table. Sam was now seated facing all of us. It was like a class room where we were the students and him the teacher. We were waiting for the teacher to start talking with pin drop silence.

"Isn't it bad manners to speak while you eat?" Sam asked

"Stop trying to escape Sam. You wont be able to tonight" All others including me nodded in agreement when Rishabh said that.

"Three people over here don't even know about me" He tried again.

"Oh com on an, I don't think there is anything more to hear about you than what these two had told me" Liam said pointing to me and Nivi.

"And did I look surprised when I met you?" Khushi added.

"And remember I shut my mouth when I came to know you are Samar" Anya supplied.

" Really? You guys know everything? What have they told you?'

"We three have told these three everything about you because unlike you e missed you" Rishabh said to him.

"Okay. I'm sorry again"

"Fine, now tell us why you left India? Why did you not inform us?"

"I left because someone broke my heart"

"What?" I don't know who all asked him that particular question.

"Yes. I fell in love and she brutally broke my heart"

"You never told us" Nivi said.

"Because I never told her too" He said turning to her.

"You left because your one sided love story came to an end?" That is not a well enough resonn to betray your friends" Liam said.

"It was. Maybe you would have done that too if you were in my position. I didn't know when I fell for her. I simply assumed that she loved me too. The way she behaved around me, the special concern she had for me, everything made me believe I was right. And then one day she came to me and introduced her boyfriend to me. And that was enough and I decided to leave."

"You left because of that small reason?"

"Well that was the main reason I left India. I know that was a silly reason, but I loved her very much and I still do too"

"Oh. It was serious on your part?" I asked him.

It was like only Sam and I were the ones in the conversation. The others were mere spectators.

He nodded at my question.

"Then why are you back now?"

"Because of mom"

"Oh, how is she now? I wanted to meet her but I lost all contacts with her and you wouldn't attend the calls."

His mom was the sweetest lady I ever met. My mom was strict and Rishabh's mom was stricter. His mom only knew to love her kids. She lost her husband at a very young age and struggled a lot to take care of him.

"She is no more"

"What?" This time Rishabh and Nivi too joined me.

"She died two months back"

"Two months? You mean after you decided to shift to Dubai?"

"Yeah"

"But you never told us"

"Because I didn't know too"

"What do you mean?"

Then the guy who never cried in front of us ever, cried. Yes he DAMN CRIED.

"She wanted to see me. It was her last wish and I couldn't fulfil that. I had cut off all ties with her after I shifted to Dubai. I never called her, talked to her all because she told me that I needed to come back. She asked not to waste my life for the girl I loved, who never loved me back."

"You mean she knew you were in love?"

I don't know who asked that question but I was anxious to know the answer too.

"Yup. She knew who it was. She tried to persuade me to move on the moment I told her everything. But I wasn't ready, so I gave up and left the country."

"How did you come to know about her then?"

"Imagine the situation where you come to know about your mother's death from some random neighbour. I met one of my neighbour's from Delhi at the airport and he was the one to inform me. Guilt was killing me. I was the one responsible for her death. She was very much worried for me. I shouldn't have done that to her"

"I'm sorry Samar. I can completely understand" I said as I went ahead and hugged him.

The others felt a need to leave us alone. All except Rishabh left the room. He came up and hugged us without saying a word. I wanted him to be here with Sam and I decided to leave. I needed fresh air to come out of this shock.

Samar nodded at me when he saw me leave. He knows how affected I was when I lost my mom. He was the one who consoled me then. But I wasn't able to do that for him. At least not at that moment.

"I'm going out for a walk" I said to Khushi and Nivi who stood next to each other.

"Can I accompany you?" Nivi asked me and I nodded. She would be in the same situation as mine. We both knew the pain we had to go through when we lost our mom. Losing someone close to you is very painful.

We walked together for a while and none of us spoke.
