Jermaine's Interview: "It was very different"
Day 26, 21:50 UTC - by Neil Wilkes, Editor
Before you went in the house, did you do your research on the programme? Were you sure what you were getting yourself in for?
"Did I do my research? I really wasn't, no."
What did you make of it?
"I thought it was very different."
Is that a polite way of saying 'awful'?
"No, not, well... it was kind of like the most different thing that I've ever done. It was just something that I've never, ever experienced. I found strength by just fasting and praying and keeping the peace, kind of. It was something to wake up and know you're being watched."
And keeping the peace was something everyone just piled onto you. Does everybody do that at your house? (Everybody) said it.
"Well see, I'm a person who doesn't like controversy. I always told them 'a kindness is a strength'. There was a dispute between Shilpa and Jade, and I kind of separated them. It was not good."
What was your take on that, because that was sort of brewing for a long time? It was the straw that broke the camel's back, really.
"There was a separation in the house when Jade came in. I happen to like Jade very, very much. She is who she is. She's real, she speaks her mind. Shilpa's from another culture and they didn't fit."
Everybody was seeking advice from you. You turned into a bit of a sage. Can we expect to see 'Jermaine's Gems' any time soon?
"I'm busy writing a musical on the family right now, so..."
On your family? Really? In America? Here?
"Here, we plan to launch it here. I'm going to be busy when I leave you guys!"
So 'Jermaines Gems' will have to wait. I want to move on to...
"First, is my brother in town? Michael?"
Michael, I haven't seen him. If he was here I'd be over him like a rash!
"I was so worried that he was watching the bit when we did the Jackson Five."
What was it like to live in such a flatulent household?
"Oh my God. I couldn't believe it. It was like so much.. and the bird thing. But you kind of... not get used to it, but it's here, there, it goes on all the time."
Would you do it again, this show?
"It's kinda hard because I've so much to do. But there were great moments."
That's so polite!
