Chapter 12

Cookie, thank god. you are safe. you made it sweetheart. NK hugged her.

Arnav immediately stepped back seeing NK and Khushi together. Khushi eyes followed Arnav and didnt register what NK was saying.

NK then held her face in his palms and kissed her cheeks. Khushi looked at NK and tried to understand who he really is. She thought she knew that person very well enough for 8 years to leave all hers behind for this man and she thought he loved her. Then her eyes trailed to look at Arnav and then back to NK. A man whom she thought as her future didnt even a lay a step to save her but the man whom she thought as her past came from nowhere and saved her risking all his life. Why? that question started lingering in her mind aching her heart with disappointment at her love and new burden of paying back to her new relation.

The moment Arnav saw NK kissing her cheeks, Arnav immediately turned the other way unable to see her being touched by another man. He closed his eyes, gritted his teeth and fisted his palms as his heart shattered into million pieces. Khushi noticed his every move and confused expression crossed her features. She didnt understand why Arnav suddenly stood so far and the reason for the sudden change in his expressions. He seemed detached, disturbed and aloof.

Does he know NK before? Why does he always act different when it comes about NK? She discussed all their past encounters in her mind. Nothing made sense to her. NK kept talking something but her eyes were hooked on Arnav. She is noticing his every move. Then suddenly her head started aching and she held her forehead between her palms suppressing the pain. Her fingers touched the sindoor and thats when she remembered and realized that she is his wife and she is being touched by another man infront of him. Could that be the reason? She thought to herself and as if Arnav heard her question, he turned to her with his anger spitting reddened moist eyes. That cleared her doubt to an extent, but she is not sure because he never expressed himself along those lines; even if he did and she happened to miss out on those subtle gestures, he wouldnt have asked property from the girl he had special feelings on. She always heard people sacrifice in love but this man forced her into marriage. Her mind boggled up with confusion and too many questions. His feelings and his reaction towards her in the presence of NK started affecting her and she became more curious to know the reason behind it.

She felt the urge to talk to him totally ignoring NK's presence. When she tried to get up and walk upto Arnav, NK held her hands, Where are you going? Do you need something.

She nodded NO.

Sit here. You need to rest sometime.

She sat still observing Arnav while NK continued to talk to other men around.

Everyone in the room were talking to one and another but there were only 2 people Arnav and Khushi who were silent in each other's thoughts.

When Arnav heard Khushi crying for help, his heart raced rapidly and panicked if he is going to lose her. Then he remembered his parents death and how he took so many years to regroup himself post that ill-fate. He didnt wanna be in that state again as he knew he might just not be able to handle it yet another time the way he did last few years.

Arnav stood few feet away from Khushi and wondered,

Why she matters so much to him,

Why he is unable to see her being touched,

Why he is unable to see her heart beating for another man.

Khushi observed the troubled expression on his face as his brows contracted. Unable to wait any longer, she asked NK to get her some water and sent him away.

She walked to Arnav and stood next to him.

Arnav?

He turned around and looked at her. But he said nothing.

Napkin? She held her hand up in the air pointing his wet hair and asked him to dry himself.

He nodded no and said I am fine and then he turned sideways avoiding her questioning looks.

Are you OK? She asked worriedly.

I think I should be leaving now. He turned to leave.

Are you out of your mind? We just barely escaped from those waters.

I have managed so far. Aage bhi karloonga! [[I can manage further as well]]

She took step towards him and said, I know you will. If you cant, nobody will. She smiled at him but she didnt get any in return.

Is something bothering you?

He looked at her for a moment and wanted to tell her that YES but he answered coldly, Nothing I am fine.

Then why are you standing so aloof?

Now do I have to take your permission about how and where I should stand?

Dont talk like that. I am being polite here. You are angry! I can clearly see that!

Khushi, just go do your business and leave me alone.

She didnt give up. She stood infront facing him. Why do I feel that you are upset with something to do with me?

I have to go. I dont have time for this. He turned to go.

Arnav, you didnt answer my question.

