JA Serial - Offensive? To whom? For what?

The fact that Ekta Kapoor was directing a historical was enough for me to shy away from watching this serial (dare we remember her previous debacle Mahabharat!)

you can imagine... how I feel now... I am from Mughal lineage ... from centuries Mughal women enjoying so much liberty n education n respect...how I feel when every one in show, in protest even on this forum making fun of Mughals n Mughal women... every one want to win race of praising Rajput... yet there r Rajput who are actually leading this protest .👏.. speechless🤬

Because empty mind is a devil's workshop. They are ignorant, jobless and useless, so they choose to protest a TV show rather than something truly important. It reminds me how after a certain age, old men choose to validate their existence by checking which dog is pooping around their yard rather than using their experience to bring constructive change in their country. Makes one really sad...

Well my dear friend, welcome to the show and to the forum.

First I have to say, that I started watching the show abotu two weeks in and asked myself those same questions. Now before icontinue I have to saythat I do not agree with protesting a FICTIONAL show...its quite ridiculous and takes away from the fundamental right of creative liberty and freedom.

BUT ... when I watched the first two weeks that I had missed I have to say I was taken aback by some things that were shown. Now, I was not offended by any particular preference for any one religion...in fact I am neither from an islamic background nor a hindu background so I have no emotional connection to this show on the basis of religion...

but the scene that stands out above all for me is when Bairam khan basically challlenges jalal to take the woman in the maret forcefully. and then the way he shames the man and wife and humiliates them.

What was the need for that scene. From the way they are depicting Jalal now, it was just sheer stupidity in my opinion and im not impressed with that scene at all, even now when I think back on it.


So I definitely don't think the Show is taking anyone side in reference to mughals or rajputs, but that scene was distasteful for my viewing pleasure.

The serial simply as a fictional show with a massive dollop of dramatic license is pretty okay. The love story in itself is questionable and the history behind it lacks credence. Akbar according to what I recall from history books was a short, pudgy man, probably middle aged when he married the Rajput princess who gave birth to Jehangir. Ruquaiya to all intents and purposes was Akbar's favorite, in fact, he handed the upbringing of Shah Jehan to Ruquiya who was instrumental in arranging the marriage of the prince. The Rajput princess according to history played no role except to bear Akbar his only heir to the throne.
So maybe the Rajputs are offended by the license being taken by the story tellers? No where in history is Bharmal mentioned as making a deal with Akbar though the emperor was known to wed as all emperors of yore, including alexander, to princesses from defeated kingdoms to solidify their power.
To me, even if the love story between Jalal and Jodha rings untrue, that willing suspension of disbelief makes the show enjoyable enough to watch.

As far as I am aware, (and my only claims are from online sources/books) but, many if not most Mughals rulers have committed cruel acts to commoners...so I cannot see how things like pillage, plunder, murder and rape wouldn't have happened during conquests...heck..it happens even today (in a comparatively egalitarian society)

Well if anything...all successful/powerful rulers have had good doses of cruelty and yet the wisdom as to when and how to use it - be it Ashoka, Alexander or Akbar!

Oh Sonya...that scene was definitely cringe-worthy and not needed..😵.I'd definitely include that scene in the 4-5 needless scenes of the show...I think they wanted to show how he was being negatively influenced by BK...even then, it could have been executed better...like him sitting back on his horse ordering his soldiers to pick her up (instead of getting down and approaching her like a common rowdy!)

But, still...in an Ekta historical show thats been running for 2 months and to have just about 4-5 needless scenes (with a little bit of allowance for dramatic license ofcourse)...I'd say she's doing quite well...lol wouldn't you think?😳

I am in complete agreement with you. The show is fun to watch and except for a few scenes its doing quite well. We are still watching it, so obviously there is something, or someone holding us to our seats, looking forward to Monday's episode.

With that being said, @ bold...oh my god you had me laughing with that comment. You are too funny! pilage, plunder, murder and rape...its one thing for it to have happened and to learn about our history in a history class or a documentary series...its quite another to watch a show for entertainment value and have it depict these items. My threshold for violence against women, discrimination, sexism, and basically any type of rude behavior to woman shown on TV for entertainment is very very very low...so although I know it was normal for woman to behave in a certain manner in that era, watching it for entertainment in my opinion should be toned down for a present day viewer as we do not agree with those principles of life in today's day and age...just my take on it. Do I want to see our Jalal who is the Hero of this show do any of that or treat woman disrespectfully...no I don't because we are after all watching a love story...not a documentary.
