Acting is his passion, but Mannish Goel's equally passionate about something else too. It's a movement he has started to spread awareness about the need for counselling in schools and colleges. It's called Future Lies In Our Youth (FLY) and Mannish is hoping it will gain momentum over the years.
It all began when Mannish visited his school in Delhi last year. "Around that time a young girl from the school had committed suicide. It was very upsetting. The problem is youngsters have nobody to turn to. There is no professional
counselling that students can avail of in their schools or colleges. That's when I decided in my own way I will work towards this. I even met the education minister of Maharashtra and I am hoping for some action."
Meanwhile, Mannish has been visiting schools and speaking to students on this topic. "On Republic Day I was invited to an event where there were students from 30 different schools. There were teachers and parents too all under one roof "
But, why is this matter so close to his heart? Has he had some personal experience? "We all as students have had some complexes. I was darker compared to many other students and so some of them treated me differently. Luckily, there was a counsellor Mr Britto who helped me overcome my complexes and also spoke to my fellow students and counselled them about their behaviour."
