Actors Who Popularised The Sikh Look
Opting for the turbaned and bearded look has become the newest trend in Bollywood, it seems. We tell you about the actors who made the Sikh look so cool.
Nobody can beat Amitabh Bachchan when it comes to experimenting with looks. The megastar sported a perfect Sardar look in Anil Sharma's 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo'. He played the role of Major General Amarjeet Singh in the film.
Unlike many actors, Farhan Akhtar didn't fake the Sikh look in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's film revolved around the life of legendary sportsman Milkha Singh.
Shah Rukh Khan managed to woo his female fans when he got into the garb of a Sikh soldier for a commercial for Pepsodent. If reports are to be believed, the superstar took hours to get the perfect Sikh look.
In 'Love Aaj Kal', Saif Ali Khan's first home production, the actor was seen donning the look of a turbaned and bearded Sikh hero.
After he played the role of a Marathi cop in 'Singham', which was directed by Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn sported the Sikh look for Ashwini Dhir's 'Son Of Sardaar'.
'Singh Is Kinng', which went on to become one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, featured Akshay Kumar as a turbaned Sikh hero. But his not-so-real bearded look did leave many miffed.
If there is anybody who looks flawless in the Sikh look, it is Sunny Deol. The actor effectively essayed the role of a Sikh in 'Border', 'Gadar-Ek Prem Katha' and 'Jo Bole So Nihaal'. Similarly, brother Bobby Deol wowed everyone with his look in playing the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in 'Shaheed'. Both Sunny and Bobby joined father Dharmendra in repeating the look in 'Yamla Pagala Deewana'.
Ranbir Kapoor wore a turban to do justice to his role in 'Rocket Singh, Sales Man of the Year'. In his upcoming film 'Besharam' too, Ranbir will be seen in the Sardar avatar. Whether not sporting the beard will put him into trouble is yet to be seen.
In his attempt to do something interesting and different, Salman Khan too sported a rugged beard and the turban in Sameer Karnik's 'Heroes'.==========
