Is there any other character on television who has been betrayed by every single relationship he has ever held dear?
His father who left him for another family, and indirectly caused his mother's death.
His "massi" (St. Billo) who allowed his own to deceive and swindle him, allowed him to fall to pieces while thinking his wife had aborted his child out of spite. Without a thought she disowned him and threw him out of his own house, not once stopping to think that she should know "her son" better.
Pushkar, his protge and surrogate son whose entire future was "savaar"-ed by Jai, and who returned the favour by running off with his fianc on his wedding day, not caring how it would hurt his feelings and reputation.
Roshni, his fianc who chose her career over him and only came back to blackmail and torture him for a crime he had never committed.
Pia, a girl he loved despite her arrogance, and whose sisters he gave a home and jobs to, despite barely knowing them. I don't need to elaborate on her behaviour any further post-ONS do I?!!
Jigyasa, his sister he raised as a daughter who has done nothing but try and ensure he remains alone and in pain for the rest of his life. She has tried her level best to bankrupt him and blackmail him, and has only stopped short of actually murdering him because she is afraid of the consequences. I used to think maybe she did love her brother but just had a funny way of showing it – but that theory died a long time ago!!
Ranveer, he may be good now, but before Raashi he stopped at nothing to take Walia Industries into his own hands.
Sahil, who despite being a total nikamma and immature fool, was given both praise and responsibility by his mama. He supported him when he wanted to marry Rano and treated him like his own son. In return Sahil shamelessly blackmailed his uncle and even enjoyed doing so!
Aditya, while not doing anything negative, has also failed to do anything positive for months. Since his one attempt at finding out the truth about the ONS he has been pretty useless, and his inaction can also be seen to some extent, as a betrayal.
Tarun, almost the worst betrayal of all. This childhood friend today proved the adage "with friends like these who needs enemies". Despite hearing first-hand from Jai about the ONS he has made no attempt to find out the real truth. In fact, he is too busy propping Bani up, goading her to hate him. Is it too much to expect that your best friend might try and understand you? Or that they at least would not actively seek to destroy you without knowing the full truth of the matter? He knew the truth of the divorce saga from Bani – but he kept it hidden from Jai too. Who should he have been more loyal to? His best friend? Or a woman he met 5 minutes ago and barely knows at all?! His skunk-ish behaviour disgusts me almost as much as St. Billo's. (sorry Sangs, last time, I promise!!)
And then we come to Bani. I understand that she is hurt. I see why she wants to hate him, why she wants to throw him out of her heart and life. But what disappoints me is her expectation of faith from Jai, and her own lack of faith in him. She remembers the hateful words, she remembers the lies, but far outweighing all of that is the amount of times Jai told her he loved her, and that she was his soulmate. Far outweighing his apparent betrayal is his faith in her during the alimony saga, and the way he unquestioningly believed her and took her back on KC night in Dubai despite all the apparent reasons not to. Why didn't she remember that? Isn't that too a betrayal of sorts – even though it is the only one which I have some sympathy for?
A couple of weeks back Rano used a line for Bani which really made me feel sad for her. "Na aapko aapka suhaag raas aaya, nahi aapka khoon." (or something to that effect…)
It's heart-breaking to see that apply to Jai too. Because he has no-one by his side to help him through all of this.
Bani has Krishna on the way, someone to live for and a chance at finding happiness through him/her.
Jai doesn't even have that. 😭