Listen once for all. You mean nothing to me. So stop giving yourself so much importance.

Mean nothing to you. Then why did you save me risking your life?

Well you gave me the property and I dont burden myself keeping the favors. I just paid it back. He replied rudely hiding his inner torment.

That is it?... She asked as her eyes filled with tears. What? Is she expecting him to say something else. Yes probably.

As sure as it sounds. He started leaving when he was stopped by NK at the door.

Hey Arnav...

Before he continued Arnav interrupted him, Mr. Raizada!! He replied coldly

Oh sorry. Thanks man for rescuing Cookie. You just gave my life back! He extended his hand to Arnav.

Oh really? I never you knew you had one.

Arnav stormed out of the place before NK could react.

NK rushed to Khushi angrily, who is totally lost in her own thoughts about Arnav's behavior.

What kind of man is that Raizada? He is disgusting. I was thanking him and he started talking some rubbish.

She remained quiet. She didnt say anything.

Anyway, I dont wanna spoil my mood. Cookie, I have made arrangements. Lets go, mom and dad are waiting for us.

She nodded and said she will be back in few mins as she wanted to use restroom.

She went inside and locked herself and cried her heart out. She felt all choked up in her throat and hurt deeply as if someone is squeezing her heart out to bleed. She is unable to understand why she fell in love with this man. She cursed herself for betraying her parents for this man who doesnt even value her life.

Khushi is hurt and she couldnt trust NK anymore. To her, he betrayed her. She thought love is about giving up life if need be but he is coward. Did he really love me? She thought. And why does Arnav need to save me? She was battling herself with her perplexed emotions.

She looked herself in the mirror. She is still in her bridal wear, with her mangalsutra twinkling in the reflection and her sindoor is popping out radiantly under the yellow lights screaming Arnav Singh Raizada's name. She remembered how he held her close and kissed her on the forehead when she gained conscious. She checked herself one more time completely in the mirror. Every emotion, every facial feature and every gesture of hers emitted the signs of being wife of Arnav Singh Raizada and she didnt see NK anywhere in the whole picture to her own surprise..

After much thought, she decided what she needed to do. She washed her face and walked to NK.

Khushi withdrew her hand and called his name, NK!

You know its very funny NK, you said it many times but there is a man who just proved it without even saying a word. She spoke sarcastically controlling her tears and expressing her disappointment with him.

You dont deserve me NK. I was ready to leave everyone and everything for you. But you failed me. I am so glad for whatever happened tonight.

If you think about it NK, I spent more time with Arnav than with you. I and Arnav are always together since birth, in our parents dream and I have been with him for last 8 years though not personally but at least professionally I thought about him every few mins, and that is more than I thought about you. NK, I have nothing against you. I really had great moments with you. I dreamt about our future but at the same time I believe in the purpose of life. I would better spend the rest of my life with my friend who may not love me but can protect me with all his might than to live with someone like you who can ditch me any crisis moment in life.

Dont tell me these stupid stuff about that arrogant bas...

Watch out NK. Not a word about him. Its better we part ways on happy note. I dont think we are meant for each other. I wish you all the luck.

The phone lines in the area are dead. She ran on the dark watered streets of Mumbai wearing heavy lehenga and jewellery trying to find a phone booth. Everything is closed as it is past 11.30PM. She tried to remember Arnav's phone number but she couldnt as she never paid attention to it. She doesnt know where he lives nor the area. Someone on the road allowed her to make a call. She tried Payal and Akash number but the cell phone networks were down due to rain and all the phones were unreachable.

She finally gave up and called her dad Shashi on their landline. Shashi got furious and worried to hear his daughter's voice and immediately he called Arnav's number. But his phone was unreachable. Shashi took his car keys and along with Garima he rushed to pick up Khushi.

Khushi, what happened? Where is Arnav? And why are you standing alone here? Shashi threw himself out of his car questioning Khushi.

Papa I will tell you everything in the car. Please take me to Arnav.

I hope so. He went an hour back and I am not sure if he reached safely.

Reached matlab? Where were you? And why did he leave you alone? Garima panicked.

