DC Reflections:20

First of all, Ruby, thanks for inviting me to open DC. 😊 I'm still awed by my audacity in accepting. This is my first attempt at an analysis of any sort. So guys please don't expect the usual incisiveness for which DC is known, rather please treat it as an ice-breaker to get the discussion going on the epic Arnav-Khushi parting at the airport.

Parting is such sweet sorrow

The scene played out against the backdrop of a busy airport. A domestic dispute in full public view. A distraught young wife pleading with her angry husband.

But the mood is broken; her gift rejected.

"Mat jao," Khushi clasps his hand. She won't let him go after their shared moment. It's only for a few days, supposedly, but Khushi knows that he mustn't go. Not just not like this. He mustn't go period.

He turns back...

Absolutely stunning ... Ruby is right... Prose that has the soul of a heart clenching song... I had trouble choosing what to focus on your post... Coz everything was brilliant!!!!

You know some friends who know how crazy I am about this show often are incredulous that I can be so hooked even after so many months... I tried explaining ... But they don't get it... So I keep it to myself now...

It is for this reason... That someone else sees what I had seen and then they connects the dots in another way to reveal these hidden gems...They flips it around...peels back a layer...adds another...parse it... deconstruct it...or just plain admire it... And I stay hooked...

Before i venture into writing my scrambled thots down for u ... lets all come together to WISH ...SHIKHA .. on turning RED ... Shikha a song for u ... " yeh laal rang ab tumhe badi der se chhodega" 😉

I started writing in this forum during the GH track (Gupta House) .. just before Arnav was kidnapped ... i started writing in the hallowed pages of Redux ... & then when v started DC ... analysis just took over ... I have loved the character Arnav Singh Raiada .. but never spoken about him .. cause what my read on that character was .. was vastly different from the take of the forum ... yesterday in Ipoona's post she picked up on a line ...

"mujhe baatein dohrane ki aadat nahi hai" ... & when i started connecting the "baatein" which were repeated by Arnav ... i was compelled to give a glimpse of the MAN .. as i saw him ...

so here goes ...

what a sentence to say .. " Mujhe baatein dohraney ki aadat nahi hai" ... another Dichotomy in IPK ...

Cause the only thing he did with KHUSHI was repeat himself ... look at the number of FARAK PADTA HAi ... I HATE YOU ... I DONT WANT TO SEE UR FACE ... GET OUT ... I WONT BE TAKEN IN BY THE INNOCENCE OF UR FACE ...

The first thing that struck me was ... Arnav Singh Raizada was a lIAR ... He LIED ...liar liar pants on Fire ... & HE WAS SHIT SCARED OF KHUSHI & HER EFFECT ON HIM ...

Cause if u see each scene when he has uttered these above lines ... the meaning is very Clear ... I LOVE YOU ... DONT LEAVE ME EVER ... a line which he finally tells her in the farmhouse just before he consummates his marriage .. I WONT BE ABLE TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU ...

So right from the beginning ... whenever Arnav Singh Raizada fought with KHUSHI .. he was fighting with himself ... now if u connect this to the words which opened La's eyes ... "mein kuch bhi kabhi jaan ke nahi karta hoon .. mein bas aisa hi hoon ...KHUSHI " ... u come to know .. that each time he belittled her .. he was trying his best to belittle the FEELINGS WELLING IN HIM ... it was never about KHUSHI or her status in LIFE ...

Now look at the scene in his office .. when she is stepping back & he walks forward towards her .. this is something which is always there in IPK .. its there from the dargah episode ... i would ask u guys to grab ur remotes & pause for just a bit here ...whenever Arnav has walked towards KHUSHI .. & she has stepped BACK ... he has looked at her stepping back from him ...

Did u ever wonder about the significance of this ... it was so significant .. that the love track of IPK ..started with this scene ( the pool side scene when Arnav tells khushi .. its high time when i walk towards u .. u dont step back)

Let me give u the significance of the step back ... here is Arnav who is fighting a bitter battle within himself on this little chit of a girl called KHUSHI .. but how much ever he wants to push her away ... he is drawn towards her ... hence he always STEPS forward towards her .. ( hence Arnav said ILU first) ... but KHUSHI .. who is overwhelmed by this fire she sees in his eyes ... always steps back .. & thats when ARNAV gets angry ... the anger is simply ... I despite the war in me .. am walking towards u .. but ur stepping back .. when u shud move forth ...

Now try seeing all the step forward & backwards scene with this thot in ur mind .. & u will get the actual meaning of the scene that the maker was trying to show u ...

So lets look at the lover Arnav ... what made him tick like a time bomb ...

Arnav had a constant need to REASSERT himself .. its so dam STRONG in him ...most of the nok jhok is about it ... is it any wonder he CLUTCHED her all the time ... cause wasnt he JUST ABOUT CLUTCHING AT STRAWS ... he was so Lost at sea where his feelings for KHUSHI went ... The reason he SHOUTED AT HEr .. was HIS LOSS OF CONTROL .. the reason he had to belittle her .. Casue that was the ONLY DEFENCE he had ...

