i think teji bachchan is a sikh. i remember him mentioning that in one of his interviews.

Amitabh is the elder son of Harivansh Rai Srivastava and Tej Suri Srivastav and they belong to Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Harivansh Rai was a professor of English in the Allahabad University. He was also a great poet. He was known as Bachchan- which means 'child' when he was little.And as his fame grew, he came to be known as Bachchan. His most famous poem - Madhushala - was published in the name of Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Amitabh's father is one of the greatest poets India has ever produced.

So Bachchan is an aquired name. They originally are Srivastav, a Kayasta caste of UP.He made this his official name when he received his doctorate degree in Cambridge.Bhojpuri is a widely spoken language in that belt as before independence it all came under the United province.That's how Amitabh is so fond and fluent in it.