Both of you first get in the car. Its not too safe to discuss here.

They got into car and proceeded to Raizada Mansion.

Now tell me Khushi, what happened?

Khushi hugged her mother and broke down.

Amma please forgive me. I messed it up. I ruined my own life.

Papa, me and Arnav agreed to this marriage as an agreement only to leave each other on this same night.

What nonsense are you talking Khushi? Garima angered while Shashi looked at Khushi unable to digest the facts.

Amma I knew Arnav in the college itself. So when Papa refused NK and...

One sec Khushi. You and Arnav made agreement right? I will listen to your story in the presence of him not that I dont believe you. I just dont wanna hear one side story. Shashi shut her off furiously. Garima started weeping as her daughter's life ended before it even started.

Shashi parked the car. Khushi and Garima got out of the car and looked at the mansion. Its humongous. Her house is no where near the size of Raizada mansion, she thought. The entire building is lit with wedding lights but there is no sign of any light inside the building. She wondered if he is in there. She mentally prayed and hoped that he is inside. Shashi ringed the bell and the door was answered by Kaka. Kaka asked all three to wait in the living room and he went to call Arnav.

Khushi as she was about to enter, she waited outside for brief period and fazed about entering without Grihapravesh ritual. She didnt feel comfortable as she is taking new step in her life and didnt want anything going wrong in their already complicated lives. She mentally prayed and stepped her right foot in. As soon as she entered, she noticed the entire mansion smelled of sandalwood. She felt as if she stepped into a temple. She felt so warm and familiar with the place. The place is decorated with ceiling length paintings, and setup with modern furniture. She didnt find any family pictures on walls or side tables. She knew the reason and imagined how Arnav is living in a shell. She already started assessing his life style and his life.

The whole world around him is silent except one person's heartbeat that's beating rapidly a mile a minute. He felt as if someone took his heart out and churned it in the blender. Time and Time again, his fate is testing him. He had no hope or intention of being in relationship before meeting Khushi few days ago. He had little hope when he met Khushi for marriage but after what happened tonight, after seeing her slipped away to someone's arms, all he knew of love is how to live without it.

His anguish worsened from the moment he parted his ways from Khushi. The college memories with her started haunting him like curse for last one hour. He just dumped himself on the bed and laid with his eyes open staring at the dark ceiling for more than an hour now.

This day He is got everything he wanted in his life except that one touch that would melt his heart, heel his mental anguish, calm his senses, soothe his pain, and wipe his tears. Unknowingly he sought that comfort in Khushi.

Arnav babua? Kaka knocked on the door. Arnav ignored his knock.

Babua, Shashi ji and his family is here. Shall I ask them to wait?

Arnav sat up shocked hearing Shashi's name. Khushi? He said her name aloud.

Ask them to wait. I will be down in 5 mins. Arnav rushed to bathroom to freshen up.

Khushi started trembling nervously. She sat with her head lowered, heard the sound of boots approaching. She chinned up fidgeting with her dupatta. Tears started flowing the moment she spotted him. He too was shocked to see her as he descended the stairs. He came straight to Khushi and asked,

Khushi tum yahaan? [[Khushi, you here?]]

Khushi lowered her head and started sobbing. Shashi and Garima stood behind her and said,

Now tell us what was the agreement of your marriage?

Arnav looked at Khushi with shocked expression. He didnt expect his parents to know about it. She remained silent sobbing terribly. She couldnt speak anything as she felt extremely overwhelmed with the decisions she took in last few hours and she wanted to seek comfort in Arnav. But they got to do some serious explanation to her parents before even she can say anything to Arnav.

Khushi, I am asking you something. Why were you standing on the road? Why were you not with Arnav? And Arnav where were you? I thought you took the responsibility of my daughter? I need answers, right now. Shashi yelled at the couple.

Uncle, please settle down. I will explain everything.

Oh you both better come up with some explanation. Do you have any idea how I felt seeing my daughter standing alone in her wedding dress on those shady dark streets and people staring at her to eat her any moment? You will not have a clue. I need answers, right now.