Now look at the scene ... the moment she steps away from ARNAV .. KHUSHI STUMBLES ... ( this a common pattern in IPK) ... & in steps in Arnav to save her & pull her to himself ... ... a step back of KHUSHI will always make her stumble ... cause the moment she is away from him .. she is away from her destiny ... & u can run all u like but destiny follows u ... SO run all she might .. she was joined to Arnav .. & hence their paths always crossed .. till they gave in & merged their paths ..

Dunno if u guys ever took notice of this .. but to me this was another defining moment on Arnav & his feelings for KHUSHI .. whenever Arnav has held KHUSHI's hand ... he has never LEFT IT .. but she has shrugged it off ... ( this is ofc after the fall from the office episode) ... Arnav whenever he looked into KHUSHI's eyes ... he was lost .. she was the one who would pull herself together ...

Now all of us have noticed the shirt clutch of KHUSHI .. but how many of us .. actually noticed this ... whenever Arnav held Khushi's hand .. & she shrugged him off .. for a small moment he was suspeneded in that position .. like .. he did not want her to GO ... now connect this .. every defining moment of Arnav he has held KHUSHI's hands ... be it when he announced his engagement date .. be it when he announced his wedding .. be it when he cried for his sister ... KHUSHI was the BALM he would need to keep his emotions in control .. coz having her by his side completed him ... NOW connect this to the dhaba episode .. .. when KHUSHI stops him by just putting her hand on his shoulder from killing the goon ... KHUSHI 's presence calmed him .. calmed his soul ...

Hence .. the significance of the dialog ... SAANSEIN RUK JAAYENGI ... hence the significance of the hand on heart to connect their heart beats when khushi lay dead ... HE FELT ALIVE when he was with KHUSHI .. so was it any wonder he believed he could bring her to LIFE with his heartbeat joining with hers ...

Now u can understand ... why ARNAV always tried to FIGHT with KHUSHI ... cause engaging with her brought him back to LIFE ... a life which was caught in a TIME WRAP ...

Another interesting thing is ... Lavanya Kashyap .. current girlfriend of Arnav's .. a woman who was a woman of the world .. very savvy & with it ... but Arnav hated any PUBLIC DISPLAY of emotion with her ... now connect this to Arnav on his sangeet ceremony .. he walks up on stage & PUBLICLY PROPOSES TO KHUSHI .. that to by dancing on a BOLLY number ... ... thats the level of LOVE ARNAV was capable of GIVING & FEELING .. & it was this Capability of DEPTH of feeling .. that Arnav was scared of.

FOR Arnav Love will always be all encompassing ... a reflection of which u see in his LOVE FOR HIS Di. BUT, with KHUSHI the tender protective feelings are also wrapped in with his INTENSE LUST for her ... SO THE EMOTIONS ARE FAR MORE VOLATILE ...

I once had a discussion with someone who said .. ARNAV SINGH RAIZADA was a complex character .. with many layers ... MY ANSWER to that ..

Arnav Singh Raizada was a ONE DIMENSIONAL CHARACTER ... what he felt he felt from DAY 1 of meeting KHUSHI ... are the feelings which stay with him till the last episode of IPK ... yes he fought those feelings ... but the feelings were always there .. the feeling ... the realisation that this woman was his DESTINY is what makes HIM HOLD HER ..

If u notice the day Arnav lets his feelings for KHUSHI rise to the surface ... HE NEVER BACKED DOWN ..whether he acknowledged those feelings or not ...

The egotist elititst ... served wedding guests in a small shanty ... for a smile from KHUSHI ..

The Millionaire Businessman ... repaired small household electronic devices ... for KHUSHI ...

& this is all before ... KHUSHI I LOVE YOU ...

Ruby... Meri dost... Pace ..Pace... Slow down ... I can't keep up... Mujeh sans nahi aa rahi!!! Mien thodi slow hoo ya abhi yahen pay subha kay 3;30 baj rahey hai aur mien yeh sab kar rahi hoo... I must be crazy or you all must be that good!!! You decide!!!

Love what you said about the "dance" and whole heartidly agree about ASR saying I love you way before he actually said it... Wasn't the the brilliance of this show... Every time I think of an actual moment or scene I think he said it ...I want to push it back even further...Can I really push it back to the dori scene... I think so... Any way .. I will reread your post and come back at a saner hour ... With better adjective to do justice to it...

I was observing u from past few minutes..

I mean you looked .. u know sort of unsettling… restless phasing here and there… and then u move to the window and suddenly u look relaxed…

Let me also see what u have there..

Emm…

Oh!!! The girl she came today!!! Good ! when?

Hye… so the girl is responsible for making u smi…. I mean restless.. right?

(don't give me those looks… I get confused!!)

We will see what we can make her do today…

Taking the Airport Scene first:

The other scene i like a lot .. was the scene when KHUSHI removes her things from Arnav's room ..now u will wonder why i am saying all this here .. as we are actually talking about the airport farewell scene ... but the foundation & meaning of that scene is in these 2 episodes ... & ofcourse the GH TRACK ...when KHUSHI says .. "arnavji iss duniya ke sabse acche pati hai" ( some day i will do an analysis of that whole garima khushi discourse not today though) ...

