a very different take on the same situationactually in the whole Gauam-Ahilya story even though he gives her a punishment he gives her a path of redemption that anyone wouldnt have got for a greatest deed-to be graced by Shree Ram himselfso in a way he does do "udhaar" for hera very logical but hatke take on the story where neither Ahilya as a woman/wife nor Gautam Rishi as a husband is put in bad lightunlike the interpretations that make either of the parties look badloved it😊
interesting post. I am sure some 'family anahilators' who kill their entire family think the same that they are doing their family a 'favor' by preventing all the hurt they would have to bear if they were alive.
As a husband, it was rishi guatam's duty to protect and honor his wife. he did neither and instead became lord and judge over both the culprit and the victim. and unfortunately to this day there are many ahiliyas and guatams living among us in our society who think that it is the woman's failure if she is raped or decieved and the husband has every right to punish that women so that she may be 'purified'...
I always felt it was the larger society which was to be blamed - that is what I wanted to bring out. Despite Ahilya being innocent / victim, despite Gautama knowing his wife's innocence / predicament, both of them suffered because of the social laws prevalent at that time.
