Says actress Rubina Dilaik, who has quit her telly show

Actress Rubina Dilaik, who plays Divya Malhotra, the protagonist in chapter two ofPunarvivaah — Ek Nayi Umeed, has quit the show. Interestingly, a week after the show launched on May 20, Rubina realised that the focus had shifted to other characters. The result: Her track failed to develop as was promised. Says the actress, "The focus of the show kept shifting from one person to another. Maybe, it was an attempt to rake in more TRPs."

Rubina's track, it seems, was put on the backburner since the first week of July. When she brought it up with the production house, she was told that they will not be able to place her in the track for another two weeks.

"Even during the mahasangam episode, there was no mention of my character. The channel assured me that they will soon shift the focus back to me. That was okay because I had already waited for 15 days and could easily wait for two more weeks. But I was shocked when they told me that I could take up new offers. That made me think about the future of my track. It's wise to experiment with the storyline but in the process, you cannot make the lead sit at home for an indefinite period. The production house said they will inform me if my character will be re-introduced, depending on the ratings they get in August. Left with no other option, I asked them to terminate my contract. I have informed the channel about my decision."

However, there is no bad blood between the two parties. Says Rubina, "I will always wish the show well. I feel fortunate that the channel approached me for the role and it was great working with the production house. At times, things don't work out the way you expect."

Armu,
Thanks for the article. How is a show going to get ratings when they start playing with the lead character in the first week itself? In the first week, two days were mostly about PV1 and PV2 was just a prologue. In last three days of that first week, Divya was shown coming back to Bhopal but it was mostly her emotions about Raj and nothing much. The ratings is not a issue in the first week. So it seems that there was something more than ratings at play here.'

Thanks for sharing Tanu. Nothing to say. Dumbest PH I have ever seen who can't write a story for their lead character.

I feel this happens lot these days - actors are told a particular plot wen they are signing and then the show rapidly changes to like a saas-bahu drama wen the ratings aren't coming in. I tried this show out for a few weeks but I doubt I'll stick with it bc the CV's will prob keep changing it according to ratings-usually doesn't make for a good show.