Arnav mentally cursed, Dammit NK. I am going to screw your life, I swear. He fisted his palms.

Papa, I will explain. Khushi interfered wiping her tears. We know each other from the college. When I heard your proposal about marrying Arnav, I was angry and wanted to meet Arnav to request him to back off from the marriage so that I could...

Arnav interrupted her from saying further. He didnt want her to say anything about NK and break her parents trust. He took over and continued, I wasnt interested in the marriage because I have no feelings for Khushi and I dont think I can settle myself down in a stupid marriage. Because I just dont believe in that. I asked her to marry me so that I could get our joint property. And we decided to part on the same night without any strings attached. I left her where you found her. I wasnt sure where she was supposed to go because thats just none of my business. He lied blatantly. Khushi looked at him in shock. She didnt understand if she should be happy for covering up for her or sad that he confessed he has no feelings for her. Her vision became blurry as the tears flooded uncontrollably.

Shashi was shocked and collapsed on the couch unable to digest all these. Just an hour ago, he was happy that his daughter's life is settled with the so-called perfect man. In no time, he learns that his daughter's life is ruined for worse.

Garima approached Khushi and asked, Khushi, is he saying truth?

Khushi couldnt say a word. She cried uncontrollably. Arnav took her hand in his and squeezed it hinting her to speak up. She couldnt say anything but she just nodded in approval. Then followed a tight slap on Khushi's face by Garima.

Khushi lost control and slammed onto Arnav's chest when Garima slapped her. Arnav held her tight and looked at Garima angrily. When Khushi met his eyes with teary eyes, he couldnt look at her as guilt enveloped his mind.

He can lead his life the way he wants. He is not going to lose anything because he is man and men in our society dont lose anything in these matters. I dont understand why you accepted it. He needed property, makes sense. Why did you accept it? What were you planning to do after he leaves you like this? Speak up.

Khushi burried her face in her palms and admitted that she wanted to go away with NK.

Garima closed her mouth in shock and Shashi had nothing to speak as he felt he majorly failed as a father.

Shame on you Khushi. Never ever we thought YOU would do something like this. Garima started crying.

Shashi got up from his chair and walked upto Khushi. Chalo, lets go home. Khushi looked at Arnav immediately but Arnav didnt understand why she did that. He just watched silently as everything unfolded.

Shashi took Khushi hand and dragged her out. Arnav stood watching as he didnt understand why Khushi is here and where NK was as to what happened between her and NK. He looked at her confusedly as he noticed her reluctantly dragging her feet out. Khushi didnt take her eyes off Arnav and tried to say something and mentally prayed for his one word to stop her.

Uncle?

Shashi stopped.

I wanna speak to Khushi for a min.

Shashi angrily turned to face Arnav.

Why? do you need more properties? He mocked.

Arnav felt offended but tried to reason out. Listen, I know we did mistakes...

Mistake? You call this as mistake. You guys have done a sin. You insulted the beautiful bond Marriage. You know what, I gave you more importance all my life than I could to my daughter and you just failed me today terribly. I am more upset because it is you who cheated me more than my own daughter. I regret the day I called you as Son. I really thought you are Aran's son and you will be kind hearted and as compassionate as he was. But you failed your father. You betrayed my trust. If you had said one word that all you wanted is property and not my daughter, I would have given everything that I have. You are nothing but a shame to Raizada parivaar.

GET OUT! The last statement of Shashi ticked him off. According to him, Nobody has any right to say what he is in Raizada family.

Khushi looked at him with shocked expression. No Arnav please dont do this now. She mentally pleaded him but it was useless as he is already fired up.

He yelled again, I SAID EVERYBODY GET OUT.

Shashi felt insulted and dragged Khushi out while Khushi kept hoping that Arnav would stop her but he did not and he turned his back to her. She was not surprised.

Soon after they left, Arnav took the car keys and left his mansion for an unknown drive.

