Mona's Valentine's Day present By: Tushar Joshi January 30, 2007
Thank You Lata Di: Mona Singh and Lata Mangeshkar
She calls it her Valentine's Day present. Mona Singh has been roped in for a music video for a Lata Mangeshkar song.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha's brother Anupam, the video will be shot in the scenic locales of Kerala. This will also be the first time Mangeshkar has recorded a private album with T-Series.
Pining for love
Giving details about the project, Mona says, "I was super thrilled when I got a call to do a music video with Lataji.
I was in Delhi shooting for the Extreme Makeover show. I am a huge fan of hers and this was like a dream come true. There was no way I could have not taken up the offer."
The icing on the cake was when Mona heard she would be travelling to Kerala for the shoot. "I absolutely love that place. After Jassi got over, I went for a vacation to the backwaters.
We will be shooting in Munnar, which is a cozy hill station, and also visiting the backwaters."
The video will be released during Valentine's Day and revolves around a tragic love story. "It's a sad story about this girl who is pining for love. There's this model Khaled who is playing my love interest in the video. I quite liked the concept."
However, this isn't Mona's first music video. The actress had shot for a Talat Aziz song in 2003 before she donned the Jassi avatar. "I don't think anyone would even remember me in that song. It was ages ago."
A fan of Lata's old songs, Mona says she's honoured to be able to lip sync to her number. "It's amazing how even at this age, she has managed to retain her golden voice and weave magic with her songs.
I love her old songs more than the new ones and keep listening to them when I'm in the mood."
Mob fury
Recently, Singh had a scary experience in Dubai when violent fans there mobbed her. "I didn't know people in Dubai would be so crazy. It was an amazing show but I shouldn't have jumped into the crowd.
I was actually looking out for a friend, but the moment I was in the crowd, people were pulling my hands, scratching me and trying to get as close as possible. The situation got out of hand and I was crying uncontrollably later on."
But Mona says she won't stop interacting with her fans. "I love them. They have always supported me. It's just that I need to be more careful before jumping into a crowd of a thousand people!"
I am happy for Mona but I wish her Love Partner was AA instead, then it would have been totally different story. I guess Lataji is not aware of MandA Chemistry.