That night on the poolside ... was the FIRST TIME .. KHUSHI said I LOVE YOU to Arnav ... & the realisation of those words are there in Arnav's eyes ... let me draw u to the dialog ... "kyon ke aapse koi pyaar karen .. aap iske layak hi nahi hai" ... that was the FIRST I LOVE YOU of KHUSHI .. ok ok .. how first .. if FARAK PADTA HAI was spoken a million times in before this ... cause if u notice .. ONLY ARNAV EVERY SAID .. HAAN FARAK PADTA HAI ... KHUSHI always said ... Humein FARAK NAHI PADTA HAI ... she always denied their love ... but on that night at the pool side .. she opened her heart ... showed the wounds he had inflicted on her ... that wound was far far more severe than the paltry arm clutches ...

And hate liberated them the way love never could have then. The passion in their 'I hate yous' is testimony to the strength of the feeling; it is the freeing of restraint; the boiling over of naked emotion in the way a declaration of love could never be. I'm surprised they didn't scald each other because I could feel the heat from my TV screen. 😆 It def was a catharsis of sorts.

The other scene was ... when KHUSHI removes her things from Arnav's room ... thats the day .. the FIGHTER KHUSHI GAVE UP ... she retreated ...she turned back to KHUSHI KUMARI GUPTA .. from the (singh Raizada) .. thats the one thing ArNAV could'nt stand ...why cause just a couple of days back in the GUPTA house .. he had pledged FOREVER TO HER ... 😊 how u ask ... ok here goes ...

Arnav is sleeping in the night ... getting flashes of Khushi's diatribe with her mother ... he gets up swamped in guilt .. this is his first REALIZATION .. of what a BIG BLUNDER he has done ... THERE WAS NO WAY ... this marriage could END IN 6 months .. he would have to live with the fact that the woman he loved did not love him ... he goes back to the bed .. holds her hands ... that was his promise of FOREVER TO HER ... & now cut to Khushi removes herself from his ORBIT ... he shouts at her .. U CANT CHANGE THINGS AT UR WHIM ...

She has confessed She did NOT love Shyam .. & she was tricked by Shyam .. & then that night she tells Arnav ... i have now understood .. how when u cant stand the sight of me .. how much my things must've hurt u ... This is the second time ... he hears ... I LOVE YOU ...

Now lets connect this to the airport farewell ... he is going away .. with a heavy heart .. that KHUSHI has given up on their marriage ... she wants to prove herself innocent YES .. but has given up on their MARRIAGE ... & then she walks into the airport .. holding him back ...

AT first her only thot is to prove her innocence ... but then he probes ... & she says ... i care a dang about my innocence ... IF U WERE NOT INVOLVED .. i would not Bother ... THIS WAS THE THIRD I LOVE YOU .. from KHUSHI ...

I have no words... 👏

The scared .. part of Arnav .. makes him turn her away ... but in his heart he carried the 3 I love you's that KHUSHI had spoken loud & clear to him ... & finally at the airport ... she uttered the words he always wanted to hear ... "AAP HAIN TOH FARAK PADTA HAI" ... the words the emotions she denied .. were on her lips ...

God yes! How he yearned to hear her say ke farak padta hai but she never would. And now at the airport, there's no holding her back.

Now connect the next shot to all the times u have seen Arnav do this ... KHushi steps forward .. & HOLDS ARNAV"s hands .. she had done this only one other time ... when she told him ... UR NEARNESS mAKES MY HEART BEAT FASTER at holi. an acknowledgement of HIS EFFECT on her ... today .. she held his hands ... in an acknowledgement of what his WORTH was to her ... she could not LIVE if he walked away ... a true declaration of Her feelings FOR HIM ...

But Arnav at that point is a mess ... the 'chhap gaya hai woh pal mere dimaag mien" is swirling at one end .. & her eyes which are entreating & shouting her love are at the other end .. holding him back ...

So Arnav takes a step back ... NOTE .. KHUSHI MOVES FORWARD ... HOLDS the HANDS .. while ARNAV moves Back & shrugs the hand ...

Now look what happened .. THE MOMENT ARNAV SHRUGGED KHushi's hands .. HE STUMBLED ... he got kidnapped ... TILL KHUSHI HAD TO COME FORTH .. & RESCUE HIM ... draw the parallels ...

Yes just what I thought. He turned his back on her and walked away, and even though his heart/instincts made him turn around, by then it was too late, fate had knocked on his door.

So thats the BIGGEST SIGNIFICANCE of the step forward & step backwards in this story .. ONLY when they stepped together .. were they together ... & could demolish evil ...

And again 👏

BUt even as he .. Arnav makes a move to pull his hand from her hands .. HE HOLDS HER HANDS ... that was the promise ... he made that night in GH to KHUSHI .. a promise of togetherness .. which he reitreated at the airport ... I am going away ... BUT I will come back TO U .. U R MINE ..

Absolutely love the way you've connected GH to Airport. And your dissection of the airport scene, the connects, the parallels, the significance are both sharp and enlightening. So I'm going to go back and see it again with the benefit of this new insight.