Khushi is heartbroken and she did not expect to hear such things from Arnav. She was hurt as she felt she is the reason to break Shashi and Arnav's bond. The drive back home was painful as her parents didnt speak nor her dad blamed her once. What have I done to my life? She questioned herself remembering her 8 years of life with NK and few days of life with Arnav. She saw the concern and pain in his eyes. She cant be wrong with that. She needs him more than he needs her and she decided to try her every possible way to be with him.

They arrived at Gupta house and the parents just walked inside without saying a word or turning back to Khushi. Khushi dragged herself inside as a dead person thinking about NK and Arnav.

What have I become Khushi? I was fine in my cruel world until you entered. You shouldnt have entered my life. He mentally spoke to himself and halted at the middle of the road, pressing the brakes hard making the screeching sound of tires. He remembered how fate played its games all the times he tried to be with her. He is disconcerted unable to understand what she was doing with her parents in his house and what happened to NK? One part of him urged him to find out just that and one part of him suggested him to mind his own business as his heart cant get too much involved with Khushi anymore and hurt himself again and again.

He realized he ignored Khushi in the whole fight with Shashi. He mentally cursed himself as his anger took over his ability to think rationally, which was much needed at that time. No matter what the reason might be behind Khushi's comeback, he decided to stay away from her and probably thought thats best for both of them.

That thought of separation kept bothering him for many days and hours now. He began to tremble inside and tears started rolling without any boundaries. He is quite perplexed unable to understand why his heart is weeping badly like never before over his misfortune.

What am I feeling? Why am I feeling this way? Why do I feel the urge to see her just once? What is wrong with me? Is this what I think it is? Is this love? Am I in love? He struggled mentally trying to seek answers.

He just wanted to burst out bawling like an overgrown baby. And he did. He collapsed on the concrete road on his knees and cried his heart out,

I love her alot Dad. I really do.

Oh! God :o What was that all? Well this Update was a shocker for me. Khushi will left NK that was sure coz NK was not the one for Khushi ji. Khushi did realize that Arnav loves her. Thank Khushi for noticing Arnav. You never payed heed to his any reaction. This was the 1st time you payed him some attention and got right conclusion.
Arnav still cared for her and warned NK to take care of her otherwise kuch huya naa toh dekh li fir!! Haan! ;)
Khushi took this perfect decision to left NK at last. But derr kyun ki yaar. Chalo use Chora toh sahi..!
NK serously didn't loved coz if he did atleat he should have stopped her or helped to go where ever she wants. Thats atleast can't be Love.
Khushi called her father for help. His reaction was justified. Anybody would be furious to see his daughter or newly wedded daughter in bridal dress alone standing on the road in a bad weather. Shocked would an understatement then. His reaction at Arnav's home was right too. I can understand.
Well whatever Shashi said that was according to Arnav's lie. Offcourse he took Arnav as his son, so he had right too.
Aww Both Arnav and Khushi wanted to seek solace in each other arms but destiny was cruel this time to both. They had to part their ways. Khushi wanted to stay with Arnav and he..
Story had taken a Big turn now. Let see what will happen next! :p

I'm elated for three reasons 😊 ………….. First for getting a spot on the 1^st page of the update, second for having the privilege of reading such an astounding update & lastly for getting to watch a mind blowing VM which enthralled my heart 🤗

Arnav retreating immediately on NK's appearance into the scene; Khushi perturbed on seeing his withdrawal & her mind not even registering NK's presence & she making a mental comparison of the man she loved & trusted, who left her without he himself saving her with her college pal, who risked his life to save the girl who left him right after the wedding on knowing about the perilous state she was in was an awesome start showcasing the puzzle which her mind was webbed in

Khushi attempting to decipher the reason behind his perplexed & agitated state & mentally analyzing what could be the possibilities for it & suddenly thinking if he loved her but shoving of that thought since a man in love would normally forgo things for his lady love & wouldn't demand property, he battling within himself striving for the answers as to why matters regarding her mattered to him & she trying to talk to Arnav about the problem bothering him but he not giving heeds to her queries & talking rudely to her brought out the chaos Arshi's mind was facing by trying to sought the reasons behind it

