So THAT is how Saneeswarar got Eswara Pattam... Is it a true story? Because I read somewhere in this forum only that Shaneeswarar is a corrupted form of Shanaischarar (one who walks slowly)...

It is said (so the story begins) that man's destiny is controlled by the nine planets, especially Shani. But there is a Supreme Power over and above the nine planets- and that is Parameshwara. Those who have complete faith in Lord Shiva will not be afftected by the planets

To prove this Ganga, Gowri and Shiva take birth on Earth as humans. Ganga and Gowri (in their human forms) both want to wed Shiva (who is also in his human form). But it seems they all face umpteen number of problems, due to Shani Dev's malevolence.

Now for Part 15-

Finally, for some reason Shani is distressed by the confusion he has caused and decides to conduct the marriage himself . He disguises himself as a priest and Narada (played by Cho Ramaswami) becomes his assistant.

They go to the mandapam were some guy comes in and opposes the marriage. Shani Deva looks at him and the guy begins to feel itching all over his body. Only when he withdraws his opposition does his itching subside.

Shani Deva looks at the bridegroom and asks whether he is ready for marriage. Shani Deva says he will personally conduct their marriage but he should receive whatever dakshina he asks for. The bridegroom (Shiva) ties the thali (mangasutra) to both the girls and asks what dakshina does he want.

The priest / Shani says he wants the title of "Eshwara". Shiva coems in his original form and says henceforth he (Shani) will be known as "Shanieeshwara"

Shiva also says that Shani had troubled them enough and ordinary mortals cannot withstand if Shani were to cause so many problems. So Shiva asks Shani to calm down and slow down and look at people with benevolence - not malevolence.

Narada requests Mahadeva along with Gowri and Ganga to reside forever in that place (Kashi) and make it a Bhu- Kailash. He asks Mahadeva to bless all those come there to be freed from the ill effects of the nine planets.

Wah Ganga and Gauri fighting for Mahadev sounds exciting. I wish I understood the language. 😊

Yes I wanted that too. Shani, in Tamil is knows as Shaneeshwarar- a corrupted version of the original Sanskrit name.

In Sanskrit he is known as Shanaischara- One who walks slowly (Shanaihi Shanai hi charati, iti Shanaishchara) due to his thigh being hit by Yama.

In this story Shani becomes lame in one foot because of Ganga (that's what I have understood from what I saw in Part 15)

ha this movie. well the story is like this
shiv is fed up with the constant fighting between ganga and parvati curses them to be born as humans and become friends. so parvati is born as a merchant's daughter and ganga as a fisher man's girl. though from different caste they are best buddies untill they fall in love with the same man shiv.
shiv for his part comes as a merchant to parvati and fisherman to ganga. both ladies think the other has cheated them. but when thier life is in danger the forget their animosity and rescue each other. finally the realise their true forms and promise mahadev that they will not fight again.
in between there is a track of shani trying to prove he is more powerful than mahadev and even mahadev cannot escape from his 7 1/2 years spell. when he comes disguised he is beaten by ganga (fisherwoman) which leads to the breaking of his leg.
finally shiv tells him that since shani is so perfect in his job he will be known as shanieaswer. and the breaking of his leg is to slow down his force when he descends on human kind.

Wow shruthi the story is wonderful. Lucy Shiv, Parvati and Ganga something which this show will never fulfill but and that pic of Sona as Ma Durga is my favorite.
