Just like Belle she traded her own life for the safety of her father and lived as prisoner/slave at the beginning in a person's palace who was seen as a beast by everyone. But gradually, because of her good heart, she began to see past it and a bond was formed between the two. The beast began to change and he came to know what life is all about. He began to appreciate the little good things in life and started doing some good for others. He shed off his egoistic and selfish side. The curse he was living under reversed. True love changed him over time genuinely and he became her prince.