I loved the way Arnav spoke sarcastically to NK & authoritatively told him not to dare hurt her. Khushi's weeping at the restroom for having chosen a man who didn't save her in time of need & she observing herself which only reflected the signs of Mrs. ASR & not even a bit of NK showed how hurt she was because of NK & how slowly Arnav's deeds of saving her took a deep place in her heart

I was totally tensed & curios to know what would be Khushi's next move on coming out. Deeps u nailed the scene dear 👍🏼 …………. it was superb. I wanted to give her a hug for the convo with NK asking if he ever did love her & the part where she said that deeds are mightier than words & Arnav proved it all. She determined to live with her friend who'll go to any lengths to protect her even if he doesn't love her than with a gutless man was a great decision taken by her

Shashi startled on Khushi's call & confused why she was elsewhere rather than being with Arnav & her mom wishing to hear her reason only in the presence of Arnav showed how sensible they were will trying to analysis the sudden chaos rather than only concluding things by listening to one side of the story

Khushi having a ethereal feeling on entering the house considering it to be a temple & setting her right foot wanting to enter the house on an auspicious note really touched me

Arnav reminiscing his past as to how though he had everything but still his emptiness, his hurt & his pain could only be soothed by Khushi to be broken by Kaka's call, he surprised to know the Gupta's arrival at this hour to be further surprised by Khushi's presence at his house, followed by the queries shooted by the Gupta's, Arnav trying to cover up by taking the entire blame on him but Khushi coming out clean with her mistake of going with NK thereby earning the wrath of her parents & Arnav loosing his control & asking the Gupta's to get out was fabulously portrayed bringing out the anger of Shashi & Garima for Arshi's act

Shashi deeply affected by Arnav for breaking his trust & his statement of Arnav being a shame to the Raizada parivaar breaking Arnav's last string of control & making him reach the peak of his anger & blinded by it asking the Gupta's to get out without even realizing how much Shashi had helped him all these years ………….. it makes me wonder how Arnav will apologize to the Guptas for his extreme rude behavior & whether Shashi will forgive him & allow Khushi to live in RM as both Arnav & Khushi had made a mockery of the institution of marriage for their own benefits

"She needs him more than he needs her ……………to be with him"

This line proved how much Arnav's act of saving her today has brought a tremendous change in her life. Brilliant ……… this one line spoke it all 👏

Firstly Arnav who was broken after Khushi left with NK & now to be further shaken by Khushi's sudden return & his out burst with the Gupta's & he concluding to distance himself from her no matter what the reason was made me feel really sad for him. OMG!!! He's trying to stay away from her & I don't think the Gupta's will also want them to live together any time soon due to Arshi's mistakes ………… will Arshi ever meet? I think it will be Khushi who will be adamant to live with Arnav as she felt that she needs him more than he needs her

Deeps Arnav sobbing & craving to meet her just once, he figuring out that he was in love with her & he crying out to his father that he loved her a lot made me very emotional. The picture of Arnav crying melted my heart even more 😭

The first thing I did was to watch the VM, then only I read the update. The VM was mind blowing. It was so perfect & made me enjoy the update thoroughly. It was a visual treat 😊 While Arshi was thinking about their past, those scenes slightly dimmed created a beautiful effect. It just captivated my senses creating the effect. Arnav's picture in tears together with the last scene of the VM were Arnav cried made me emotional 😭 😭 😭

Today I was watching CSI NY Season 9 & when I heard Mac Taylor say "It's the events in our life that shapes us & it's our choices that define us" my mind immediately related this phrase to chapter 12 of Dawn

• Staying away from her soon after NK arrived ---- Made him more broken & also realize what she means to him i.e. he loves her

• Reminiscing the fateful event of the flood – Made her take the right decision of realizing the worth of Arnav & go back to him

How ironic "……..it's our choices that define us"

If Arnav had forced her to live with him after marriage, things would have worsened further. But his choice of letting her go & her choice of coming back to her savior is what is going to define their better lives
